Chapter 26: Castelia City's...
We all flew towards Castelia City, or teleported there in Lethe's case, along with a few members of Team Miasma who didn't have Pokémon to fly to the city. I took a deep breath as I looked straight ahead.
I just made a big mistake.
I shouldn't have done that. I should've made a different deal. At the moment, it was the only thing I could think of doing without getting killed. If I had tried to fly away, I know exactly what would've happened. All those grunts would've had their Pokémon come after me. Gila would fly on her Mandibuzz to make sure I didn't make it far.
We'd all die before anyone could blink an eye.
No matter what, I couldn't tell anyone. I wasn't sure if Gila would open her big mouth when she saw Rudi and the others, but for their safety, I hope she didn't. If they found out what I just did, I wouldn't hear the end of it.
They would make me feel worse than I already felt.
Then again, I wasn't even sure if I could face Rudi. There was a three-year period where we didn't see each other because I was away in Kalos for a year while he went missing for the remaining two. No one understood why, and while he told me the truth as to why he did that, I felt like I'd be stabbing him in the back for doing the same. Only, joining an evil band of bad guys may have been a bit worse.
Gila flew beside me on her Mandibuzz. "What's your plan on defeating Team Oblivion?"
I didn't look at her as I looked straight ahead to find Castelia City in the horizon. "I have to find my friends to see what their game plan is, and then I'll go from there."
The leader of Team Miasma huffed. "How are you so sure they'll be there?"
"Because it's Team Oblivion. They'll stop them before they do anything else."
"Sure Ruby isn't going to look for you," I heard Archer's voice asked.
For Arceus's sake, could that guy get anymore annoying? I turned my head to my left, seeing the two Krait Twins holding onto their Swoobats as they flew beside us. I didn't even know they had those Pokémon, making me wonder when they caught them. It didn't matter.
"It's Rudi," I growled, "and I know Rudi."
Gila giggled. "Do you know him though?"
Oh Deerling, I'd made a mistake in the deal I'd made, especially since I know I'll be dealing with Rudi's ex for a long time. I turned my head towards Gila, who wore a crooked smile. Whatever she was getting at, it couldn't have been good.
I nodded my head.
"But do you know-know him," Gila asked.
That was an odd question. I didn't answer her as I wasn't quite sure what she was getting at. Instead, I turned my head into her direction.
The leader of Team Miasma shook her head. "Arceus, you're dense."
"Am not!" I argued. "Besides, we shouldn't be worrying my relationship with Rudi when the world's at stake!"
"Of course, how could I forget?" she sarcastically asked as she rolled her eyes.
I groaned as the sky suddenly grew pitch black. The lights of Castelia City was all I could see, and thank Arceus we weren't even five minutes from there.
Just so I wouldn't hear anymore of Gila's taunts or anything from the Krait peanut gallery, I leaned in towards Swanna. Luckily, Swanna knew exactly what I meant and started to fly as fast as he could towards the city. Gila's and the Krait Twins' Pokémon weren't fast enough to catch up, which was a relief.
Before we made it into the city, I saw fire burning up the streets as civilians were running all over the place. My mouth dropped as I saw them engulfing some of the city in a fiery pit. However, due to flames lighting it up, I saw a man with blonde hair in a Braviary suit fighting alongside his Braviary right before my eyes.
Swanna didn't need to be told as he swooped down. I leapt off of him, landing right beside Rudi. He was too busy fighting a Team Oblivion grunt to even notice me, but that wasn't my main concern. The grunt had Rudi in a headlock, and Rudi was struggling to get out.
I didn't think as I turned around and punched the grunt square in the face. While there wasn't much force behind it, the grunt let go of Rudi as he stumbled back.
"Back off," I barked.
The grunt didn't need to be told twice as he ran away as fast as he could.
"Sylvia!" Rudi exclaimed in excitement. "What happened to your hair? I mean, it looks good, but—Arceus, I'm just glad you're okay."
I looked at him, seeing him smiling. Unfortunately, the scene didn't last long as another grunt tried tackling him from behind. Rudi was quick as he flipped the grunt over his shoulder. I turned around to make sure I didn't have to worry about the same thing, only to find two of them, twice the size of me, running in our direction.
"Not for long," I warned.
Rudi turned beside me readying his fists. I kneeled down, placing my one hand on the ground while the other clenched into a fist behind me. My eyes watched one thing, and that was the grunt running towards me.
Remember what Hilbert taught you. You're short. Use that. Don't let yourself think that your opponent's taller stance can take advantage of you. Use their height against them.
The grunt ran towards me, and I quickly moved out of the way leaving my foot out to trip the one. I was still on the ground, until I noticed the other grunt that was fighting Rudi. Seeing this, I bounced up to my feet and knocked the grunt right in the jawline.
"Sylvia, behind you!" Rudi warned as he kneed the grunt in a place I refuse to repeat out loud.
His warning was late as I felt something pin me to the ground, twisting my arms behind my back. I tried jerking my way out of there, but whoever was behind me was too big. When that didn't work, I tried kicking my leg back—seeing as this person had sat on my lower back—but again, that seemed to have done nothing.
I looked up, seeing Rudi in a fight of his own, though, I could tell he was trying to find some way to get me out of there. Unfortunately, three against one wasn't good odds for Rudi.
Where the third grunt came from, I have no idea, but the other two were the giant grunts from earlier.
"Arbok, Poison Sting. Serperior, use Bite!" A familiar voice called.
It caught Rudi off guard, but I watched as the Poison Sting attack flew over my head to hit two of the three grunts. In response, they ran away with tears in their eyes. With only one grunt to worry about, Rudi took the man by the shoulders and flipped him over.
Meanwhile, the person on my back fell to the side, screaming bloody murder. I quickly slithered my way out seeing the green serpent Pokémon biting the red-headed leader—who must've been the one to tackle me to the ground—on the head.
Behind me was none other than Gila, who smirked.
"Who would've thought we'd be on the same side," Gila commented.
I felt someone grab my shoulder, and when I looked back, I saw Rudi narrowing his eyes on the girl.
"How are you alive?" Rudi questioned.
I looked back at Gila, who rolled her eyes. "Wow, after I saved your ass, and that's how you repay me? Here I thought you'd be grateful seeing me again. After all, we did have a lot of fun together, or do I need to remind you?"
My boyfriend stiffened beside me, clearly afraid of what Gila could've said. I don't know why though. After all, I knew the two had dated before. There couldn't have been anything beyond that, right. I mean, Rudi told me what had happened. It was all a mistake.
They had just dated. Why Gila was directing her taunts towards him was strange, especially since those taunts could be directed my way.
"Rudi, chill, she's on our side," I said, before realizing what I had just said. I didn't have to look at him to see the confusion in his face, so I quickly covered up my mistake. "I mean, she's attacking the grunts and not us."
To prove my point, I heard the red-headed admin, Dusk, screaming on the top of her lungs. I turned to look at the scene, finding that Arbok decided to join in by wrapping itself around Dusk's body.
Before the two serpent Pokémon could finish the job, I averted my eyes back to Gila, who looked amused.
Please don't say it.
"When this is over, you're going straight to the police," Rudi snarled.
Please don't breath one word.
"Oh really," Gila glanced at me with mischievous smile.
Oh no, she's going to say it. Please don't say it.
"I wouldn't be too sure about that," Gila finished.
She didn't explain anything further than that as she glanced over towards her Pokémon that slithered to her side. I dared to look over to where Dusk was, seeing the red-headed Admin laying there on the ground. Her eyes were wide open as her face had turned to a deathly pale color. The bite mark on her neck along with her ripped clothing was enough to tell what had happened.
"We don't kill," I whispered, before looking at Gila. "Otherwise you're just like them!"
Gila giggled. "Whoops, sorry, but I play by my own rules. After all, this is only temporary, unlike other arrangements."
Before she could say anything else, Gila raised an eyebrow as her gaze wander away from Rudi and me, looking at something behind us. Rudi and I turned around just in time to see the their two admins standing there. Shadow juggled his Poké Ball in the air while Shade twisted the one off of her belt.
"I thought you were dead," Shadow growled.
"It's going to take a lot more than just that to get rid of me, Shadow," I claimed.
Shade laughed. "Oh, goodie! Then we can do so right now."
Rudi grabbed my hand. "Over my dead body."
Both of the leaders of Team Oblivion smiled as Shadow stopped juggling his Poké Ball. It was dark outside. I could barely make the two out, let alone details of their faces. While this Poké Ball was hidden in the darkness, I could discern the small bumps on it.
Something told me that whatever was inside that Poké Ball wasn't going to be good.
"We'll put that on the to-do list, fly-boy," Shadow said before he threw out his Poké Ball. "Yveltal, battle stance!"
The other leader giggled as she unclipped her Poké Ball and threw it out. "Medicham, let's destroy them."
My eyes widened as the two Pokémon burst out of their Poké Ball. Normally, I'd be looking at the Medicham, seeing that it was a Pokémon of a different color with beads around his head, but that didn't happen. Instead, I looked at the legendary beside it.
Yveltal, it was a Pokémon I've only heard of. Back in Kalos, there were three major legendaries, two of which were opposites, kind of like the ones here in Unova. While Zekrom was the Pokémon of ideals and Reshiram represented truth, Kalos had Xerneas, the Pokémon of life, and Yveltal, the Pokémon of destruction. Due to the destruction part, not many people talked about that legendary that much.
Seeing it in person made me realize why. Yes, I'd had countless nightmares of this Pokémon, but all I ever remembered was Yveltal's striking blue eyes that burned into my soul. The face burned into my mind, but seeing it in person was a different experience.
Rudi gave my hand a tight squeeze, making me realize he still had it. I turned to look at him, seeing him glaring towards the Pokémon.
"You took care of the legends last time," Rudi whispered. "Get yourself to safety, get help."
"You're not doing this alone," I argued as Braviary and Swanna both flew in front of us. "You'll die if you do this alone."
Rudi looked at me, and smirked. "I'm Braviary Man, I can't die."
I rolled my eyes. "Now's not the time to get cocky, Braviary Man."
"Yveltal!" I heard Shadow call, causing us to snap our attention to the real problem. "Use Focus Blast!"
"Medicham, Let's show them what true power looks like, and Mega Evolve!" yelled Shade.
I froze as I saw the blinding light from Medicham take over while Yveltal used its moves. If it wasn't for someone knocking me down to the ground, I would've been pummeled by the attack. Things went by so quickly, I didn't even call for Swanna to have a chance to dodge.
As my body hit the ground, with the weight of a person on top of me, I turned my head, watching as the light disappeared. A breath of relief escaped my lips as I saw Braviary in front of Swanna as a protective shield disappeared in front of them.
"Sylvia," I heard Rudi's voice say so only I could hear. "Because I love you, I need you to stay safe."
I looked up, realizing he had me pinned to the ground. He glanced at me for a second, but that was all that was needed for me to give him a quick nod. Rudi smiled as he got off of me as fast as he could to resume his fighting with the two remaining Team Oblivion leaders.
Meanwhile, Swanna flew towards me and deflected any attacks that came my way by using Protect. I stumbled on my feet and looked to see Yveltal shoot another attack towards Swanna and me, only, this time, it looked a lot more dangerous than any attack I'd ever seen. To prevent another death I quickly returned Swanna to his Poké Ball and dove out of the way. No one was going to die if I could prevent it.
The attack grew closer to me, but I leapt out of the way. When I looked back, I realized there was a chunk of the sidewalk I was on completely gone and burnt. I took a deep breath as I looked at Rudi giving his Braviary his command.
Rudi was right. He had this whole thing under control. While he gave a command to battle against the shiny Mega-Medicham, his free hand reached for a regular Poké Ball that was clipped onto his belt. A part of me wanted to help him, but I needed to get out of here and get more help. If we were going to win this, we would need more help destroying these two leaders.
As if to prove my point, Gila shoved me out of the way and yelled a couple of attacks for all three of her Pokémon to use. I growled, not wanting her to be the one to battle alongside Rudi, but like Rudi said, I had other things to do.
I ran as fast as I could out of the street we were on as I felt something follow me. Looking back, I saw the destruction Pokémon following me as fast as it could. Sweat coated my body as my breaths grew shorter. No, no, no, no.
This was just another one of my nightmares, wasn't it? I mean, I'd seen Yveltal many times in them, and seeing as Gila had teamed up beside Rudi after she forced me to become a member of Team Miasma...
That was the only option.
Which means there was only one way to wake up.
I turned around, and stood my ground. The air grew thin around me as the Pokémon powered up and attack. My eyes squeezed shut, waiting for the moment for them to open and face reality.
"Sylvia!" I heard someone scream.
The impact never came, but I didn't expect it to. Instead, I felt someone grab my wrist and yank me away. I turned, bumping into someone's chest. My eyes opened, seeing a brown eyed brunette wearing a red cap and a blue sweatshirt. Hilbert. He didn't look too happy as he pushed me away from him and threw out his Poké Ball, releasing an Emboar.
"Use Overheat, and fight him as long as you can!" The ex-Champion yelled before he pulled me away into the nearest alley.
Hilbert didn't hold onto my arm long, then again, he didn't need to as we took off in a dead sprint.
I should've woken up. Why wasn't this nightmare at an end? Things should've never have gotten this bad. Back at Team Oblivion's hideout, I realized that there were people that could've taken them down. Rudi, Rena, Hilbert, Hilda, heck, I was sure they could've gotten some novice trainers into the mix.
Though, maybe throwing newbies out into this line of work wouldn't be a good thing. Seeing as Yveltal was on the loose, things could've ended very badly. If someone would've gotten hurt, I would've blamed myself.
"What in the Distortion World were you thinking?" hissed Hilbert, as he looked at me with stormy eyes. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?
"This is a nightmare," I whispered. "I need to wake up. This isn't real. Yveltal is always in my nightmares."
Hilbert's eyes widened. "Sylvia! This is all real and you need to snap out of whatever fear you have and grow up."
"I have!" I argued as we ran. "What do you think I did as a child when my parents passed? Wallow in self-pity? No. I moved on. I was never a child. I was forced to grow up!"
"Then stop acting like a child!" Hilbert bellowed.
"You have no idea what I'm going through," I claimed.
"Because you're the only one with those damn nightmares. Tauros shit! I've seen Yveltal too. And you know what, the reason how I can tell this isn't a nightmare is because my Pokémon listen to me. In those nightmares, they don't do that. They attack me as well as if Team Plasma somehow controlled them just like they could with Hilda's Zekrom, merging it with Kyurem for the first time. So snap out of your daze and move on!" Hilbert lectured. "Cuz if Rudi's anything like me when it comes to Hilda, he'd have my head if that Pokémon gave you a scrape."
My eyes widened as I listened to Hilbert. I didn't think this guy could have a heart. Sounded ruthless of me to say, but this guy forced me through rigorous training that made me sore in an hour.
Apparently Hilbert seemed to notice as well as his eyes quickly widened before he glared in my direction. "If you tell a soul about that, you'll regret it."
I nodded my head, as we turned out of the alley way, finding Hilda and Rena in a battle against four grunts. Hilda had both her Serperior and her Fraxure out while Rena had Hydreigon and Golurk out. Both of them seemed to be on the losing side of things as their opponents Pokémon: a Swoobat, Liepard, and two Zoroarks.
Things weren't going well for them.
"Swanna, let's go!" I yelled.
"Reuniclus, Carracosta," Hilbert called, "I need your help!"
The three Pokémon popped out of their Poké Balls. I didn't even have to give a command as Swanna threw an Ice Beam attack at the opposing Pokémon while a green Pokémon that resembled a cell, Reuniclus, shot some sort of psychic attack as well. The blue Pokémon with a shell on its back, Carracosta, summoned some rocks at them.
Somehow, all three attacks missed Hilda and Rena's Pokémon, hitting their targets head on. If I had to guess, it was because the opponent Pokémon weren't prepared for these attacks which caused colossal damage the moment it hit.
Both Rena and Hilda looked back at us. As they did, I noticed Hilda's eyes brightening a bit when she saw Hilbert, but she didn't say a word about it.
I directed my attention behind them, noticing the only Pokémon that didn't faint was one of the Zoroark. Three of the four grunts were running away, but the fourth one decided to take this as an opportunity to send an attack.
If I let him, it might have been game over for one of Hilda's or Rena's Pokémon.
"Swanna use Protect!" I screamed.
My Pokémon flew in front of the attack that Zoroark threw. As that happened, Hilbert didn't waste a minute on sending his next attack to protect our friends.
"Carracosta, Hydro Pump now!" Hilbert yelled.
The blue Pokémon leapt into the air and threw his attack at lightning speed. That Zoroark didn't even know what hit her as the attack hit Zoroark on the side, feinting the Pokémon on sight. The remaining Grunt returned his Pokémon and glared at the four of us.
"Just so you know, our leaders will have you all die if you don't corporate," He said before he pulled something out of his pocket. "That is, if I don't do it first."
I walked towards Rena and Hilda, standing by their sides. Rena's eyes narrowed her eyes on that device, as if she was trying to figure out what it was. I was completely clueless as to what was hidden in his hand, but the man dramatically clashed his hands together on the small device for dramatic effect to set the thing off.
For a moment, I held my breath, waiting to see what would happen.
But nothing did.
"You all have five minutes until that Pokémon Center of yours blows up. Maybe less. Tick-tock," The grunt laughed.
My face paled as I realized what had to be done.
Author's Note:
It's question time! Yveltal has finally made its official appearance! Yay. So, what's your favorite legendary Pokémon? Kind of a though one if you ask me. Probably would have to go with Jirachi.
That's all for now. Hope you're all having a fantastic day!
