Waking up
Chara opened her eyes and looked around, she saw Temmie beside her, sleeping and she saw she wasn't in the snow. She was in a room, it was very warm and she had a fluffy blanket. She sat up and looked around the messy bedroom. And heard voices outside the room. "Papyrus, you really should look for humans more, the spike pit wasn't even checked," Sans said
"Master, the spike pit was checked just an hour ago, I'm sure it's fine," Papyrus said back
"An hour. THAT WAS AN HOUR AGO YOU USELESS BROTHER!" Sans said as Chara moved to the door, she knew not to open it, at least while Sans is around. Chara pressed her ear against the door, unknowingly to her, it caused the floor to make a sound under her weight. "We need to fix the floorboards, they're making sounds because of the wind now! Didn't I tell you to do that too!?! God, you useless brother, do something useful for once in your life!" Sans said, Chara dared not move but then she heard a door slam. She moved out of the doors way and went back to the bed. She laid down and saw the door open slightly and then all the way. She saw Papyrus there with an eerie smile on his face and his eye sockets were dark. He moved to her and just looked for a moment, a long moment. He took a strand of her hair in his hand and just stared. The more he didn't say anything the more she felt anxiety and a sick feeling in her stomach. He kept playing with her hair and he then put the strand behind her ear. He stood up and smiled sadisticly at her.
"I have to be useful, I have to be a better brother, you'll help me, right...?" Papyrus said, looking at her with dark eyes. Chara had fear fill her heart but she nodded. He smiled at her with tears in his eyes. Then he laughed quietly but then it turned into loud, insane laughter.
"What's going on?" Temmie said groggy having woken up and saw Papyrus summon his Gaster blasters.
"Have fun in heaven," he said before it shot them both, he saw Chara's soul split into two and Temmie turn into dust.
Papyrus felt no remorse but he did feel sadness. Only a twinge of it he smiled though. He was shaking but he laughed and cradled her face in his hands. He waited until the world reset. He knew resets all too well. That Temmie had the power before Chara fell down. He knew that either Chara or Temmie had been resetting. He looked at his two victims but then the world went white and he was back at Snowdin. He went to the giant door again and accepted Asgore's dare again. He waited the hours again and saw her again. This time she was less hurt but the clothes were burned a whole lot. He turned up the shock on his joy buzzer and went to her.
"H u m a n-" he was saying but Chara turned around and smiled at him and stuck out her hand. How she could smile at her murderer, he had no idea. But he gave her a big smile too and took her handshake. She was shocked and her breathing got heavy. She fell in the snow and saw Papyrus' shadow over her. Then the world reset. He did it a couple times, tried to kill her. She was an anomaly and he didn't understand anything that related to her, he didn't want to, so he decided to kill her. He was a coward, he was scared and he didn't want to deal with it. He was weak but that still didn't stop him and it didn't stop Chara from smiling at him and Temmie from cursing him each and every time. The next time he poisoned her food while they were at muffet's, his favorite restaurant. The spider woman had set out her food and Papyrus asked if she wanted ketchup or mustard or honey or powder and she nodded. He pointed to another table and she got up to get it. He then did the deed. Enough to kill her. He had gotten semi-attached but he still could kill her without remorse. Every time he did it though he would laugh it off, he would laugh quietly and then it would get so loud it would go on the brink of insanity. But he kept doing it and she kept smiling at him! Of all people! He wanted to, he could, he didn't know. He just felt nauseous every time she smiled at him, laughed with him. This time he did go to the door and he did take the dare but... His soul felt empty. He laid in the snow this time face down while he waited, in plain view of her. When she came out he heard the crunching of snow and then it stopped, only for a moment and then some whispered bickering and then more footsteps. He heard her kneel next to him and a hand on his back. She patted his back and shushed.
"There there, it's okay," she said and Papyrus made a noise, she laughed a little and continued comforting him. He didn't deserve it. He hated himself and she wouldn't leave him alone to his self loathing but at the same time he n e v e r w a n t e d her to leave him alone. At first he killed her to please his brother, to be a better brother, to help his brother, to actually mean something to him, then he did it to complete his dare, to not seem soft, for fun, then he did it for his sick experiment, to see if she was really the one controlling it. Eventually he started to hate himself, started to not care anymore. He killed her because he w a n t e d t o. For his own s i c k p l e a s u r e........Now here he is. Laying face down in the snow. Now he doesn't want her to leave Snowdin. He doesn't want her in Waterfall, where Alphys could get a hold of her. Or Hotland, where Undyne could do gruesome scientific research on her. Or Napstablook, who would kill her for entertainment, but he knew he didn't want her to die anymore. He had killed her hundreds of times. In different ways. Some of the ways she knew he had killed her, others she couldn't even see that it was him. Chara stood up with Temmie in her left arm. "Alright, get up," She said.
"Why? What's the point?" He asked, slightly muffled by the snow.
"Because I'm not gonna let you be like this, the point is that this is not okay, what happened anyway?" Chara asked and anger filled him, not at her but at himself, he stood up quickly and looked her dead in the eye.
"I killed you is what happened, I killed you thousands of times and you still treat me like I'm some kind of friend, I'm not your friend, I'd like to be but I'm not, I've killed you! You still smile for me! Why? I don't know, Chara, I am crazy, maybe the worst monster here, why don't you get that! You should hate me like your stupid pet does, I've hurt you because I wanted to! You're being stupid!" He said, nose to nose with concern and anger in his eyes and Chara saw the anger but couldn't see the other emotion. Chara was about to saw something but then Temmie screamed and Chara shushed her.
"Papyrus, you are my friend, and I'll do anything for you, don't hate yourself too much, I know what you are and honestly I don't care, I forgive you," Chara said and Papyrus teleported to the sentry station before she goes to face his brother one final time, she could handle his puzzles on her own. She must know it like the back of her hand now. He waited for hours but she eventually came by, granted more cuts and bruises than before. "So Sans is up ahead?" She asked him.
"Yeah," Papyrus said
"Thank you," she said and he was surprised but then sunk into his seat. He had a brief thought to take her home and just keep her there-
"Yeah, thank that sick bastard," Temmie said in her high pitched voice. -but he didn't.
"Temmie," Chara said in a warning voice. Of course if he was to go with that plan he'd have to deal with that little pet she has. He wanted to but he didn't, after all she'd eventually want to leave and he'd eventually need to stop her. He sunk further in his seat and put his hood of his black jacket over his head. Chara was long gone by now and he was greatful for that. He went to teleport to Undyne's lab. He knew the scientist kept cameras on the human, after all. He hoped she wasn't watching and sure enough she was.
"Oh, hello, Papyrus," she said, taking another bite of her ramen noodles and then came over to him. "Can I help you?" She said in a tired tone.
"Can I watch the human?" He said and she was surprised for a second. Then she paused.
"Well, yeah, but.. You know what, you have your own reasons," Undyne said and he sat down in front of the giant screen next to Undyne and saw the human fighting his brother, no sound was coming from the monitor. It showed his brother warning them of his next attack and then it coming. Papyrus sat there, helping her in little ways. If she was to miscalculate a jump he'd grab her soul with his magic and hover her until she was safely on the ground. If she were not to see something coming, he would grab a hold of her soul and move her himself. "What are you doing?" Undyne would ask and Papyrus would shrug lazily even though he'd known exactly what he was doing. Undyne would yell at him a few more times but then just crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. He saw her use the flirt option and face palmed. Why? His brother of all people. He laughed at her though. He kept doing what he started and she kept stalling for her life. Sans had gotten enraged at her flirting with him and yelled at her to go on a date with him and see just how much of a problem that is. He went back to Snowdin to wait for Chara and Papyrus saw this and smiled. He teleported to Chara before she moved another inch after thanking Undyne.
"Hey," Papyrus said leaving Chara to step back and put a hand over her heart, her heartbeat picked up, he noticed.
"Hi, Papy!" She exclaimed and he looked at her in surprise, Papy? When had she ever called him that, she noticed his expression and tugged at her hair with a brighter blush on her cheeks. Temmie was on the ground beside her, shaking her head. "Well, Papyrus was too long and I liked Papy more and-" he stopped her by putting a hand up.
"No, it's fine, just was new, is all," Papyrus said said he pulled down his hood so she could see him clearer. "Wanna go to Muffet's with me?" He asked and she smiled
"NO!" Temmie yelled in her pitched voice and Chara shook her head
"I'd love to, but your brother wants me to hang out with him right now," Chara said and Papyrus looked at her funny
"Like a date..?" Papyrus asked and Chara shook her head
"No, no, no, not a date, a play date more like, the dates are reserved for you," she said, winking and Papyrus' cheeks began to turn a dim orange and Temmie groaned.
"Chara, enough flirting, this is how you got in this situation with Sans!" Temmie said and Papyrus laughed
"So it is a date," Papyrus said, clearly amused and Chara crossed her arms.
"Fine, it is but what's it to you?" She said sticking out her tongue and Papyrus laughed again.
"Well, you better get goin, my brother loves punctuality," he winked at her and went to his brother. Getting to him before her. "You're on a date with the human, huh?" Papyrus said and Sans smiled
"Well, I don't exactly feel the same way she does about me but I hope that she sees that I'm not a person to date and move on to second best," Sans said and Papyrus put his hands in his pockets. They saw her come along with Temmie, smiling at them both. Papyrus waved lazily as Sans waved enthusiastically. "Human! We are having a date where I am at nearly all the time, my house! Come along!" Sans said as he ran inside. Papyrus followed and went up to his room to keep an eye on things from a distance. He heard her come into the house and the loud voice of his brother's as she went to explore the place. They went upstairs to Sans' room. He laughed at them both. He went downstairs and got some honey from the refrigerator to drink. He sat on the couch and heard them just talking upstairs and heard his brother talk about his standards and turn dating into a contest. He rolled his eyes and turned on the TV only to see the DJ, Napstabot and his very shy cousin, Hapstablook. Papyrus never really liked Napstabot, mostly for him possibly having a crush on Sans. Hapstablook had never really spoken to him, they'd always disappear when Papyrus was around, he probably didn't like him, either that or he liked him a lot. "Hey!" Papyrus heard and looked to the sound of the voice to see Temmie standing on two paws and crossing her little arms and Papyrus smirked at her.
"Hi, what's a little cute thing doing down here?" He said in a baby voice and Temmie looked offended and then glared at him.
"I'm down here because your jerk of a brother didn't want me interfering, now I'm stuck down here, and you came here and now it's more hell, I don't want to be stuck in a room with Chara's murderer," Temmie said harshly and Papyrus flinched at her words. Sure, he still was a phsycopath but he didn't hurt the girl anymore, at least not intentionally.
"You're a stupid girl," Papyrus said
"You're a disgusting stalker," Temmie shot back and Papyrus' eyes widened a little bit. "Like I didn't know you've been stalking us, you have something planned, something going on and I don't know right now but I'll find out, God help me, and I don't want you near Chara at all," Temmie finished and Papyrus' glare turned almost murderous.
"Fine, I'll stay away from the kid," Papyrus said with a smile and Temmie smiled too
"Thank you, I'm actually trying to protect her while you, I don't even know anymore but I have a damn good idea," Temmie said, turning and sitting on the floor. They sat in silence for a few moments before Chara came down and sat beside Papyrus and pulled Temmie in her lap.
"I heard you were having fun up there," Papyrus said and Chara shook her head laughing.
"That was the most awkward moment in my life, I'm glad that he didn't want to date me, Jesus Christ," Chara said and Papyrus nodded then he looked over to Temmie who crawled off of Chara's lap to go in the kitchen to get away from Papyrus. He smiled at his advantage.
"Hey, you wanna go to Muffet's and leave your pet behind? I'll lock the door behind me if you'd like," Papyrus said in a whisper
"While that is tempting I don't want to leave her without telling her where I am," Chara whispered back and Papyrus should have known, Temmie had been protective over Chara, playing the mom role better than most moms in the underground.
"C'mon, escape your momster for a while," Papyrus whispered and Chara laughed quietly at that, then she nodded. Papyrus stood up and took both of Chara's hands "Hold onto me if you need to, gonna warn you, I'd suggest it," Papyrus whispered in her ear and Chara
Hugged him tightly, grabbing onto the back of his jacket. Papyrus teleported to Muffet's with her and Chara felt dizzy, she stayed still with no intention to leave until the feeling subsidies. Finally, she let go of him and they walked in, smelling the sweet pastries and cider from inside. Her eyes lit up and Papyrus led her into an unoccupied booth. Muffet came over with a big smile on her face.
"Hello, dearie~ long time no see, and who is this?" She asked looking at Chara. This is the same thing that happened the first time, Papyrus thought, screaming at himself internally before introducing Chara. "Ahhuhuhu~ well, what would you like?" Muffet asked Chara and Chara thought for a moment.
"Can I have a spider doughnut?" She asked and Muffet looked to Papyrus
"I'll have the same thing," he said and the spider woman smiled before going behind the counter.
"Are you okay?" Chara asked and Papyrus stopped to look at her
"What do you mean?" Papyrus said before drinking a honey bottle that was already at the booth they were sat at.
"I mean, were you thinking of anything as Miss. Muffet was talking? Your eyes became just empty blackness as she spoke and you had a small frown," She said and Papyrus let out a breath.
"I suppose I was, but it's okay, just thinking how her dialogue hasn't changed from the first time we met her, anyways, enough of that, how do you feel about you're little heartbreak Sans gave you?" Papyrus said in a teasing tone and she reached across the booth to punch him in the arm and he laughed
"I am not heartbroken," Chara said and Papyrus put a hand over his heart, faking a disappointing look.
"You two were so cute together though," Papyrus said and Chara rolled her eyes and then their plates were there "Want any honey or powder, I heard ketchup and mustard aren't ideal things on doughnuts," he said I won't poison it this time either... He thought to himself and Chara reached for the powder but all its contents spilled on her doughnut. "Bummer, tell you what, you can have mine," Papyrus said giving it to her and she smiled.
"Thanks, Papyrus," She said, he noticed she dropped the nickname she had for him
"So, you gave up on your little nickname," Papyrus said and Chara smiled shyly.
"Well, Papy sounded like a name you would call your father or grandfather and I don't really think of you as either, so I dropped it, did you like it?" Chara asked and Papyrus shook his head.
"Tibia honest, I really didn't care either way, but if you didn't like it, don't call me it," Papyrus said and they kept talking while Chara ate and before long they went back, this time without teleporting and actually using the door.
