Chapter Seven - Water?! - Cole

A/N: IM SOOOO SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING!!!!!! THIS CHAPTER WASN'T REALLY EASY TO WRITE.. AND SUMMER MADE MY TIME LESSER ;-; (EVEN THO WE GET MORE TIME XD)

I'm leaving you, and the story alone now...

___________________________________________________

"Where am I?" I asked no one in particular, rubbing my head from whatever had caused it to throb so violently.

"Who are you?" A soft female voice asked from beside me. I looked next to me and found Myra, the shy and extremely quiet elemental master of Mirage. She was the quiet one (Not like what you think XD She's NOT Harumi!) we had tried to meet with. She looked at me, confused and scared.

"I'm Cole. Remember when we met at the airport?" I asked her, but she just seemed even more confused than before, "Just why are, I mean, where are we?"

"I-i don't know..." Was all Myra had to offer. Great... looks like I'll be looking for my friends and be dragging her around with me. I can't just leave her here! Now... to find some sort of-

"Good morning, Elemental Masters! Welcome to the Tournament of Elements - Wave 2!!" Chen's extremely annoying voice came on a hidden speaker of some sort. Where does he hide those things in a jungle? "You're goal for this Tournament is to be the last standing master in Chen's Jungle! Remember... Only ONE can remain! And Master Chen's Noodles are amazingly delicious!"

My first thought was, wow, what a creative name... Chen's Jungle... You really couldn't think of anything else?
And my second thought was, we have to go through this whole 'Only one can remain' thing again?! I was about to have a third thought when my whole train of thought crashed as the speaker came back on to announce what I dreaded to be the worst of all our circumstances.

"Also! I forgot to mention that Clousy Clouse was good enough to swap all of your elements! Have fun with your new powers!" Chen giddily delivered the news to us and what I assume to be everyone else.

"What?!" Myra and I said at the same time. We both looked at each other in shock and then down at our hands. We both reached deep within ourselves and let our elemental powers out on two unfortunate trees, but something went completely wrong. I formed a mirage of... cake. I just happened to be thinking of it when I looked over to see Myra as she shot several rocks at the tree's trunk.

She looked back at me in horror and immediately broke down crying. Myra collapsed to the ground right as I swooped in and caught her.

"Hey... What's wrong?! A-are you hurt?" I asked, concerned, still looking at her crying and confidentless face. She kept crying and didn't say anything. I worried about her, but I was also really curious about my teammates too. I'm the responsible one, no one gets hurt under my control. But I can't protect or save them when I'm not with them. And that bothered me.

"Um... You don't need to cry, everything will be alright." I tried to calm her down and get her attention. And suddenly it worked. She gave me a blank look and then snapped. Then she spat out all the anger and sadness in her body.

"Everything will be ALRIGHT? Do you think I'm some kind of Fairy?! I won't believe those lies! We're all gonna die here and you have the right to tell me that everything is going to be fine?! I know what happened at the first Tournament! You all were about to DIE! And this time, Chen made everything ten times harder for us!! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!" Myra shouted at me, pushing me back. She looked exhausted after ranting so much, but it didn't stop there.

"We need to pray to die in a good way! Don't you understand?! And don't even try to give me some motivational speech about how we're gonna make it out together!" She crawled away and layed down on the cold and dewy grass, crying... I know she's right. But that doesn't means we can't try...
Or does it??

I offered my hand to her. She saw it but didn't want to take it. She just looked at me curiously and furious.

"I know. We might die. But this doesn't means we can't try to survive." I reasoned with her. She looked up with puffy eyes that were all red and watery. My heart almost broke for her inside... She seemed to live a troubled life and hide behind her dark clothing and mirages.

I wished so much that I could help her, but there didn't seem to be anything I could really do for her at the moment since we were kinda stuck out in the middle of a jungle by ourselves and an almost impossible chance to survive.

"Oh... o-ok..." Myra hiccuped, still recovering from her fit. As that realization hit her, she scooted closer to me and snuggled into my arms and rested her head against my chest. I was... shocked by her bold actions. I guess all she really wanted was someone to be there for her and love her and help take care of her.

"Well, I uh think if we wanna survive out here, we should get moving." I said, slowly shrugging myself out of her arms and standing up, "We need to find a water resource and there might be some sort of fruit, nut, or vegetable growing around there for us to eat. Plus, we might be able to find some other people that had the same idea as us."

"Y-yeah... I guess you're right... But I can't swim! And I hate water!" Myra shivered and stood up slowly.

"Trust me, sweetheart. I hate water as much as you do... if not more..." I chuckled, not really amused, but trying to lighten up our situation nonetheless. She chuckled too. Well... I guess my tiny ballerina of an elemental master is feeling better already. Maybe I can get to know her better while we're out here... or at least try to figure how to control my new power.

Myra and I headed out on our trek through the jungle, occasionally stopping to listen for sounds of life or if Myra tripped over another root or some poor animal. I decided it was time to actually try to engage this silent girl in conversation and try to figure out my new element. I really hoped that I wouldn't be stuck with this for long...

"So, uh, when did you discover that you had an elemental power... of... what's it again?"

"I- um... I don't know..." Myra softly responded, so soft I could barely hear her.

"Wait, so you don't know when you found your elemental power?" I asked, shocked that she doesn't know. Just how do you not know you have a power and then just one day use it like you've known about it since forever?

"Well... I-uh don't want to talk about it." Myra said shortly. Then kind of made up for it by saying, "And it's Mirage... My- I mean, your elemental power..."

"Oh ok... Sorry to pry. So you can create Mirages of whatever you want?" I asked, a bit more interested now that we moved past her untouchable past. I swatted some flies and cobwebs out of the way as she spoke.

"Kind of... It's hard to get used to it. So I don't think you'll ever be able to control it." She answered me. Ouch... That was harsh...

"With time, anything is possible..." I said, trying to ignore the way she answered me.

"That's the problem. We don't have time..." She looked at me with a frown. She was right, again... We don't... Why does everything about her need to be filled with negativity?! I decided to not talk. She's always gonna find a way to make it depressing and negative. After a few minutes of walking, to the sound of water bubbling and splashing like a small brook, she actually managed to talk.

"So how am I gonna use your power?" Myra mumbled, softly again.

"Well, there are many ways you could use the element of Earth, but similar to what you said, it can be hard to master in a short amount of time." I countered.

"Oh... ok... nevermind then..." She sighed and I immediately regretted what I said. Do I really want to treat her the same as she did for me? Maybe she's like this because nobody was ever nice enough to show her how to be kind to others. Well, I won't be like those jerks...

"I- uh... I meant I can show you. If you want of course..." I mumbled, trying to apologize. She softened a bit.

"After breakfast, you can." She answered me. A ghost of a smile danced upon her lips.

When we finally got there, she quickly headed to the fruit trees next to the big graceful waterfall. Myra had said she was hungry but I was starving... Being a ghost doesn't means you won't need to eat.

I followed her as she already had some bananas and peaches in her hands and one in her mouth. She smiled and threw me some of her peaches.

We ate and sat down on the rocks above the waterfall. I didn't like to be near it, but if this is who my ally is going to be, then there's nothing to do but to sit next to her...

We munched on our peaches and shared one of the few ripe bananas that there were. It was actually quite serene and beautiful in oasis we had found next to the waterfall and river. All we could hear was the silent chewing on fruit and the bubbling of the water. I looked over at her as I ate my last banana. She was about to get done too.

"So Myra, will you show me how I'm gonna use your power or not?" I asked while she took another bite from her orange peach.

"Uh... sure." She stood up and threw the pit out, then beckoned me to stand up with her.

I stood up, stuffing peaches in my mouth.

"Now first, you want to hold your hands out in front of you... But focus, keep them steady and your mind clear. Just focus." Myra explained to me, holding her hands out in front of her as an example.

"Ok..." I held my hands out in front of me and tried to not choke on the peaches as I attempted to speak, "Now what...?"

"Now you concentrate on what you want to make. Mirage is difficult to master because you must always keep your mind open and clear of any outside thoughts." Myra continued. She sounded so much more... wise, knowledgeable, mature... and just overall more confident when she talked about her strength, Mirage.

I squinted and tried to focus on the task at hand (SOPH'S JOKE XD, Badum tsss... Get it? No...? Oh ok...). It was a bit difficult since I couldn't think straight and keeping my sanity was hard when my team was who knows where and knowing whether they were alive or not was nagging me constantly.

I centered in on the spot in front of my hands, just a small bush with some dirt around it, and I began to feel power slowly coursing through my veins and to my hands. I was beginning to get a headache and my eyes hurt from squinting so much, but I slowly began to see a form before me, glitching and barely visible. And she appeared...

My one and only mother... My father said she died when I was 3. I don't remember her clearly, I was so young. But she was right in front of me... Just like how she smiled in those pictures my father used to show me. She had wavy black hair and the same eye color I had. I took a hesitant step forward and whispered.

"M-mom...?" Then I started to run to her, tearing up a bit.

"Cole!" My mother said as she opened her arms to hug me. When I got there I couldn't stop myself and ran too far but... this made me run right through her... She was a ghost... I-I mean, a mirage... After a few seconds of hurt and confusion, I realized what happened.

"Cole..." Myra walked forward and placed her hand on my shoulder. I looked up because... I felt her hand... It didn't go right through me like everything usually does. I looked down, ashamed, red in the face, covering my eyes.

"T-this is just a mirage... She's not here." I said turning my head back to my mother. She just looked at me with those eyes I will never forget... Then poof! She was gone in an instant. The mirage was gone, but I had mastered the element... sorta...

"Look I-I lost my mother and father too... So I do understand what you feel. But... We need to move on. Everyone will pass, eventually." She said while she made me look at her. She was right. Everyone will pass... Maybe my friends already did... J-just thinking this made me fill with anger and an underlying sadness.

Chen will NOT kill them!! Any of them!!!

I will make sure of that. And even if he does, I will always try to save as many as I can.

"Th-thank you, Myra..." I slowly stood up, using Myra for support. That girl still had yet to fail in surprising me so much. I feel like there is so little I know about her, but I'm gaining her trust and respect the more I continue to be vulnerable to her and show her my true self, flaws and all.

"Time for you to teach me your element!" Myra smiled, giving me a great opportunity to focus on something else.

"Alright." I grinned, "Now first you want to get in tune with the Earth. This element is a lot more than throwing rocks and making mud pies."

I got a laugh out of her with that. Then we moved over to a muddier part, closer to the river. I was a little nervous about this, but I wanted to make sure her learning experience became better than mine.

"Now what?" She asked, curious, "Do I stick my hands in the mud now?" I couldn't help but laugh and shake my head "no".

"Not... quite... Ya see, it's like this." I took her hands in mine and brought them in contact with the mud.

"Wait, so I seriously have to stick my hands in the mud?!" She made a look of disgust and pulled her hands away from mine, tripping in the process. I laugh looking away from a moment and when I look up, she's partly in the river.

"Hey! Don't play in the river. This isn't bath time!" I tease, as I cautiously walk over to see if she's ok.

"Ha ha. Very funny, Cole! I can get up myself thank you very much..." Myra grinned and got up. By now we couldn't stop laughing at each other and I couldn't remember how long it had been since I had felt so... so... so

joyful.

Wiping the tears away that had come to my eyes when we were laughing, something caught my eye. My smile faded and I became alert once again.

"What's wrong, Cole?" Myra asked, not aware of what I had seen. I heard another rustling, coming from the foliage and greenery from across the river.

"Myra, get out of the water. Right now." I said as I looked around. There wasn't a weapon to use but I'm pretty sure they have a weapon to hunt us down.

"C-cole what's going on..?" she said as she quickly got out of the water and ran to me. I backed a bit knowing she was still wet but didn't drag my eyes away from that bush. She suddenly realized what was going on and got ready to fight.

"There's someone in there... right?" She whispered into my ear making me hum in agreement. There indeed was something but I don't think they're one of my team...

"Come out of that bush! We know you're there." I shouted as I was
thinking about how could I use my power against whoever it was. Heck, I didn't even know what powers they had!

Suddenly, I felt something on our back was about to strike. Myra also seemed like she was feeling that.

"Now!" I yelled as I used my spinjitzu. A man tumbled to the ground and dropped his weapon, what looked like a bamboo staff with an arrowhead attached to the top of it. Across the river, I could see a female figure dash through the bushes and raise her bow and arrow to strike Myra.

"No! Myra look out!"I yelled, fending off the boy who I now recognized as Jasper. A look of fear passed over Myra's face and time slowed for a second as Aravis loosed an arrow in the path of Myra. Her face changed from one of fear to surprise to determination, as my wispy partner clenched her fists and created several large rocks as she opened her hands. Then she shot them in Aravis' direction, smashing the arrow and pinning a shocked Aravis to the ground.

I shoved Jasper off of me and scooped Myra into my arms in celebration. She smiled and melted in my embrace. We didn't exchange any words, but it was enough just staying like that.

We reluctantly pulled away and as I did, my attention was again driven away from Myra and this time, to the sound of fast rushing water.

"C-Cole...?" Myra's lip trembled as we looked up the river and saw a wall of water fast approaching us. All I could do was stand there, frozen in fear. Then instinct kicked in and my body had only one goal, "RUN!!!"

And run we did. I grabbed Myra's hand, there was no time to be surprised it happened again, and we took off, leaving Jasper and Aravis in the dirt.

The water swelled near us and water soon began to reach at Myra's feet. She shrieked and we tried to escape the river's grasp. I thought we were in the clear when we began to reach the end of the river and the top of the waterfall, leading to a very long ways down to a sure death for me.

"I can't swim!" Myra cried out as we got to the edge of the cliff next to the waterfall.

"I can't either!" I shouted back over the roar and rushing of the waves. All I could do in that moment, was nothing.

I was helpless.

Brought to my knees and the end.

I hugged Myra, bringing her close. She wrapped her arms tightly around me.

My thoughts flashed to my Mom, then Dad, then Jay, Lloyd, Nya, Zane, Kai, Sensei... Myra.

I looked one more time at the water started to consume life around it, then buried my head into Myra as my world became dark...
