Chapter 5

In the following days, Susu's presence was known throughout the Zhu troop. Everyone had been stunned since it was an unwritten law that allowed no female can enter in the Zhu Camp Field. Susu hadn't realized that she was the exception. No soldiers, of course, dared to say anything since Commander Zhu himself announced that everyone was to treat Miss Lei as an honored guest.

"What do you think of my grandson?"

Susu was sitting beside Commander Zhu while they observed the spar match in the middle of the field. For hours now, Susu watched the boy in dark blue and white robe casually sparring with men twice as old and three times his weight and size. It had amazed Susu to see how the boy a few years older than her could overwhelm his sparring partners.

"Zhu gongzi is strong"

"How long do you think you'll last if you were to spar with him?"

Susu look at the old man sitting beside her. Through his playful smile, she understood that he wanted to see her strength.

"Susu can only take 10 moves..." Susu answered honestly.

"Is that so?" The old man chuckled before he spoke out to the field. "Stop"

Immediately, the match stopped and everyone went back to position within seconds of their Commander's command.

"Cang, Susu will be your sparring opponent"

Everyone on the field could not control their surprised expression.

"Go on Susu"

Susu stood from her seat and quietly went onto the field.

"Stop playing around old man" Zhu Cang voice was calm but his eyes were colder than ice.

Susu knew Zhu Cang was not happy to spar with her. Any boy would not be happy to fight with a little girl. There was no honor in that.

"Don't underestimate your opponent Cang" The Commander smirked while he lazily leaned his cheek on his fist.

Susu watched as Zhu Cang silently looked at his grandfather. The grandfather and grandson pair was have a silent battle of the minds.

"Zhu gongzi, please" Susu didn't want to waste anyone time.

Bowing her head toward Zhu Cang, she let him know she was ready whenever he was.

When Zhu Cang turned to face her, she again noticed how stunning his eyes were. It was amazing to see a hue of purple reflected from those eyes.

"You're not my opponent"

Zhu Cang wasn't looking down on her. There was no arrogance in his tone either. He simply knew he was stronger than her. Susu didn't take any offense to his statement.

"Zhu gongzi is stronger than Susu... But to indulge the Commander request, please spar with Susu"

Again, she gave a polite bow before she made her first move. She was taught never to underestimate her opponent - especially to those stronger than her. Using her purple thread, she aimed for Zhu Cang's neck.

Cang was startled for a split second before he dodged the thread. Just like that, the sparring begins. The field was in complete silence while everyone watched Susu fought one-on-one with Cang. Every soldier knew how strong Zhu Cang was. After all, many - if not all, were defeated by the young boy. So to see a little girl able to spar well with the demon shocked many of them.

But just as Susu had told the Commander, after Zhu Cang used his 10th move, he knocked her to the ground. What's startled Cang was that Susu had forced him to move by attacking his vital point. It had been an unconscious self preservation on his end to use such a brutal move. Shaken by the sight of the little girl on the ground and coughing up blood, Cang stood frozen with angry eyes. No one dared to make a sound and watched in awe when Susu slowly got up while wiping the blood from her lips. Even the best men had let out a painful cry when they received the young demon attack, but Susu didn't cry. She got back up with her usual calm and quiet expression.

"Zhu gongzi is indeed strong..." Susu said softly as she bowed respectfully. "Susu admits her defeat"

"If you know you're weak, why fight?"

Susu was surprised by Zhu Cang's anger. The boy dark eyes glared at her - not mocking, but scolding her for going beyond her limits.

"If you want to die, go die somewhere else" Zhu Cang said coldly before he turned to leave.

Realizing that she was the cause to Zhu Cang's bad mood, Susu lowered her head in guilt.

"You did very well Susu"

Susu turned her attention back to the Commander.

"Susu still has a lot to learn"

"Then, would you like to learn here at my Zhu camp?"

A bit surprised, Susu lifted her head to see the Commander's playful grin.

"Come, this old Commander will teach you a little self defense" The Commander stood with a big smile.

Susu tilted her head as she regarded the strong Commander. After a moment, she smiled softly and bowed her head to show gratitude.
