I held my breath as the door opened, watching as three people walked through the door. Two men and one woman. I wanted to laugh at the absurdity of the situation- we had really believed that we were alone. The last people on earth. I suppose I should have realised sooner that the base was nothing more than a lie, everything they told us was fake. Everything about rebuilding humanity. Everything about being alone. All was false.
"You may be wondering why you are here," one of the men who had entered said in a soft voice, and I felt my whole body quaver from fear- what did they want with us. The woman next to him spoke before we could even ask them a question.
"We are Moles, part of a group that lay hidden underground whilst the world slowly destroyed itself," the woman's voice was deep, almost like a man's, "We knew that there were other humans alive, you have proved that."
"What do you want with us?" Azul said in almost a whisper, again she sounded vulnerable and scared. One minute she could bossy and rude but the next she was as quiet as a mouse.
"Your help. We are deeply sorry for the whole kidnapping thing. We just wanted to get your down here and explain before your freaked out," why did they want our help? What could any of us offer to this group of people? And why had they kidnapped us when it was much simpler to explain? So many questions whirred round my head.
"Why do you want our help? What can we possibly do for you?" Coby spat at them, glaring at the three people standing near the door with a look that could kill. I could tell that he didn't trust them, I was also pretty unconvinced by them.
"You are all young, healthy people. I'm sure your skill set will be able to help us. Would you like to stay in here interrogating us all day? Or would you prefer to see the base instead?" the last man spoke finally, he had stayed mute for a majority of the time. He looked arrogant, he had this confident smirk plastered on his face that I wanted to slap off.

We were walking through the maze of corridors, being led by the three people who had originally greeted us but we were slowly seeing more people walking around. It was a big area, much bigger than I expected.
"These are the training rooms, this is where newbies learn how to fight," the arrogant man pointed out to us; the rooms he was referring to looked pretty bland and boring, they had a few guns on the wall which made me sweat slightly. Why did they need guns?
"You get many newbies?" Someone, probably Maz, shouted to the man and the jerk had the nerve to roll his eyes. This new man was getting on my nerves extremely quickly and I didn't even know his name.
"Used to, when the world was in a really bad state. People would come to us all the time, begging us to take them in. We could be picky, we could choose who we wanted to work alongside," I knew that the man was probably over exaggerating, but I didn't really care. All I wanted to do was sleep, I was so exhausted.
When we reached a communal dining room, I saw around fifty pairs of eyes turn to us, giving us all confused stares.
"What's with the newbies Lance?" A man came over to talk to the arrogant man. So that was his name, Lance. It seemed pretty fitting that such an annoying man had such a pretentious name.
"Found them in the street," he said loudly, not caring that we were standing right behind him. I rolled my eyes and Niall, who was walking beside me, laughed quietly. I was glad that he was talking to me again, that we had gone back to normal but there was still a part of me that wished we could be something more than friends. Shaking these thoughts away, I followed everyone to the kitchen where we were given a plate of hot food and we all sat down slightly awkwardly.
It felt weird being at the Mole base, I felt like an intruder despite the fact that we had been forced to go there. We all ate in silence, as Lance and his friends talked at the other end of the table, as far away from us as they could. They all kept looking at us, some smiled but some gave us dirty looks. I concentrated on my food, not wanting to engage in stilted conversation with anyone.
Suddenly, I felt the presence of a person beside me and I turned my head to see the arrogant Lance with a smirk on his stupid face. Coughing, I looked back at my food but I had lost my appetite.
"You know, I knew you existed. I knew there were other people out there, everyone called me crazy but I just knew," he sounded so proud of himself and I didn't know how to reply so an awkward silence filled the air. I didn't know how to feel about these new people. Could we trust them?
Soooo the Moles, are they good or bad? We'll see later. And who is this Lance guy? He's pretty full of himself, that's for sure.
