Chapter 14

In the control room Lowery checked the computers. Claire came up behind him frantically. Worried about the kids stuck in the gyrosphere.

"Are there any Gyrospheres left in the Valley?"

"No, they're all accounted for. It's my job." He pointed to the computer to show the gyrostation and all the gyrospheres are back in their holding areas. "What? There's one in the field." One of the spheres goes red and he pointed to it. Lowery shook his head, he didn't understand why one was out there still.

"Send a team of rangers, bring them in." Claire went over to Vivian.

"Security, we need a search and rescue in the Valley."

"It's gonna be a while. We've got our hands full out here," the search team responded immediately. Claire grabbed hold of the ear piece and put it to her ear, speaking rushed.

"No. No. No. No. No, there are two guests and an employee missing! You need to make this your top priority!"

"Just do it, man," Lowery talked to the man shaking his head. Knowing not to mess with Claire on this one.

"There's a lot of guests missing. We're doing the best we can," the search team responded.

"Okay. Fine. I'll do it myself." She slammed the ear piece down and started to walk away. She saw on the screen that Owen had his hands up, talking to one of the security guards.

"Do you think I'm the one you need to be worried about right now? Back off!" Claire breathed out as she rushed out of the room.

-

Marlo started losing feeling in her arm as it was trapped behind Gray's body from where she wrapped her arm around him. Zach continued to move along watching the dinosaurs. Marlo looked ahead of them and noticed the same thing Zach did.

     "What happened here?"

Marlo shrugged and looked towards the opened gates leading into a more dense area of the jungle. The sign on the opened gate read 'RESTRICTED AREA' with yellow and black warning lines. Marlo looked around, surely someone would have closed this or kept it locked if it was restricted.

"Zach, I swear to god if you even-" Marlo started, but Zach cut her off.

"Dude. Off-road." Zach looked to Gray.

"Are you purposely ignoring me now?"

     "Yep."

     "Why?"

"I saw what you did earlier."

     "When?"

     "In the line."

Marlo furrowed her eyebrows. He was talking about the fist bump. "Oh, come on, Zach! Why don't you take your own advice and grow up. So what if I fist bumped Gray? Can you just turn back, maybe listen to the warnings we were given earlier?"

     "I could."

     "Thank you." Marlo sighed.

     "But I'm not gonna."

     "Are you kidding me?"

     "Nope."

"But they told us to go back," Gray cut in before Marlo can make another comment. Zach tuts and looked forward, his right knee moving as he came up with a lie. Clearly just wanting to see what was in the restricted area. Some part of Marlo wanted to know what was down there as well.

She huffed as she turned to look at Zach. She glared before watching him lift his hand up, turning his head back to them.

"I'm just worried you're not getting the full Jurassic World experience." Marlo twitched her eye at Zach. He lifts his finger up to his lips and shushed her as he drove forwards, Marlo closed her eyes.

"I'm only going along with this because I'm curious," she mumbled to herself while Zach grinned.

"There's the spirit, Mars. Glad we are on the same page again, great to have you back." She lightly hit his chest with her free hand. "Okay, that wasn't."

     "You deserve it."

-

Down at the Innovation Centre majority of the guests were stuck inside. Listening to the P.A systems. Some were still playing with the interactive activities like the 'Holoscape'. Claire walked through the holographic Raptor looking around. She turned around and saw Owen.

     "Claire!"

     "I need you."

     "Okay."

"I need your help. My nephews, they're out in the Valley. Please, if anything happens to them..." Owen pulled Claire aside, trying to limit the visitors hearing her panicked voice.

"How old?" He asked once he's sure no one will listen to them

"Uh...The older one, he's like high school age." She lifted her hand up to Zach's height. "The younger one, he's...He's a few years..." She lowered her hand.

"You don't know how old your nephews are?" Owen raised an eyebrow.

"That's beside the point, there's something else."

     "What?"

     "Marlo is with them."

     "She's what?"

"Turns out they actually listened to what I said and went and found Marlo, dragging her along with their run away plan from Zara-"

"Why the hell didn't you tell me this before?"

"I was a little busy, Owen," she stressed as he rubbed his forehead.

     "Nothing better happen to her."

"I know, that's why I need your help."

"Okay, fine." Owen nodded. If Marlo was out with the boys, lost, while the Indominous Rex rampaged through the park then there was a very little chance of them getting out of it alive, and considering how much of a risk taker Marlo proved to be. Then there was going to be a problem.

-

Zach continued to steer the gyrosphere through the restricted area. Marlo's stomach turned in fear as it got darker and darker, more and more denser, the further in Zach drove. Marlo tried to steady her breathing while Gray freaked out a little, wanting Zach to turn back around.

"No, no. Bad idea, bad idea."

     "Great idea," Zach told him.

"No!" He almost whimpered. "We're gonna get arrested. They'll shave our heads, and we're gonna have to make root beer in the toilet!"

"What are you talking about?" Gray stayed silent while Zach looked in the direction of a roar from an Ankylosaur. "There." One of the Ankylosaurus' shook its head, huffing. Marlo glanced to Zach. "You see? I told you. You're welcome. Up close and personal with four-" Zach waved his hand over the small clearing of Ankylosaurus'. "Dinosauruses."

     "Ankylosaurus," Marlo informed him.

     "Yeah, that."

"We shouldn't be here. And there's five dinosaurs," Gray commented while Marlo looked around.

"Aren't you supposed to be a genius or something?" He pointed over to them. "Look. One, two, three, four."

Gray lifted his finger to the glass, showing a reflection of another one. "Five," he whispered out quietly.

Marlo glanced up, along with the boys, seeing the bloodied jaw of a white dinosaur. Her eyes went wide. "What in the hell is-" It roared loudly, Marlo squeaked as she was cut off.

"Go, go, go!" Gray slapped Zach's arm as he puts his hand on the steering shift. Pushing it down, Marlo braced herself as her head hit the back of the seat. The Indominous Rex kicked the gyrosphere, Gray grabbed hold of Marlo tightly as she didn't have a belt on and they all screamed as it started to chase them.

The gyrosphere span wildly out of control, Zach and Marlo shielded their eyes, Marlo covered Gray's as he held onto her.

"Shit!" Zach yelled as Gray continued to scream. Zach puts his arm out in front of Marlo to make sure she didn't move. Gray grabbed hold of Zach's arm as well. Marlo now trapped between them. "Hold it together, man!" Zach held onto the side of the gyrosphere as it stopped spinning.

The other Ankylosaurus had either run or fallen to the ground. Zach looked over to the other two. Marlo had her head behind Gray's, he placed his left hand on her back making her look back up. One of the Ankylosaurus's roared at the Indominous Rex, it roared back and went to attack it.

"Drive! Drive! Go!" Zach steered them away quickly, trying to get out as fast as he could. The tail of an Ankylosaurus slammed into the front making them stop and spin once more. The gyrosphere knocked into a tree trunk and they all tipped upside down. Marlo tried holding on to the seats to stop herself from falling onto the ceiling of the gyrosphere.

Zach tried to move the steering shift but it did nothing. Marlo watched the Indominous Rex latch its jaw onto the Ankylosaurus, but it couldn't hold on, the tail of the Ankylosaurus swung back and the Indominous moved away. It roared and uses its clawed arms to hold the Ankylosaurus, lifting it up and pinning it back down.

"Oh god," Marlo whispered in fear as the Indominous Rex pushed the Ankylosaurus onto its back, wrapping its jaws around its head and bitting down. Gray looked away with a whimper while Zach stared in horror, breathing heavily. Gray looked back when the sound of bones crushing stopped.

"We're safe in here, right?" Gray looked to the older two.

"Yeah. They're totally safe," Zach whispered out, trying not to make any loud sounds. "Right, Mars?"

"This wasn't on the job description." Marlo ignored him, talking to herself. "I don't even know what that thing is." She squeezed her eyes shut as her voices got quieter and quieter. "I really have to pee."

The sound of vibrating pulled their attention to the bottom of the gyrosphere, Claire's face lit up on Zach's phone screen. He tries to grab it, but the belt locked him in place. Marlo was too paralysed to make any movements to the phone.

"Come on." Claire looked around as Owen drove. "Pick up, pick up, pick up."

Zach almost grabbed it but the vibrating made it move around. Gray looked back to the Indominous Rex.

     "Zach."

"I almost got it." He grunted as his fingers were just millimetres away.

     "Zach?"

     "Yeah?"

Marlo looked to where Gray is looking, her eyes widened, it feels like her blood ran cold, her heart rate picked up and it felt like it was about to explode.

     "Look."

"What?" He breathed out, looking as well. The amber coloured eye of the Indominous Rex squinted directly in front of them.

"Go away," Marlo whined to herself. Zach breathed out before it lifted its head back up. The kids were no longer able to see it. Gray grabbed Zach's upper arm. Marlo doing to same. The Indominous Rex stood above the gyrosphere, its long clawed arms gripping around it as it spun it around. "I'm gonna fall." Marlo groaned.

The Indominous Rex rolled the gyrosphere back around, so they were now facing up to the Indominous Rex. Marlo gulped as she continues to hold onto Zach's arm, squeezing her hand around him. The Indominous Rex slammed a claw into the top of the gyrosphere, smashing through. The glass cracked right above them. Small shards splintered around the inside.

The Indominous Rex tilted the gyrosphere again. Marlo glanced to the boys. Their eyes were closed. Marlo couldn't help but keep her eyes open. The Indominous Rex looked into the gyrosphere, directly at her. Marlo's eyes widened, her grip on Zach's arm tightens, her left hand slowly moving in front of Gray to shield him.

The boys opened their eyes once more, staring in horror as they waited for the Indominous Rex's next move. It roared and opened its mouth. Gray hid his head behind Marlo's arm, and Zach grabbed Marlo's right thigh tightly as it moved its jaw around the gyrosphere. They all screamed as the glass fogs up. The Indominous Rex struggled to get a hold of the gyrosphere, as it rolled around underneath her jaw.

The Indominous Rex's jaw clamped down and the glass started to break even more. It lifted the gyrosphere in the air, slamming it back down to the ground. Marlo's eyes filled with tears as she shook her head. Zach tried moving the steer shift again, Gray screamed loudly as the back of the gyrosphere started to break. Zach's converse pressed against the gyrosphere as he tried to unclip his belt along with Gray's.

Marlo noticed and loosened her grip on his arm, moving her hand away from Gray's front. The three of them fell out of the back, Gray landing on top of Marlo, who groaned as the back of her head met the ground. The boys landed on their fronts. Zach got up and looked towards the gyrosphere. He pulled the two up to a sitting position, not letting go of Marlo's shirt. He covered the both of them as the gyrosphere slammed back down around them.

"Go! Go!" He pushed Gray out first. "Gray, go!" He pulled Marlo up with him. "Crap!" He yelled as they continued running. Marlo made the mistake of looking back. The Indominous Rex roared at them, her clawed hands on the ground. Marlo turned back and continued running.
