Chapter 10: Around the Wheel

A man walked back and forth in a small conference-like room as everyone stood back in terror, worried about what would happen next. He could care less what they thought of him at the moment. Right now, he was angry. All of his hard work was for nothing. All because someone had to butt on in and take everything from him.

Just who was this new superhero? Just months ago, they knew how to slow down Braviary Man, but to have another super running around Unova was a major set back. If things didn't get fixed soon, he would have to step in himself, and the man didn't want that. He'd rather sit back and have his workers do all the work. After all, that's how things should've worked being as he was the leader of the organization.

He looked back at the four members who had took a seat at the table in front of him. The one sitting to the far right of the table was Lantana. As the man looked at her, he realized it was any mission she was on that had failed miserably. Upon realizing this, the man's blood boiled even more.

He slammed his fist on the table in front of her and glared into her purple eyes. "Answers, now!"

Lantana flinched as her eyes widened in terror. The man didn't back away. Instead, he just glared at her, waiting for an answer, growing a bit impatient every second she wasted not saying a single word.

"Sir, the girl had a mere Ducklett. There was no way I was going to let her think she could play superhero without feeling pain," Lantana explained. "I didn't know she was going to be so strong."

Unimpressed with her answer, the man bellowed. "Excuses!" Everyone flinched in response. "How dare you underestimate a mere child! Look at Gila! She's nineteen, and no one has stepped foot in Opelucid."

The nineteen year-old tossed her long blonde hair over her shoulder as she smirked at Lantana. Out of all the members in Team Miasma, she was the one who has never failed a single mission. It was actually her idea on splitting up, attacking at two different places to distract Braviary Man while they looked around Nacrene City. There was a rumor that there was an important piece to their plan.

Of course, it failed all because Gila didn't lead it. That was what the leader of Team Miasma thought as he glared at the admin who failed him. If Gila could've lead it, this mission wouldn't have been for nothing.

"But sir—" Lantana argued.

"No!" the man glared at her. He had enough of her failure and excuses. "You're done. Go. I will not have failure on this team."

Lantana was shock. She shook her head as the tears started to sting in her eyes. "You have no idea what you're doing."

"I believe I do," the man said, as he pushed himself off the table and straighten up. He watched as the girl's widened in terror. Regardless how he felt, he snapped his fingers, causing two of the grunts to walk away from where they stood behind the admins.

"No, no!" Lantana screamed as the two grunts pulled her out of the chair. She jerked and tried escaping from their grasps. The admin just wasn't strong enough.

Everyone watched as she was escorted out of the room, scared as to wonder who was next.

The leader of Team Miasma turned to see the other two admins of Team Miasma: the Krait twins. They didn't have much of a brain, but at least they've yet to upset the man. He smiled as he noticed how nervous everyone was getting. For him, the tension was soothing.

Maybe seeing their fellow admin being kicked out should give them the motivation they need, the leader of Team Miasma thought.

"In the meantime, I need answers of who this Swanna Girl is," he explained to the Krait twins. "Do whatever it takes to get her out of the picture.

The twins smiled, as their unusual eyes gleamed in excitement.

(-o-)

Rudi held my hand as we walked around the City. I wanted to do otherwise, but seeing that there were hundreds of people that filled the street, I was kind of afraid I'd lose him in the crowd. My free hand held the strap of my brown bag, which hid my Swanna suit, some potions, berries, medical equipment, and Swanna's Poké Ball inside. Rudi has his stuff in a backpack, but like before, he had his hoodie over his hat to hide his eyes.

I was surprised I didn't have to do that. Then again, I guess I did have glasses I always wore. Guess no one would suspect a girl wearing glasses to be a superhero. Which made me wonder why Rudi didn't try that in the first place?

"Guess I got my part of the bargain," Rudi commented as we walked out of Litwick Diner and towards this new stand selling Castelia Cones. His eyes lingered on them for a moment, before his face dropped and continued to trudge along. It was ten in the morning. I think it was a bit too early for Castelia Cones, but knowing Rudi, I wouldn't be surprised.

My head turned as I saw a huge music hall with musicians playing their music to try and lure people inside. Each and every one of them wore a ridiculous outfit, whether it was standing on stilts, or wearing a gigantic red nose. With what they were doing, they caught the eye of many Trainers, who stopped what they were doing to watch the mini performance outside.

A part of me wanted to go inside as I remembered Nurse Joy talking to me about the Music Hall one time. I didn't understand why it was so special, but seeing the performers, I was a bit curious.

That was until I noticed a man in a suspicious looking sweatshirt run inside. My eyes widened. A dark sweatshirt, sweatpants that looked a bit too big, these were clothing that a grunt from Team Miasma would wear. I was about ready to let Rudi know about it when something started ringing.

I turned to look at Rudi as he pulled out a cell phone. Apparently, him and his sister communicated through this as she invented something inside that would allow no one to hear either part of the conversation. She must've liked inventing, which is how she helped Rudi out during his missions.

Rudi held the phone to his ear and started talking. All I could see was his mouth move and his eyes filling up with concern as he did so.

"Looks like our date will have to be cut short," Rudi solemnly said, as he threw the phone in his pocket.

"Date?" I asked. "Since when was this a date?"

Rudi ignored me as he pulled me away from the Music Hall. Whatever his sister said on the other side of the phone, it was starting to scare me a bit. I didn't ask questions as I was dragged over towards the Ferris Wheel. We didn't even have to wait in line as we walked straight to the front.

The man working the Ferris wheel smiled as he opened the door to the car. Carefully, Rudi and I stepped in, but the minutes I did, I felt my whole body shaking uncontrollably. I watched as the man working the Ferris wheel closed the door, and with that, my eyes widened. The man raised and eyebrow.

"You're not afraid of heights are you?" he asked.

"No," I answered honestly.

Yet, to say I wasn't afraid would be a lie. I was afraid, and I'm not sure why. My hands rubbed up and down my legs, as I looked at the area in front of me.

"Suit yourself," the man said as he pulls the lever.

We were lifted up in the air, and I could feel my breath growing shorter. Why? Why was I so afraid all of a sudden? I looked around, seeing the walls closing in on me. There wasn't much room. The glass windows trapped us inside, not letting us have any room for escape.

I could feel my body shaking. My vision blacked out a couple of times.

Nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

Don't scream, or we'll make sure this Pokémon center goes up in flames.

Gengar Use—

"Sylvia," Rudi grabbed my arm, causing me jump and snap my eyes up at him. "Sylvia, don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you. I got you."

I shook my head. I don't know what went over me, but I wrapped my arms around him, burying my head into his shoulders. Rudi didn't react right away, but he slowly wrapped his one arm around me.

"Don't worry, they're not coming, not today," he whispered. "I won't let them hurt you again."

My sobs softened, but my shaking didn't cease. I was afraid. What if I was too weak to stop them? What would I do if we didn't stop them in time?

"Sylvia," Rudi softly said, "I got you. I'm here for you. What wrong?"

I didn't look up at him. My head hid in his shoulder while my arms wrapped around him. If I let go, I would be alone, wouldn't I?

To think there was a time I was fearless. Now, I couldn't sleep without nightmares or ride a Ferris wheel without shaking.

It wasn't until then I realized that while I told them what happened, I didn't ever show my fear afterwards. The door to the room I stayed in was always opened. Swanna always stayed outside her Poké Ball. If there was anything I could do to feel safe, I would.

Now, I was suspended in a tiny Ferris wheel car, feeling the walls creeping in.

"You don't have to say anything if you don't want to," Rudi offered as he just pulled my closer to comfort me. "If I'd known you were apprehensive about coming--"

"It's...it's not that," I finally said, "I--I just...the walls are coming close, and I--I heard his voice. The man from the Pokémon Center...like he's here."

"Shh, don't get yourself worked up," he softly told me, "We'll stop Team Miasma. Then no one will have to worry about Team Miasma again, I promise. I promise I won't let anyone of them hurt you either."

I forced myself to look up at him. His eyes had so much assurance in them. When he noticed me looking at him, a smile crossed his face. It wasn't his cocky, know-it-all smile. This one was genuine, one I knew he really meant every word.

Seeing his smile, I felt my body relax. All I did was stare into his navy blue eyes. I just had to concentrate on one thing, and I wouldn't be afraid. That's what I told myself at least. Rudi closed his eyes and pulled closer. I could tell he wasn't going to force himself on me if he didn't want to. Somehow, after getting to know him these past few weeks, I've learned a few things about the guy that was a bit surprising.

If I wanted to, I could stay where I was at and not go in, but there was something different. Rudi promised to keep me safe, just like he was doing his best to keep Unova safe. He was genuine about that fact too. Despite wanting to deny it, I couldn't deny the feelings I was somewhat starting to develop.

A few days ago, I wouldn't have done it, but I closed my eyes as well. My heart started to flutter, beating 10 times faster than it did a moment ago. Was this really happening? Were we really doing this?

Our lips were close when the Ferris wheel jerked. Rudi wrapped his arms around me, as we looked around. That fear that went away suddenly came back as I could feel my heart pounding and sweat pouring down. We were stuck at the top of the Ferris wheel. I looked down, my eyes widening at the sight I saw.

Team Miasma was here. People screamed as they ran. Two of the grunts were tying up the man working the Ferris wheel, while a man in all black and a Duskull mask took over.

"We need to get out of here," I said, opening my bag and pulling out Swanna's Poké Ball.

"Already ahead of you," Rudi said.

I looked over, seeing him already in costume. My eyes widened. How'd he get ready so fast? More importantly, what was going on? I didn't have time to ask as he took his elbow and broke the glass case of the cart open. My eyes widened. Didn't he know that he would need stitches for that stunt?

He didn't have time to be ridiculed though. The boy tossed out his Braviary and hopped on the Pokémon's back, and offered his hand. I didn't think twice, grabbing on to it. Rudi, or I guess more appropriately, Braviary Man, pulled me onto the Pokémon's back and flew to the closest building. It was abandon and just outside the city limits.

Perfect place for me to change and help out.

I watched as he flew back. When he was gone, I realized I needed to go back there to help. I turned around and ran inside the building to suit up. My bag tucked under my cloak as I tucked my glasses away and threw on the mask, knowing I'd be blind as soon as I did it.

Only, I wasn't. My vision was fine the moment I tied the mask around my face. Making sure I wasn't going crazy, I took it off, not seeing the objects that laid far away. Somehow, someone had to have inserted some lenses in here, or something.

With my mask on and perfect vision, I sent Swanna out. One look at me, the Pokémon nodded her head, flapping her wings. I grabbed onto her leg as we flew straight into the city.

Civilians ran in every direction as I landed beside Musical Theater Hall I was admiring earlier. I looked around. We needed to find somewhere besides the Ferris Wheel to help out. Rudi had that section taken care of as he was battling the man who was causing the chaos beside the Ferris wheel. I just needed to help somewhere else.

"Where do you think you're going?" a voice mocked from behind.

Slowly, I turned around, seeing the Team Miasma grunt from before. I don't know how I knew, but I did. I took a deep breath.

"Stopping you," I fought back.

"Too bad you can't do that," the grunt said. "Between the weak subway bosses running themselves thin at the theatre and the subway battle arena, and Braviary Man trying to stop the admin, there's no way they'd all be able to make it."

"That why I'm here," I argued.

The grunt rolled his eyes. "Nothing I can do to stop you, but a word of advice. The music hall doesn't attract nearly as much as the Battle Station. I'd hurry if I were you."

It took me a moment to understand what he was saying.

Then it hit me. My eyes widened when I realized it.

Author's Note:

More action, more romance, and we are already 1/3 of the way through the story. So weird to think about it, but weirder to think this story has hit over 190 views! And that number just keeps going up the more I look at it. I didn't think my story would reach so many views so fast! Wow! Thank you, everyone, for just reading this story. Special thanks to Your_Last_Word and TheRisingFlame  for voting, commenting, and all the support!

So here's something I kind of want to know. Who has been your favorite character so far and why? And yes, it can be a Pokémon if you wanted it to be. Please share your thoughts as I love reading this section. Thanks guys!
