New Life
Day 13 of Month 6 of Year 3040
I woke in the afternoon. In the room with me was the girl I had seen yesterday, Ana. She was cleaning and humming to herself, looking exhausted but happy. She seemed to sense that I was awake, and she turned.
"What's your name? Caeden said that yesterday, you told him that it was Flame. Is that right?" Ana asked me.
"Yes. My name is Flame. Or, that's what I've been called all my life. Where am I?"
"We don't have a name for it. It's safer this way."
I sat there awkwardly for a bit, not sure how to continue the conversation with Ana. She continued to work, completely ignoring me. Suddenly, I moved, and a sharp pain shot through my hands. I cried out, and Ana turned and looked at me in surprise.
"Are you alright?" She asked me, "What's wrong?"
I looked down at my hands which seemed to look perfectly fine. "My hands... They felt like they were burning," I told her, describing the pain I felt. She looked at my hands, and carefully took them in her own. I could feel a cool feeling spread through my hands and soothe the painful nerves. She finished, and turned to continue cleaning further back in the room. She looked at me once more over her shoulder, and as she cleaned, she explained.
"Your hands may continue to hurt some of the time, because the hands are the channels for the energy that gives all of us our powers. You recieved some injuries before you got here, so the trauma has affected your powers, forcing them to build up, and release painfully on occasion. In time, you will learn to control your powers better, and your injuries will heal. Then, you won't have to deal with the pain. But, for now, you have to accept it. If the pain becomes too much to bear, I can help you, although it drains quite a bit of my own power. But before all that, you need to rest, and regain your strength. This will be your room once I finish cleaning it and making it acceptable to live in."
I wasn't sure what to do, so I nodded and tried to relax. I was worried, and more than a little bit hungry. Above all, I wondered where they had put the rest of my things. I found my journal here beside the bed, along with a new pen. So I decided to write, and sleep. Maybe soon I will feel better. As for right now, sleep calls me again, so I may as well sleep. I just need to decide what to do after I recover and they let me move around freely. I wonder what this place truly is...
