Puzzles
"Really?!" Chara's voice bounced off the walls from the Lilly pad puzzle and she had the hardest time finding the answer. She blushed in embarrassment at how obvious the answer was and crossed her arms in a pout but moved to the other side, nevertheless. Temmie was walking behind her and bumped into Chara as she stopped to pull out a ringing phone.
"This is Sans," Temmie heard Sans say through the phone. His voice sounded monotonous but Chara could hear just that tiny bit of care that showed through.
"Hi, Sans!" Chara said happily
"Whatever. So, what are you wearing?" Sans asked and Chara blushed at the question
"Pervert!" Temmie yelled into the phone and Sans' response came panicky.
"No, no, no! You've got it all wrong! See, I'm askin cause Alphys thought she saw a human wearing a pink tutu, are you wearing a pink tutu?" Sans asked and Chara laughed at Temmie's misunderstanding.
"Well, I'm not now but I was for a little bit, pink isn't really my color but it helps me when I need it!" Chara said and you could almost hear Sans roll his eyes.
"Alright, alright, so you aren't wearing one, got it, that's all I wanted you for, bye," Sans said as he hung up and Chara put the phone back in her pocket. They continued through the walkway and saw echo flowers. Her smile widened as she touched it to activate the flower.
Long ago, monsters used to whisper their wishes into the sky. If you hoped with all your heart, your wish would come true. Chara smiled as a warm feeling spread across her, this echo flowers' message was rather nice. Now, all we have are the sparkling stones on the ceiling. That made Chara a little sad. Why did the humans have to banish them. She bets these monsters wouldn't be so bad if the humans hadn't done that. Chara went ahead and went to the next flower.
Thousands of people wishing together can't be wrong! The queen will prove that... The tone of voice on the last line made Chara have an uneasy feeling settle in her gut but she kept moving.
C'mon, sister, you have to make a wish! She heard the next echo flower say and she smiled as she had always wanted a sibling, she just never got one. She preferably wanted a big brother, but she supposed it was too late for that. She moved to the next one.
I want me and my sister to see the real stars! That'd be good, then we wouldn't have to be stuck down here and maybe we could have our revenge... Judging by the voice, Chara assumed these were children.
Looks like my horoscope is the same as last weeks! Well of fucking course it is you looney bastard, what? Have you lost you mind down here? It's the same thing all the time! Chara heard from the last one in the room, maybe that one was not so nice. She continued to another room. She saw that they were standing on a big bridge as a pathway and she pointed to the plants sticking out of the water.
"Look, Temmie! Those are water sausages! I learned about those in a book!" Chara said as her eyes gleamed with excitement while she tried to touch one but was too far away. Temmie looked at her fondly, honestly, you'd never take her for an 18 year old. Chara eventually gave up on trying to get one and continued along the path to find wall signs. "The war of Humans and Monsters." Chara said out loud and turned to Temmie and Temmie offered a smile. Chara turned back and started to read the other sign.
"Why did the humans attack? Easy, the answer is fear. If not for fear, we would've lived in complete harmony. Granted, we looked scary, but it was all fine, we were just unknown to them. Fear of the unknown is what we guess. Humans are unbelievably strong. It would take the soul of nearly every monster just to equal the power of a single human soul," Chara continued to the next one.
"But humans have one weakness. Ironically, it is the strength of their soul. It is the power that allows it to persist outside the human body, even after death," Chara was surprised, before she had fallen, she had no idea if souls existed or not but now it was almost certain. She continued. "If a monster defeats a human, it can take its soul!!" Chara exclaimed as she whimpered a bit in fear and Temmie rubbed against her leg for comfort. Chara carried her into her arms and hugged her tightly as she read on. "A monster with a human soul... a horrible beast with unfathomable power," A frown engraved itself on Chara's face as she became frightened. Fear buried itself into her heart. They heard Temmie whispering things to them but it was all jumbled words to their over occupied mind. Almost as if her body worked on its own, she walked to the last sign and looked at it, seeing an illustration of a strange monster. An unsettling feeling made paranoia fresh in her soul and she turned to be met with nothing but an empty space. Chara held Temmie closer to her chest, almost like a stuffed animal to a frightened child.
"Chara, stop moving, I know that this has scared you a little," Temmie said, feeling the slight unevenness of her breathing. "You have to calm down before you continue, otherwise you won't be able to do your best when needed, how about we have a snack before we continue? It's been a while since we ate, hasn't it?" Temmie said, persuading Chara's fears to tone down and for the red eyed teen to focus on her. Chara smiled as she agreed with Temmie and she sat down as she let go of Temmie to search for some food in her inventory. She found a sticky bun and split it in half for Temmie, knowing full well that Temmie was small and didn't need as much. Temmie started to talk about other things to get Chara's mind away from the unnerving thoughts she had previously suffered from. Chara ate as Temmie told stories of happy times and even made some up for the sake of them. Chara picked up Temmie after they were done. She stuffed what they didn't eat back into her inventory. Chara walked forward and stepped onto a block thing that moved with her and she was taken aback at the surprising movement. She made it to the other side and looked longingly at the block as it moved back to the other side of the cliff, now she couldn't go back. She moved ahead and the light she had been blessed with earlier seemed to be behind her as she walked slowly, cautiously. Temmie had told her that this could be a perfect opportunity for a monster to jump her. A big hammer stopped her from moving along as she let out a scream and jumped back. She looked above to see the culprit was the Alphys character Sans had warned about. Chara ran without a second thought, holding Temmie close and she could almost feel those weapons hitting her as they came close to killing her. While the panicky feeling overwhelmed her, Temmie was a helpful eye to make sure she didn't run off the edge of the bridge. Alphys had finally landed a hit on her left shoulder and she screamed in pain.
"It's okay! You can do this! Just keep going!" Temmie said as she tried to heal her with her magic. Chara ran into the tall grass and didn't stop until the heavy clank of metal footsteps were so close that moving would be suicide. She tried to quiet down the pain filled whimpers and gasps when Alphys was so close that she could almost touch them. Alphys' arm went down dramatically as she picked someone up, but it wasn't Chara. A fluff of black hair and horns showed up from the top of the grass and Alphys lowered it back down and walked back. Chara sat there in shock while Temmie tried to heal her blood stained shoulder.
"Temmie, I appreciate the effort, but I don't think that it's going to help," Chara said and when Temmie gave her a confused look Chara decided to elaborate. "My shoulder... I think that it's broken, I don't think your magic is powerful enough to heal broken things, is it? I mean, all I've seen you do is scratches and bruises, not bones," Chara said and Temmie lowered her head, looking defeated. Chara picked Temmie up, much to Temmie's dismay, not wanting to hurt Chara further. She walked out the grass and saw none other than the goat teen from before.
"Woah, did you see that, Char?! Alphys just touched me! You're unlucky as fuck, dude, only if you were standing a little to the left!" Asriel said and Chara smiled at his antics and enthusiasm for his idol.
"Since when had we been on a nickname basis, Azzy?" Chara said, almost mockingly and Asriel laughed a little at this but slung an arm around her shoulders and scuffled her hair in an almost friendly way, save for his roughness.
"You're alright! I like you, freak! What do you say we hang out sometime? Just you and me?" Asriel asked and Chara laughed a little and said sure, goodheartedly. "Cool beans!"
"Hey, why were you even here anyways?" Chara asked and Asriel smiled, showing his fangs.
"Well, sometimes I go to places that are warm to fall asleep, and what do ya know? I wake up only to be met with the one and only Alphys! I think she focuses her attentions on you though, it looks like you're a rather popular monster! Everyone is talking about you!" The over excited teen rambled on and Chara's naturally rosy cheeks turned a bit more red. Everyone's attention was on her? That was a bit much... She was dragged back to reality when Asriel hit her on the back firmly. "Well, I'm gonna go ahead! I'll see ya around, Char!" He yelled as he ran off, waving back at her and Chara waved at him halfheartedly. Chara walked farther ahead with Temmie in her arms and made it to a save point.

Chara saved. Chara walked further and saw Papyrus waiting next to a telescope. She gazed at him curiously and, much to Temmie's protest, got closer to him. He grinned at her before speaking. "Hey, sunshine, I was thinking of getting into the telescope business, it's usually 500000000000G to use this telescope but for you, I'll let you use it for free, so what about it?" He said, leaning against the wall with a smile and mischievous glint in his eyes. Temmie didn't trust it but Chara obviously didn't think twice before letting Temmie down and looking through the device.
"Papyrus... I don't see anything, everything is red," Chara said and Papyrus mumbled a dark joke before he covered it with a cough and waited for her to finish looking. "Papyrus, the telescope doesn't work," Chara said as she looked at him straight in the eyes and rested a hand on her hip.
"What? Well, don't worry, you get a refund!" He said as he tried not to laugh at the mark left on her face.
"My god, I'm so done with you!" Chara said and Papyrus laughed
"No you're not!" Papyrus said and Chara rolled her eyes as she picked Temmie back up but before Chara got further Temmie pointed out the red mark on her face and didn't give Chara a chance to yell at the skeleton before she did. After they both got their full fill of yelling at the monster and getting him to clean it off, they continued until a turnip looking monster stopped her.
"What's a star?" It asked and Chara started to look for an answer before it continued. "Can you touch it? Can you eat it? Can you kill it? Are you a star?" It asked, each question dripping with bloodlust. Chara didn't have to stick around to know that it wanted her. Chara started to back away slowly in the opposite direction before it kept talking to her, following her. Simply, it wanted to have her. To do whatever it wanted. Chara felt a pang of fear in her heart as she tried to leave it behind but the more she sped up the more closely it followed. She found some echo flowers where she would've normally listen but she couldn't for fear of being touched by the monster behind her. Finally, she saw tall grass around the corner and bolted, praying that the monster wouldn't see her in the grass. She waited only a couple seconds before it passed her and she moved to get up but felt something underneath her hand. It was a pair of ballet slippers. She put them on with the tutu just to pretend to be a ballerina. Chara laughed as Temmie shook her head. Chara goes from scared for her life to playing dress up in a matter of seconds. Her phone rang and she picked it up.
"Hey, remember when I asked what you were wearing?" Sans' voice said on the other line. Impeccable timing, Chara must say. "Well, I told her you were wearing a pink Tutu, because you said you weren't so I'm throwing off her tracks! How's that for smart, huh?" Sans said with a proud voice and Chara had to hold back a groan. Well, Chara didn't view herself getting out of here alive anyways so she didn't change out of the Tutu and kept walking. She didn't stop to listen or read as she walked into a long path and fear struck her heart as a long tentacle emerged out of the water. She took quiet steps and tried to regulate her breathing, hoping that whatever was down there didn't hear her. Another tentacle came from the water but followed as she walked. Then emerged the face of the stranger with a very creepy smile.
"Hey, I'm Onionsan, Onionsan, you hear?" It said and Chara nodded quickly. She didn't want to be rude even if she was completely terrified. When it didn't say anything, she continued walking but it followed, making her a bit uncomfortable. "You're visiting waterfall, huh? It's great here, huh? You love it, huh? Yeah, me too, it's my favorite! Wouldn't you like to stay here forever?" She didn't want to answer that, thinking that he might kill her if she did, so she decided to continue walking. "The water's so shallow here, I have to sit down all the time but I'm sure you'd love it! Would you like to swim with me?"
"N-no thanks, I don't really want-"
"Of course you do!"
"No, really, I don't know how to swim!" A tentacle wrapped around her leg and pulled gently. "Please let go!"
"Can't you hang out for a while?"
"No!" Onionsan let go as a sting of pain came to his tentacle. Temmie had summoned her tem flakes and Chara saw this as a chance to run. She heard the monster call after her but didn't look back and instead moved forward, going further from the octopus like monster.
Since I didn't swap Shyren and Aaron on accident I'm just gonna keep them I unswapped, I'm sorry
Chara walked into the next room and saw a couple monsters, too wary to run into them. She carefully made her way to the northern corridor and surprisingly found a piano. "Hey, I used to play piano," Chara said to Temmie.
"Really? Why don't you play a song?"
"I learned the song Noel on piano,"
"Then play," Chara let her fingers fall on the correct keys and a smile etched her features. It was the only good memory from her past life, the life before the underground. It was a bit better here, surprisingly. Maybe she could stay? Even though some of the monsters beat the snot out of her, it was fine. She eventually continued, reading the signs. It had said that boss monsters have souls that persist after death and that a human can absorb it but it never happened. She saw a statue that was being rained on and some umbrellas. She smiled as she took an umbrella and let the statue have it, hearing a sweet melody afterwards. Temmie seemed to love the melody and even smiled a nostalgic smile, much to Chara's confusion. Out of respect for her friend's privacy, she let it be.
"Temmie, you seem to like it, would you mind if I play it on the piano?" Temmie paused for a moment. She looked touched before she smiled and nodded, giggling a bit. Chara experimented with the keys until she found the correct patterns for each. Once she had, a door opened in the rocks. "Temmie? Did you know about this?"
"No, we should look though,"
"Agreed," Chara said, curiosity and fear mixed together in her heart as she stepped through.
