27. True friend

CHAPTER 27: True friend

“No, don’t do it.” I yelled out, trying to get his hand away from my head.
“I have to Cupcake or it’ll leave a big bump on your pretty head.” Ryan chuckled lightly as he pressed the ice pack again on my head where the pole dropped.
“It’s paining.” I screamed, moving my legs hysterically.
Ryan grabbed both my legs by their ankles and spoke, “Stay still. Don’t annoy me.”
“No one can annoy the annoying one.” I commented teasingly, looking at him as my head was placed on his lap.
“Psst, I’m not annoying.” he snorted, pressuring the ice pack on my head again, making me flinch a little.
“Truth can never be hidden, my friend.” I  stated, enjoying the annoyed look on his face.

But I guess it was a mistake to annoy him as he pressed the ice pack with much force this time.

I groaned with pain and commented, “You’re so mean.”
He didn’t reply to that as he must have enough of my rants and insults till then. I was quite a blunt person with him and it was clear from that look on his face that he was pissed off.

I raised my head a little and gave him a soft peck on the lips. Parting away, I gave him the sweetest smile I could manage. A grin plastered on his face and he kissed me again, with much passion than I did.

His lips were so soft and tempting that I couldn’t stop myself either. Who could? It’s Ryan we’re talking about!

A knock on the door interrupted us. Ryan placed my head on the couch and spoke,”I’ll get it.”

I looked at the ceiling and giggled to myself. The feeling was back, the feeling which I used to get when we were together. The kisses, the fights, the cheesiness, it all seemed  to be coming back in my life.

I would be long lost in my dreamland but what I heard made me to come back to reality.

“Jade’s here, right?” Dillan spoke in a firm voice. I looked in the direction of the door where the two ‘gentlemen’ were standing. Dillan and Ryan together? Wasn’t a good idea!

But then last night’s event flashed back in my head.

I was helpless and cold and what he did was talk nonsense with me? And that too drunk nonsense? Like I had said last night as well, you were so gone brother.

I got up from the couch and grabbed the ice pack. Clenching my jaw and stabbing my nails on the pack with anger, I looked at Dillan. He looked at me as well and smiled with relief.

“There you are.” he smiled, gesturing me to come outside.

I walked over to him and asked, “Where were you last night?”
He looked at me with confusion and spoke,”What?”
“I asked where were you.” I repeated,  the ice pack still in my hand.
It was like realization flashed from his face. His hand went to scratch his head, his expression shifting from confused to that of acknowledgement.

“Did I do something to you too?” he asked, adding a nervous chuckle at the end. My head shook with disbelief. So he caused troubles for others as well? Brilliant!

“So, you’re Leonardo?” I asked all of a sudden, crossing my arms, remembering all the things he said to me last night on the phone.

“You see everything blue huh?” I spoke in the same tone as before.
I took a step closer to him. He blinked his eye and took a step away, saying,”Seriously Jade, I have no idea what you’re talking about so stop speaking things I don’t remember.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. We stared at each other for a while but then I did something which was the result of my anger at him.

I pour the whole ice pack in his pants!

Dillan yelled out so loudly that the windows would have broken.
“What did you do?” he yelled out, jumping around. I heard Ryan laughing at Dillan’s vulnerability. I felt bad for what I did as well but he kind of deserved it. He left me alone when I needed help.

“Now something else will turn blue.” Ryan commented with amusement. I titled my head to him and gestured him to shut up by shaking my head.

He stopped jumping and started to breath heavily. With his hands shaking, he turned around and pulled out the ice pack out.
He then turned to me and slammed down the pack on the floor. He looked at me and shouted, “Why the fuck did you do that?”
“Now you know how it feels to get frosted in the corridor?” I snapped out.

His face turned softer than before like he finally realized what he did.
“Oh, I’m so sorry Jojo. I didn’t mean to do any of the things.” he apologized. His face held that pleading look which you couldn’t resist.

“It’s alright, I know you’re a light headed.” I commented, looking at the floor where water was collecting due to the ice pack.
“But the thing is, what are you doing here?” he asked with his rough tone again which was probably for Ryan. He gave him a death glance and his jaw automatically clenched as he looked at him for a while.

Wow, they can’t even stand each other for a minute! What will happen in the future?

“I had nowhere to go so I stayed here for the night.” I stated casually.
Dillan sighed, running his fingers from his hair. He looked at me with disappointment in his eyes and spoke, “Come on, we need to talk.”

I was quite surprised to see his reaction. I felt a string of guilt running inside my body. He advised me not to be around Ryan, he broke my heart and Dillan was concerned about it happening again. But it wasn’t that easy. It was Ryan we were talking about and staying away from him is like staying away from love because he was the first person I ever loved and probably will be the last person as well. No matter how messed up Ryan’s life was, he still was a good guy. Due to his careless behaviour and attitude toward the world sure made him a bad influence in the eye of the people who hated him already but not everyone thought that. Gran didn’t think of him as a bad one at all, his mom didn’t, neither his sister nor his friends ad not even me. The people who were close to him knew the real Ryan.

For the world he may be a spoiled guy but for the people who really knew him, he was a person to me admired. He was so strong and courageous that he couldn’t see his loved one in pain. He couldn’t stand the fact about his father treating his mother in a way no child would like. The care he had for his sister was commendable. All in all, he was truly a great guy, whose only fault was that he was born to a father who didn’t give a shit about his family.

“You need to understand Jade, he isn’t good for you.” Dillan said for the hundredth time. I pressed my palm on my ear to cover them up. He looked at me and spoke,”You just want to bury the truth even when it’s right in front of you.”

I got up from my bed and sat where Dillan was sitting. I placed my palm on his shoulder to calm him down and whispered, “He isn’t a bad guy, Dillan.”
“How can you say that? And you? You are the person taking his side, the person whose heart was broken by that guy?” he spat.

“Your point is right but I’ve seen the real him, Dillan. He isn’t a bad person, he’s just a little messed up.” I stated.
“Yeah, and he’ll mess you up as well.” I sighed at Dillan’s words. We’ve been fighting over it for the last ten minutes and I wasn’t seemed to be able to convince him on this one. I told him that I kissed him again this morning and he was furious over me.

I do respect the concern he had for me but that didn’t mean he could make decisions in my life. If I’ll get hurt, at least I would know it was my entire fault, I wouldn’t blame it on anyone else. I knew that Ryan wouldn’t do what he did last time because after that conversation from last night, I came to discover all the reasons behind he pushing away everyone away, especially me. He didn’t want to be the reason for my pain, for my sufferings that I may go through if I’ll be with him. He did all this for me, he cared for me. He said he would live alone for him whole life than being together and watching me getting hurt my his father or any other problem of his life.

Your first instinct is always right and the fact that I love Ryan from my entire heart was the first instinct I had. Nothing is worth it if you aren’t happy and if I’ll stay away from him, I won’t me happy.

My attention was brought back to the reality when I heard Dillan sighing. He was looking at me with a mixture of expressions.

“Look Jade, I just want you happy and safe and it you don’t want to do what I told you before, it’s fine but just remember, once a heartbreaker, always a heartbreaker. Ig you’re happy with him, then I’m totally fine by it because I don’t want to pressurize any decision on you.” his words came out more surprising that I thought they would.

I stared at him with disbelief and spoke,”What happened to you in a second?”
He chuckled lightly and announced, ”A second? It has been around ten minutes since you were lost in your dreamland.”
I gasped, “Really?”
He nodded his head and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.
“I can’t see you lost forever. You always space out but since you’ve come here and encountered a few moments with Ryan, I’ve observed that it was became your habit. You seem to be lost for the whole time and I can see the stress on your face. You are suffering in both the cases, whether near him or away from him. If you’ll stay away from him, you’ll keep on thinking about him and then die.”

I nudged my arm into his stomach and chuckled, “That was harsh, why would I die?”
He accompanied me with the laughter and stated, “Because you overthink too much.”
“And I won’t be suffering if I stay near him.” I refused, narrowing my eyes at him.
“Whatever floats in your boat. But the thing I want to say is that do whatever you want, just don’t let that guy hurt you again because if that happens, I’ll be in jail.” he said with amusement.
I nodded my head and spoke, “I get what you are speaking. Don’t worry; you won’t go to jail due to killing him.”

We chuckled for a while and the warm feeling enveloped me. The feeling of having a friend who was so caring and concerning.

As I came out of my accountancy class, looking down at my phone, a soft pair of lips placed on my head.

I looked up with surprise and saw Ryan smiling at me.
“What was that for?” I said awkwardly.
“It’s called a gesture when you meet people, didn’t you know?” he asked with amusement.
I began to walk again and spoke,”You welcome people by kissing them on their head?”
“ Nah, just for a special someone.” he whispered softly near my ear. He gave me his heart melting smile and walked away slowly.

A special someone?
Can he be more charming than this?

“I can see that you guys are back together.” A familiar voice sang. I looked aside and saw Kacie grinning at me.
“Huh?” I asked as I didn’t hear what she said because I was too stuck up at Ryan’s words.
“You and Ryan.” she chirped and then made a heart with her palms. I smiled shyly and pushed her away playfully.

“Aw, blushing Jady looks cute.” she teased, chuckling.
“You’re annoying.” I chuckled along with her.

We began to walk toward the cafeteria before parting our ways to our homes. Through the way, Kacie kept asking me about what happened between me and Ryan and kept on giggling. Kacie had an adorable personality!

“And what about you? No love interest in your life?” I asked her, nudging her arm.
“Well, there’s a guy back home that looks quite interested in me and we spend some quality together when I went back home for the weekend.” she stated.
I grinned and raised my palm in from of her, “Hand me over his picture.”

She giggled and handed me her cell phone. We entered the cafeteria. I kept my eyes on her phone when the sting on coldness enveloped my body due to the icy cold water that was thrown on me.

I gasped and I looked up to the person who did it.

May!

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” I yelled out. The crown od students was starting to get around us, ready to enjoy a cat fight.
“You deserved it.” May shrieked, placing the glass back on the table.
My face boiled hot with anger even when my body was freezing cold. Kacie came near me and asked with concern, “Are you alright?”
I nodded my head and spoke,”Yeah, I’m alright but someone else isn’t going to be alright in a few minutes.”
My words were towards May who was standing in front of me with so much hatred in her eyes.

“Now tell me, what the hell is your problem?” I asked.
“You are my problem. You keep on stealing everything which was first mine. You’re a fucking show off.” she cried out.

My mouth opened to speak but then I stopped as I heard her.

Steal? Show off? She was using all these words for me?

“What?” I said with shock.
“Yes, Ian was my boyfriend first and stole him away. I told you that Ryan was my crush but you took him away from me. When I came to your apartment, you kept on showing me your expensive dresses. But let me tell you, I’m more richer than you, I have more expensive dresses and a way better sense of style that you.” she finished with her words.

I was shocked after listening to her.
She thought all this about me for this whole time?

“I didn’t steal Ian away from you. He isn’t my boyfriend, just a friend. I never show offed anything in front of you, you were the person you opened my wardrobe and searched for some clothes, not me. And yet again, you have a boyfriend May, why do you even care about two other guys?” I spat.

My anger was building up by every word she was saying, I didn’t know for how long I would be able to hold back.

She chuckled humourlessly and crossed her arm over her chest dramatically and spoke,”You never see your own mistakes Jade. You’re too stuck up on yourself that you don’t see that you’re hurting people around you.”

“Shut up with your nonsense now, May.” Kacie warned her but I stopped her from saying anything else,”Don’t worry Kacie, let her speak.”

I wanted to hear what she thought of me, she seemed to be such a good friend when I met her but I was wrong.

She looked at Kacie and then at me,”You know what Jade? You should grow up from your level and try to become a better person. You try to get everyone’s attention by false means, especially of guys’. You are playing with three guys at the same time; Dillan, Ian and Ryan. And not just the three guys but everyone else, you love to get boys’ attention. You are cheating on the three guys and what a game you’re playing with them. You have more male friends than females. But you know what a girl who is too popular with the males is called?” she paused and the finished with an ugly look on her face, “a slut.”

Tears started to build up in my eyes but I held them back.

I stepped closer to May, not saying a word. I looked at her satisfied look and did what I wanted to do for a long time.

 I slapped her.
