Ragini was not her usual self the coming days after her angry husband left for the big city.
Kaushalya observed her daughter-in-law upset and sad the whole day.
Ragini used to be always dolled up with her usual bindi and vermillion. She used to put coconut oil on her fragile lips to control the harshness of the chilly weather. She used to oil her long wavy hair with the herbal oil and moisturise her fragile skin with the special almond oil that Kaushalya made it for her
But nowadays Ragini was least bothered about anything.
The heavy rains halted the buses because of the road blocks, making most of the town people stuck in their homes. Even delaying the departure and arrival of residents from the city to the village.
Kaushalya did not like the way her Ragini was upset. She thought to call her son and make him talk to her. She was aware that some tiff must have happened between the husband and wife.
On top of it, the weather even managed to cut the power and frequency supply to the major part of the village, making it impossible for her to contact her son.
After few days, when the rain took a seat back. Kaushalya thought to clear the backyard of their house to wipe out the unwanted grass and plants growing out surrounding their house.
Ragini was blindly walking near the backyard talking with the workers and offering them water and snacks in between.
In the late afternoon, she was sitting near the porch of the backyard zoning out at nowhere. Her wavy hair were flowing with the wind which threatened to shower mother earth with thunder and lightning accompanied with heavy rains.
Kaushalya called out her daughter-in-law to take the dry clothes and move in before the rain starts.
Ragini felt her tears to flow again from her empty eyes searching for a certain someone.
Hiss! Hiss!
She scrunched her eyebrow at the sound which was quite near to her.
Her eyes widened at the sight of a big cobra threatened to bite her.
She froze in her state making her lips quiver in fear. Kaushalya screamed at the sight in front of her. She searched for a stick to drive away the vile creature from her precious daughter who was not moving from her stand.
Whoosh!
The snake went flying across the woods to never come back.
"Ragini! Ragini!" she heard the mild sound of the one person she was waiting for so long. She slowly looked up to the person and smiled with flowing tears.
"Swara!" The worried eyes smiled widely at her call and stretched his arms.
She climbed his waiting arms and cried her eyes out.
Swarag caressed her frizzy hair and hugged her tightly thanking the Gods to make him reach on time to save his Ragini.
After some time, he realised his position and backed her a little getting a disappointed look from her.
He got confused at her eyes which were sorrowful and wanting. He tried to wipe her tears but stopped at the wailing cry of his mother.
"Ragini! My child! Oh! thank God! You are safe! You scared me!" Kaushalya hugged and kissed the forehead of her scared daughter-in-law who was looking at her equally worried husband.
Kaushalya told the priest to offer a puja in the name of her daughter-in-law to waiver off the evil eye from her Ragini.
She cut the call and looked at the fragile state of her daughter-in-law who was making the tea for the workers.
Swarag asked his mother regarding the work that was proceeding in the house and shared his plan to build a fence covering the house for much safety. He was worried after seeing the frightened and pale state of his wife who looked more sad and weak from the time he had left for the city.
Kaushalya shaked her head and spoke
"My child, your wife needs more than just the safety from outside force. She needs the pampering of her loving husband too."
Swarag looked down sad at his mother's words.
"Tsk. Son, she was raised in a conservative family. She would not immediately accept your love just like that. Give her a little time. Have patience, she needs that. Moreover, she takes care of you so nicely and makes sure to make all your favourite dishes whenever you are at home,"
"She is just like a fragile flower. You need to understand that she has come from a very conservative family. Of course, she is studying in the university, but there are certain things which your professors can't teach you. You have to give her some time. You have to make her know that you will be her guardian, her saviour and her friend, before you become her love. Make her realise her love for you before you love her," Swarag understood the context of his knowledgeable mother who caressed his wavy hair.
Ragini wore her night dress and sat on her bed. She tried to sleep but would jolt up at the sudden glimpse of the snake in her dream.
Kaushalya heard a knock on her door. She climbed out of her bed and went to open the door to find her.
"Amma, can I sleep with you? I am getting scared alone in that big room," Kaushalya was shocked to hear the truthful words from Ragini's mouth.
Nevertheless, she bought her in and covered her body with the duvet.
Ragini hugged her mother-in-law and slept peacefully leaving a tensed mother.
Swarag came inside his room to find the bed empty. He searched the washroom and the balcony. He searched the entire house but found her nowhere.
He then went to his mother's room to find his wife sleeping peacefully in his mother's arm.
He felt so much regret for not understanding her. He wanted to calm her of the incident that had jolted her today.
He thought to follow the words of his mother and take care of her needs first before his.
For days, Ragini found solace in her mother-in-law than her moody husband. She was happy that he had returned safe and sound but sad that he was still angry at her.
Swarag tried many a times to talk to her, but he would be interrupted one or the other way.
Weather changed with a chilly breeze for torturing its occupants. It seems the rains had also taken a back seat to relax itself and its earthlings.
It was the time, when the villagers used to partake in the pilgrimage tour to various temples with its devotees.
Kaushalya packed her bags with tears in her eyes thinking about the fragile situation of her house and its occupants.
She wanted to mend the broken hearts but was failing again and again. So, she thought that God is her only saviour and planned a trip with the pilgrimage group of her ladies group.
The trio went to the temple to get their blessings for the safe trip of their beloved mother.
Ragini cried hugging her mother-in-law who shushed her caressing her wavy hair. She advised her to take care of her health and not be sad as she had to take care of their house alone for some days. Being the dutiful daughter-in-law, Ragini weakly nodded her head in agreement.
Swarag smiled at their bond which became stronger with time. He wanted someone special for his lonely mother who would always complain about not having a friend to share her thoughts.
Ragini was her companion who used to listen diligently to all her tall tales with so much interest and amusement with her weird comments of course.
Swarag hugged his mother who whispered something in his ears earning a surprised look from him.
Kaushalya smiled cunningly at him and caressed the soft cheeks of her Ragini.
Swarag looked back at his wife who wiped her tears clutching her shawls closer to her body.
He parked the car in the garage and moved inside the house with his mute wife.
Ragini went to her mother-in-law room to get the book that she had left for Ragini.
Few days back
"My child, promise me that you will read each and every line of this book every day without fail. Hm?" Kaushalya handed her the book that she had taken from the municipal library during her early marriage days.
"What is it, Amma?" Ragini tried to read the first page which got abruptly shut by her pouty lipped mother-in-law.
"Read it when you are alone," Kaushalya made her point to which Ragini just nodded her head in agreement.
Present day
Ragini laid on her tummy keeping the novel on her head level and started reading its content.
The next morning, she got up as usual and made the tiffin for her husband.
Swarag nodded his head to get at least a smile from her. But Ragini just waved her hand at him to get a chuckle from him.
In the afternoon, Ragini was pushing her legs up and down reading the book on her bed.
After the initial chapters, her eyes widened at the actuality of the storyline. Her mother-in-law gave her a romance novel which talked about young love and how their love blossomed from their childhood to their adolescent. She read it again and again to understand the context as it was in English which was not her first language.
She was wide mouthed at why would her mother-in-law give her such a book to read!
She kept the book away and prepared to make the arrangements for the evening, before her husband would arrive.
After completing her chores, Ragini went to her room to have a good night sleep. She saw a box kept on the bed with her name on it. She opened it to find a beautiful kurta set with a note which read
'A little something from me for my beautiful wife,
- Swarag'
Ragini clutched the dress softly to her heart and smiled at his sweet gesture.
So, almost every evening Ragini would get a surprise from her lovely husband with a sweet note attached to it.
Once she witnessed the most beautiful jasmine flowers wrapped in a leaf with a note written
'Hope these flower enhance your beauty more,
- Your Swarag'
She couldn't stop blushing at the way he had addressed himself at the end of the note.
Swarag saw that for few days, his lovely wife was glowing than usual, especially around him. She was happier and more relaxed which made him content that at least he would not have to see her sad face.
Even though they never exchanged actual words, there was always communication between them through beautiful gestures.
He was confused at her mood which used to change like the weather - unpredictable.
At night, he heard some water noises from the washroom. He assumed that his wife would be refreshing and went to work in his laptop.
Yes, Kaushalya took their promise to stay in Swarag's room from now on. Both being her lovable children agreed to her demands.

After some time, he heard some noises which was unfamiliar to him. He ignored them at first but then it increased. He went near the washroom door and tried to call his wife.
But got shocked to hear her moaning. He thought maybe she must be in trouble and went to bang the door open but stopped when she called out his name with a loud moan.
He huffed with a surprise and stopped his actions going closer to the door to listen to her clearly.
In the washroom, Ragini just loved the way the warm water showers were falling on her cold body. As she moved her slender hands over her neck – '...my love...so soft!...*groans*...'; she imagined his cupid kisses on her wet neck.
Her hands then went to caress her bosom caves – '...fresh flower!...is that you my love!...'; his soft peck on her upper bosoms.
She couldn't help but realise the built-up arousal with a luscious moan.
*moans*
She moaned more louder calling out his name with the most luscious sound he ever heard from her.
While, Swarag was feeling elated that his wife was enjoying herself calling out his name. He clutched the washroom door and put his head on it with tears in his eyes and a smile on his lips.
He whispered 'I love you' looking at the door.
But he felt like a pervert to hear her and backed a little to give her space.
He moved out of the room to avoid her lusty voice and calm himself.

The next morning, he watched his wife working normally with her usual mood.
He smiled at the scene that he had witnessed the previous night. He thought to tease her a little to just check her false anger.
"Um...Ragini, where you hurt last night?" Ragini hummed a 'no' keeping his breakfast on the table.
"Coz...um...I heard you cry," The spoon fell from her hands at his blunt words. She gulped to not sound obvious. So, she just ignored him and resumed her work saying that she was not crying and he must have misheard.
However, Swarag didn't give up. He spoke "But if you did not cry, then what was that sound?"
Ragini was trying hard to make some random excuses. So, she just bend down to pick the spoon.
He caught hold her hand which picked the spoon and spoke in a soft tone looking straight in her lovely eyes
"On second thoughts, it sounded more like moaning than a cry," He saw the soft sweat beads on her cheekbones which were sliding down her throat.
He left her hand and told her to get him the coffee to not make her more tensed. Ragini rushed to the kitchen to avoid his powerful gaze.
Swarag was happy to finally have the apt reaction from her.
