Chapter Six

Draco Malfoy- Wizard

He felt the room spin again. A blur of colors and pain. Yes pain. Every part of him hurt. Every breath caused pain to explode in his chest. A metallic taste lingered in his mouth. The taste of blood. His blood.

He head was swamped with fiery pain at the edge of each thought. His jaw ached as it swung limply against chest. Bruises and cuts covered his body, his clothes were ripped and torn, his once prized shoes now sat against the floor torn and stained red. His face was red with fever.

His body was broken. His mind fractured, like glass cutting the inside of his head. Tears streamed down his face mixing with the blood and dripping like rain on the room's floor. A small sob escaped his lips.

How long had it been? Three minutes? an Hour? A day?

They were going to wipe his memory soon. Hey, maybe they would even kill him. He felt his throat start to close up, his eyes stung as he tried to hold back the tears.

But he couldn't. If he couldn't hold back tears where could he find the strength top stop the flashbacks? To stop his own personal Hell? His own demons?

"Love makes you weak Draco. Remember that." His father had said.

If only he did. Would it have changed things? Sure, she wouldn't be alive....But would he?

"Mudbloods are a disgrace to wizarding world." His father had ranted. "And blood traitors, like those pathetic Weasely's, too!"

Every hero needed something to fight for. That's why he did it, right? For her? To give her hope?

"When the dark one returns, we will stand tall. They will cower at our feet."

He tried to want it. He really did. But he couldn't abandon his feelings. So he pushed her away.

"No one asked your opinion, you Filthy little Mudblood."

He called her names. Tried to make himself believe it. That she was beneath him. But he couldn't.

Just Couldn't.

If he had admitted it would she have pushed back still? Would she still live in her world of faults? Or would she have accepted his help?

Hermione was sobbing again. Tears fled freely down her perfect face. she ticked back and forth in the corner.

"It's my fault." She whimpered."It's all my fault."

He stood in the doorway watching. She didn't seem to notice him. She didn't want to notice him. She had had Ron. But he was gone. Could he possibly mend her broken heart?

"No." He said out loud. "It's not."

Hermione didn't seem to hear. She just kept crying.

"Hermione!" He yelled.

She stared ahead trance-like.

"SHUT YOU STUPID MUDBLOOD!" He roared. She looked at him finally. Her eyes shattered like broken glass.

"Why are you here?" She whimpered. "I killed everyone! I'm the reason they're dead."

"This is not your fault!" He said kneeling next to her. She turned away. "Granger! look at me!"

"Go away Malfoy!" She sobbed. "You always hated me! Why is now any different?!"

He felt like someone slapped him. "Hermione, I never hated you. Please don't blame yourself. You had no control over any of this."

"Don't act like you care, Draco!" She sobbed pushing him away. "This is my fault. I should be dead. I wish you never saved me!"

He didn't know what to do. She was lost. That much was clear. Lost in herself. Tears spilled down her face. He couldn't help it. He never felt so useless. He wrapped his arms around her.

"Stop it!" She screamed at him. "Get off! I don't deserve this! I let them die!" She cried. If anyone heard her, none came in. "It's my fault."

"No. No it's not." He said. "It was the muggles. The humans. They pulled the trigger."

"If I had just trusted the demigods-!"

"The muggles tried to kill us. They won't get away with it."

"If I had-"

"Hermione." He gently turned her face to him. Silver tears glistened on her face. Her watery eyes still reflected the stars for him. The longing in him roared, his heart hammered in his chest.

Before he knew it his lips were on hers. Sparks flickered in his mind. Is this how it felt to be in love? her lips were salty with tears. He wanted more. He wanted her to smile. To be happy. To kiss back.

She shoved him away. Looking at him once, showing an emotion that made his heart break. Then she got up and ran out the door.

The pain in his was unbearable. The look in her eyes. The longing in him.

"I'm sorry, Hermione." He whispered, his own tears threatening to fall. "I'm sorry."

She was broken. Her eyes said everything. She wanted to believe him but the scars were too deep. She needed a hero. She needed him.

At least he hoped she did.

"I love you Hermione Granger. I won't ever forget you."

He made that promise. He intended to keep it. Fire raged in him. These muggles had destroyed his life. His future. Their future. They were going to pay.

His body was broken, his mind replaying his memories. Tears had died up, replaced by anger. Defiance shone in his eyes. She needed him back there. She needed someone to be there for her. A shoulder to cry on.

He needed to be there.

The door clanked open. Draco glared up at the white armored men. Pain seem to swallow him whole. One of the three walked forward roughly grabbing his arm.

Draco bit his tongue. He wouldn't let them have the pleasure of hearing him scream. The man frowned. Then with a quick flick of his wrists Draco's arm snapped.

Draco yelped, tears blurring his vision again. These muggles grinned, one holding him even laughed.

"Stupid mutations." One said. "Think they're so high and mighty. And yet a bullet to the head stops them all dead."

"Wonder how many bullets this one would last." Three other one said.

"Our orders are to take it to the memory center." The last one snarled. "Get it moving."

He felt terror wraps it's could fingers around his heart and mind. That's where it happens. Where they make you forget. He didn't want to forget.

He made a promise.

Fiery pain coursed through his body they dragged him down the identical looking hallways. The lights were so bright Draco felt blinded. His shoes skidded across the floor after him. He had no energy to fight. He barely had energy to breath.

They entered a room. throwing him into a table, and leaving as he cried out in pain.

He made a promise.

He kept repaying it in his head. As if that was the one thing that could save his memory. He tried to move red blurred his vision white hot fire exploded in his arm. Tears fell down his face.

He made a promise. To Hermione. He loved her. He couldn't forget.

The door opened reveling two people in lab coats. One held a tray, the other walked right up next to him. He started at Draco like he was at a zoo and a new exhibit just opened.

He made a promise.

"A wizard, huh?" The one next to him said. "Creepy, little freaks. Wonder where his wands at. Maybe I could conjure up myself a better life."

"I'm sure if they could do that this one would've done that." The other said. She held the tray out as the man took a syringe of a thick green yellow liquid checked it.

"I made a promise." Draco mumbled. "To Hermione. I love her."

They seemed to think that was adorable and laughed.

He made a promise.

The syringe inched closer to his arm.

He made a promise.

The syrupy liquid poured into his arm. He felt nothing. Not even the needle. Like his entire brain was numb.

He made that promise.

His vision tunneled. His tongue felt like lead and his body like air. Everything was disoriented. Thoughts were broken up and swarmed around him. He had to remember.

Then everything went black.

He made a promise....What was it again?
