Chapter Seven

"Mom, do you think he'll ever come home?" I asked, sitting on the couch and listening to a report of yet another missing person in the town just ten minutes away from us. My little brother was among those who were missing and I feared that he was dead.
"I don't know." Mom admitted. His disappearance had been the hardest on her. She spent hours on end crying and she spent the entire night outside calling out his name in the hopes that he would come back. "I don't know what we did go cause him to run away. Maybe because he was different."
My brother was adopted by us at the age of three after a two year long battle of actually trying to obtain him. The orphanage that he was in didn't want anyone to take him because of his shapeshifting powers and his golden eyes. When I first saw him, I thought he was a gorgeous little boy with those eyes of his. They were golden and I always got really jealous of them because I knew he was going to grow up and be attractive as hell. That is, if he keeps his shape-shifting a secret from the world.
"I'm going to go out and try find him." I said, getting up from the couch feeling very determined.
"No." Mom said grabbing ahold of her arm as her voice cracked and more tears spilled out of her eyes. "I can't lose you too."
"Mom, I swear on my life that I won't leave you." I said. "Dad might have left but that doesn't mean that I will."
She looked at me for a free moments before nodding. "Okay. I believe you sweetie. Just please, do me a favor and be careful."
"Of course Mother."

"Say your name and state your business."
"Rinalda." I said. I quickly thought of a complete lie because I knew that they wouldn't have let me pass if I said that I was looking for my adopted brother who may or may not be dead. "And I'm going to see my sick aunt."
"At eleven-thirty at night?"
Damn it. I should've known that it wouldn't have worked.
"My mom asked me to come over since she's got work in the morning."
"But don't you have school?"
"I'm home schooled." Another lie but I needed them to let me through.
"Okay then." He said, stepping out of my way. "Just be careful. There are officers patrolling everywhere so you should be safe."
"Wonderful." I said, steeping over the barracks.

I've never seen so many cops in my entire life.
I swear, I think that some of these cops aren't even from this town because there's no way that a town with a population of maybe one-hundred or so would have the amount of cops that they have.
While walking down a street with hardly any houses, I spotted a pair of golden eyes peering out from a bush.
"Aiden!" I cried, running towards the bush. He emerged when I called his name. His blond hair was sticking up everywhere and his clothes looked worn. "Thank God! Mom and I have been so worried about you! When we get home, she's going to hug you to death."
"I can't go home Rin." Aiden said, looking down at his Converse. "I've done bad things."
"What bad things?"
"I killed my real parents." He whispered. "And other innocent people. But she tricked me into doing it. She said that I should get revenge for all the bad things that my real parents did to me. As for the innocent people, she threatened to hurt you guys so I went along with it. I can't go home until I stop her."
"Well, I'm not going home without you by my side." I said. "Is this girl behind all of the disappearances?"
He nodded, looking up at me.
"Where have you two been staying?"
"I'll take you there but I have to explain something to you on the way."
*****
"Who the hell is this?" A girl who looked like she was Aiden's age asked when we entered a house by going through the woods.
"She's my sister." Aiden said.
"Perfect." She said, running her fingers through his hair and kissing his cheek. Something seemed so wrong about that. "Take her to the room."
He grabbed ahold of my hand and began leading me to whatever room the girl was referring to.
"You'll win this for me, right?" He murmured.
"Of course." I said.
"Good because I don't want to do this anymore." He said as we entered a room that two different corridors leading to it, just like he had told me. He also clued me in that things were going to change at four AM and instead of four animatronics, there was only going to be one.
"Good luck." Aiden said, peering into the room. "You'll need it."
"I won't let you down little bro." And I meant it.
I felt my heart leap when the alarm clock hit midnight. I quickly went to the right side and turned on my flashlight. I looked down the hall and saw nothing. I went over to the left side and did the same thing. Still nothing. I guess Aiden did say that it would probably take one to two minutes for the game to actually begin. At least, for the ones that approached you at the doors. I peeked behind me and saw the demon Freddy Fazbears on the bed. They screamed with a high pitch that almost sounded worse than nails on a chalkboard. They disappeared underneath the bed as soon the light touched them. This game seemed pretty easy. I wonder why when Aiden explained it to me, he made it seem so hard.
*****
It was four AM and I was honestly kicking this game's ass, if it even was still worthy of being called a game at this point. I checked behind the bed, expecting to see the mini demon Freddy Fazbears but didn't. I panicked for a split second before I remembered that Aiden told me that the game would change over at four AM and have only one animatronic called Nightmare. I heard a demonic laugh a moment later and rushed over to the door on the right. I opened it slightly and shined my flashlight down the hall. Nothing. I did the same thing with the left side. The only difference this time around was that I came face-to-face with a black mass with the sharpest teeth I think I've ever seen. I screamed and felt my heart stop. A moment later, I managed to force myself to move in order to close the door. I could hear and feel my heart pounding like crazy and I felt a sudden rush of adrenaline pulse through me as I opened the door a few moments to check and make sure that Nightmare was gone. He was, for now at least.
Closet, bed, left side, right side.
No, it wasn't the pattern in which he moved. Hell, this son of a bitch was so unpredictable. When he would laugh, I would think that he was in the closet. When he wasn't, I would check the bed. And when he wasn't there, that asshole was on the left or right side.
I glanced over at the alarm clock. It was five fifty-five. Only five more minutes of putting up with his bullshit.
He laughed once more and I ran over to the closet. And, of course, the assfucker wasn't there.
You know you're stressed as fuck when you use the term assfucker, Rin.
"God damn it, no." I said, running over to check the bed and finding out that he wasn't there. "I've got five minutes left. Can you just stop it with the bullshit?"
Left side. Nothing.
Right side. Nothing.
"What the actual fuck?" I yelled. "This is total bullshit!"
Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain running down my back. It was like someone had really sharp nails and were digging them as deeply and with as much force as they could muster into my flesh.
I let out a squeak of pain and through my tear-filled eyes, when I turned my head around, I could see that Nightmare was the one who was causing me this great agony.
"Please...stop..." I whispered, barely able to hear even my own voice. I fell to the ground when his claws exited my flesh. I felt blood running down my back. I also felt my head throbbing and the world was spinning all around me.
Before I even knew it, he had dug his nails into me once more. This time, it was my left leg. I didn't scream. I just sat there. I was going to die. There was no beating around the bush about it. This place would be my final place I would ever visit. This day will be my final day. And, worst of all, I let Aiden down. That fact alone was enough to make me cry the hardest I've ever cried in my entire life. I broke a promise I swore that I would follow through with. I allow my last thought to be of Aiden while I was still alive. But as life seeped away from me, he began to become out-of-focus.
And then he was completely gone, leaving me with just darkness and silence.
