Auburn Hair
Two hours later, the squad were sitting in the breakout room, listening to Amy excitedly raving about the new captain. "He seems so professional! I mean, nobody will ever rival Captain Holt, but Rogers could be a close second-"
"Shut up Amy," Rosa growled.
The squad stopped and stared at her. "What?"
"I said shut up. i don't want to hear you talk about him like that."
Amy frowned. "You don't like him?"
"Can't believe you do." Rosa grabbed her cup and strode out back into the bullpen, trying to breathe. She couldn't- the air was too tight- she snatched up her coat and ran downstairs.
Fresh air. She gasped it in and leaned against the building, biting her lip and willing herself to hold it together.
"Diaz?"
Rosa spun around and looked at the ground, blushing slightly. It was a cold day, that's why her cheeks were pink. No other reason. "You okay, Gina?"
"Yes, girl, but i'm not sure you are."
"Gina, i'm fine. I'm Rosa. I am always fine." She scuffed her feet on the ground, mustered all her strength and looked up at her auburn haired friend, trying not to notice how the sun shone off her locks and made her look even more ethereal than usual.
"Mmm," Gina said, unconvinced. She took Rosa's hand and sat her down at a bench, plonking herself down theatrically opposite the taller woman. "Rosie, don't lie, okay? What's up? That wasn't just a case earlier, was it?"
Rosa's blood ran cold - she didn't even notice she'd been called 'Rosie'. "Gina, shut up right now. Don't talk about this morning. It was just a case. You don't need to mention it again."
Gina rolled her eyes. "You are strange Rosa. 'Just a case' but you can't bear to talk about it. Hmmm," she said, standing up and strolling back to the precinct.
Rosa groaned and put her head in her hands. She replayed it in her head - Rogers showing her this one photo, of the one he wanted... wanted dead. She didn't know what to do. The things he knew about her... she would be finished as a cop if anybody found out.
"And i know you're in love with-" Rosa had cut him off but she knew that the name he was about to say was probably the right one. Massaging her temples, she stood and headed back to the precinct slowly. When she arrived back in the bullpen, the whole squad was standing awkwardly in a huddle, and leapt apart as she entered. "What's going on?" she asked.
"Nothing."
"Errr - right. Can I talk to the captain, Gina?"
"No, look."
Rosa headed to the door of the captain's office and widened her eyes. Rogers was sitting next to the commissioner, their heads close together, whispering. They stopped talking the second they saw her, and the commissioner raised his eyebrow and stood. "Thank you Rogers, very informative meeting. Ah, Diaz," he said as he passed her. "I hope you're behaving." He winked.
Rosa's stomach flipped over.
