Chapter 20

The elevator doors opened to the control room. Hoskins was standing with his arms behind his back as a group of workers, each with a grey shirt and a I.D tag clipped to the collar of their shirts, stood behind him. He stepped into the control room, the men, with guns, took their lead and began to make their way into the room while the security guard put his hand up to stop Hoskins and his men from walking into the room.

"Hey! You guys can't just be walking up in..." The security guard started. Lowery looked behind him at the suddenness of the guard's voice.

"Simon Masrani's death was a tragedy." Hoskins walked down the stairs. Lowery turned around in his chair, jumping in shock as a man placed a black brief case down beside him on his desk. "The new mission is to prevent further loss of life," Hoskins explained.

"Uh...Who are these guys?" Lowery inquired.

"I'm glad you asked." Hoskins pointed at him as he chewed on something. "You're all relieved of duty," he informed everyone in the control room. They all stopped moving and turned towards Hoskins in shock and confusion. His men were still walking around, setting up their own equipment. "There's a new team on the ground."

A helicopter with 'CR-1017' flew over the water on the way to the park. Four men sat in the back, the one with a thick beard heard a strange sound next to him, he looked over to see a Dimorphodon flying next to the helicopter. He aimed his gun and shot, the Dimorphodon squealed out as it dropped into the water. The man sat back, the other three men looked calmly over to him before looking back to their original spots. The helicopter neared its way to the island, flying passed a rock sticking out of the water and a small running waterfall.

-

Owen, with his gun readied in his hand, lead the others through the park. Claire was on the phone, her left finger in her ear to hear better. "Lowery, I'm on my way back to you." Gray looked around at the park while Marlo and Zach tried keeping up. Zach's hand was around Marlo's wrist as she kept looking back, slowing herself down. She was still upset about not doing anything for Zara.

Despite never getting along with Claire's assistant, Zara was still human. A deeply, deeply flawed human in Marlo's perspective, but she was still a life that she could have tried harder to save. At this point Marlo didn't really care if she got herself killed in the process, she would have died trying to save a life. That would have been all that mattered. But instead she's just left with a nagging feeling at the back of her mind telling her that she failed, that's she's no better than anyone else at the park.

She hated to admit that, she really did. But what was the point in being a worker if she didn't put her life second to those who weren't trained to look out for themselves? Zara wasn't trained to look after or know the dinosaurs like Marlo was, Marlo knew that, and yet a small part of her couldn't help but be angry at Zara. She wasn't exactly sure why she felt angry. Hell, that was a lie. She did know. She hated the fact that a woman worked at a place that she couldn't stand. If Zara hated the island so much then she should have transferred to another job.

Marlo kept looking back. In some ways hoping to see that Zara was on the phone trying to keep up with them, a scowl on her face and her arms struggling to hold her bag while her heels clicked along the concrete. But she knew that wasn't going to happen, and yet she still looked back. She knew that Zara was gone. She watched it happen. She watched as Zara was thrown about like a rag doll between Pteranodon's and then swallowed whole by the Mosasaurus.

"Marlo, please," Zach begged quietly as he tugged on her wrist.

"I should have done something." She shook her head, quickening her steps to fall in line with Zach as they walked briskly behind the other three. "Even if I died doing it."

"Marlo you can't think like that, not now." Zach glanced over to her while trying to keep up with the others.

     "It hurts, Zach."

"I know it does. But we're survivors. We have to keep going. I'm sure Zara would have understood."

Marlo stayed silent, a single tear rolled down her felt cheek as she looked back to Zach with a frown. "She was getting married, Zach. She was going to be happy." Zach's jaw tightened. "Now she'll never get to be happy. Who's going to tell Alec? What's he going to do? He's just lost his fiancée." Marlo breathed heavily, Zach felt a pang of guilt in his chest. He stopped her from trying to save Zara, and he caused Marlo this pain. He promised he wouldn't.

"Marlo..." His hand slipped down to hold hers, entwining their fingers, silently telling her that he was going to be there for her. "Just breathe." Marlo sucked in a deep breath, she wiped her cheek with the right sleeve of her jumper. She nodded her head and turned her head to look back. She stared at the back of Owen's head. She wasn't going to leave without saying goodbye.

"That's a bad idea," Lowery whispered into the phone as he stood in the corner of the control room, making sure that the risk of being heard was significantly decreased from where he was previously at his desk. "The board assigned emergency ops to InGen's private security division," he growled into the phone as he looked behind him making sure he wasn't heard. "This guy Hoskins is in charge." Lowery hears a tapping against the window next to him. "And he has this insane plan to use the Raptors to hunt the Indominus."

"What do you mean 'use the Raptors'?" Claire asked loudly. Owen stopped, Marlo copied his actions. Her hand squeezing Zach's.

"Son of a bitch!" Owen seethed through his teeth, as the sound of the helicopter drew their eyes to the sky.

"You shouldn't say 'bitch,'" Gray breathed out as they all looked up.

"Take the kids. Get them someplace safe." They all slowly turned to look behind them as the sound of cogs and metal tinkering brought their attention to the doors. People in front coward in fear while Marlo held onto Zach's upper arm with her right hand. She tugged him back as they all started to move backward and run towards the jeep behind them.

The doors opened and a Pteranodon roared at the guests who covered their heads with their hands, running around wildly. The crowd flooded in, screaming in the masses. Owen ran to the driver's side, quickly taking his gun off and opening the door. Claire moved into the passenger side while Gray got into the back with Zach following behind, tugging Marlo in, who quickly slammed the door closed, breathing heavily.

Owen pressed his foot down on the pedal, reversing the jeep. Claire held onto the dash board, pausing her body against the back of the seat, letting out a squeal. Gray and Marlo looked to each other wide eyed as Zach held his, now freed, right hand up. "You got this!" He yelled to Owen before Marlo and Gray copied. "Go faster! Damn it, drive!" Owen continued to reverse until he applied the breaks. Everyone being thrown backward.

"It's a goddamn stampede!" Marlo leaned forwards, watching the crowd run.

"This does not feel safe." Zach pushed Marlo's head down to look at the crowd as well.

"Zachary!" Marlo growled quietly as she held onto the arm rest in front of her.

"Can we stay with you?" Gray asked in a worried tone.

"I am never leaving you as long as you live." Claire shook her head as she stared at the crowed, her heart pounding faster and faster. She turned around to look at the three of them, Marlo offered a half grin as she stared at Claire. Zach pointed to Owen while Gray patted his shoulder.

     "No, him." Gray corrected himself.

     "Yeah him." Zach nodded.

"I'll stay with you, Claire." Marlo looked at her. "You have hella mad skills with a tranq gun, I didn't know you had that in you." Claire raised an eyebrow at her while Zach pinched her right arm. "Ow!" She winced as she turned back to look at him. Claire looked over to Owen, who looked over to her as well.

     "Yeah, definitely him," Gray mumbled.

Near the Raptor Paddock, off access to the guests, a group of men ran around a table, picking up guns and loading them up. A few guards, similar to those from the control room, stood on watch as Hoskins watched the Raptors. They were in the muzzled area where Barry had them the first time Hoskins came up close and personal with them. Some of the guards stood around writing and jotting things down on tablets as they looked over the Raptors.

Hoskins walked over and stood in front of Blue. He came down eye level with her. She began to growl at him. Hoskins patted the arm of the guard. The guard showed him the tablet that showed a night-vision picture of himself. "Hey! Right here." He clicked his fingers in front of Blue. "Right here." He lowered his fingers as he laughed. He knew she could see him.

"She looks at what she wants." Barry stood on the side line, leaning against the side. Hoskins looked over to him before he turned his attention back to Blue. "Usually what she wants to eat." Hoskins grin dropped from his face as he continued to stare at Blue. She growled at him more as their attention was caught but the sound of an engine.
