The atmosphere was stifling in the bullpen the next day. Rosa, Gina, Amy and Jake had all had 'meetings' with Rogers now - Rosa knew what had been said to Amy and herself but she had no clue about Jake and Gina.
"Come and talk to me now," Jake demanded, striding away to the evidence room and trusting that Rosa would follow. She did.
"Hey, dude, just listen to what i'm going to say. Amy loves you with all of her heart, okay? You two are soulmates and you know she wouldn't... wait, you do know," she said quietly, reading  Jake's expression. "You do know she hasn't cheated on you. I can see it in your face."
"Yes, I know that. I know she wouldn't and i love her. I don't want to leave her but i think i need to Rosa-"
Rosa frowned. Had he been told to divorce Amy? "Why, Jake?"
"I need to... i need to keep her safe."
Rosa's blood ran cold. "Safe from who," she whispered.
"I can't say."
"Jake, please, tell me," she pleaded.
"From... from me."

Silence.

"You wouldn't ever hurt her," Rosa murmured. "She doesn't need protecting from you-"
"You don't get it Rosa. Don't worry, okay? Leave it i wasn't meant to tell you." Jake turned and headed for the door. "Oh, one last thing," he said as he left. "I think you and Gina should be together. I just feel like i need to start saying things. Life is short so i thought i'd tell you."
"Oh. Um, i don't like gina," Rosa said quietly.
"You do Rosa." Jake smiled sadly and closed the door behind him as he left, leaving Rosa standing alone. What did he mean, life is short?

She laughed and tried to brush the encounter off, but it was harder than she'd expected. There was a reason it had hit so deep, what jake had said. Deep down she wanted it. Wanted Gina. So, so much. But she couldn't ever have her....

That made her heart ache more than she'd ever felt.
