Cold as Ice
Day 10 of Month 6 of Year 3040
It has been a week since I have written since there is nothing to write. I have stayed in the cave, living off dried fruit and jerky, but I need to move on. I am going to travel through the cave system as far as I can, and go up the mountains. If there are any survivors, they'll be up there, I hope. Every day, I have turned on the radio for a few minutes each day, just to see if there is anyone broadcasting. So far there has been nothing, unfortunately. I hope that if anyone has survived, they can help me. For right now, though, I'm going to start packing up
( about a half-hour later)
I'm going now. I'll keep writing as I stop for breaks, but mostly, I'm just going to walk.
( about twenty minutes later)
I've made good progress. By my estimates, I've gone one and a half miles. That might not sound like much, but I am hauling a large pack and trying to go in a straight line. I found some soft rocks outside one of the larger caves, and they make streaks on the wall, so I know where I've been. I'm leaving now, and I'll check back in later.
(An hour later)
I've gone about 3 or 4 miles total, surprisingly, and I'm exhausted. Even though I haven't been walking very long, I'm going to sleep now and attempt to find an exit tomorrow. I'll write then.
(four hours later)
I can't sleep anymore, so, despite the dangers of being out during the night, I am going to try and find an exit. Annoyingly enough, my flashlight's batteries are dying, and, while I have some more, I want them to last as long as they can. I don't know when I can find more, so I need to use it carefully. Before, I heard rumors of people living in the mountains, usually runaways or oldies. But I have no idea whether those rumors are true or not. I hope so. But, I'm going to continue walking, and I'll write more tomorrow.
