Mark's pov
Jack amd I have gotten to know everyone quite well and visit Felix every now and then as he recovers. He was allowed to go out today with Russ and Cry for a hunting trip. I hope he doesn't hurt himself again. From what I've heard Felix is a magnet to danger.
"Hey Mark. How's Jack doing today?" Red asked cheerfully as I walked into the room.
"He's doing better. His fever has gone down a lot. Just getting him something for his head ache. Got any recommendations nurse?" I said with a smile. Red nodded, humming a song aloud as she searched through a cupboard and pulled out a small bottle.
"Here, there should be some pills in here that will help. Only give him one every four to five hours okay. Maybe two if the first one doesn't work but no more than that," Red said. I nodded as she threw the bottle to me. I caught is and put it in my pocket before saying my farewell and leaving.
I walked back to the far end of the camp, away from all the other houses people were in, where me and Jack lived. It was Jack's choice of house and he liked the look of it. Big rooms and a lot of space. The only downside it had was that the sun shone directly into the bedroom he had chosen each morning but it just gave him an excuse to sleep in my room with me.
I would just swap rooms but where's the fun in that and why would I want to deal with the light in the morning? Bonus! I get to wake up each morning with Jack in my arms. But not lately though. Jack has been sick all week and I've been taking care of him but if I share a bed with him I'll catch his diseases.
"Hey Marky," Jack said happily when I entered the door. He was leaning against the bench in the kitchen with a cup of coffee in his hands. You wouldn't think there was a zombie apocalypse going on with the way this guy lived. A coffee every morning, no milk. Just sugar, coffee and hot water. To him it was heaven.
"Hey Jacky, how you feeling?" I asked, giving him a quick peck on his check.
"I'm feeling a little better, still got that head ache though," He said, massaging his head with a free hand. I hummed and pulled out the bottle of pills, handing him two since I already knew he would need both.
"What's these for?" He questioned.
"Your headache silly. Red recommended them. Only take two every five hours or so," I explained. He nodded and a smirk tugged at his lips.
"Well if Red recommended them then I must take them," he joked before quickly taking the two pills. There was a knocking at the door and Jack gave me a quick glance before racing off to answer it.
I chuckled and followed behind him slowly. As I neared the front door I heard feminine voices and instantly knew who it was. I looked past Jack to see Minx and Krism standing in the doorway, kindly sharing a comments with Jack. I was glad they were getting along and being friends.
"Oh, Hey Mark. Did you hear the news?" Minx asked cheerfully.
"What news?" I asked, stepping up next to Jack.
"Cry came back with a baby fox cub. It's so cute. It seemed to love Felix a lot more than Cry though. We saw her when they got back. You should go see her. She's so cute," Krism fangirled. I'd never seen her this excited about something.
"Okay okay, we'll go and visit her later okay. Does she have a name?" I said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, Felix called her Ellie," Minx said, putting a hand on Krism's shoulder to calm her.
"That's a nice name. Can we go and see her now Mark?" Jack said, trying to hold back his excitement. I let out a content sigh, unable to say no to him.
"Alright. Go get changed though. You spilt coffee all over your shirt already," I said, pointing to the coffee spill that trailed down his shirt. He laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Opps, I'll be right back." He ran upstairs and came back less that two minutes later with a clean shirt. Living here has given us the opportunity to live a slightly normal life like before. We no longer have to wear the same clothes every day.
"I'm ready," He said, rushing past me and slipping on some shoes. I laughed again and slid my own shoes on. They were velcro so I didn't have to worry about laces or getting tripped up.
"Show us the way ladies," I saw, motioning Minx and Krism to go ahead. They smiled and started heading towards Cry and Felix's house. They were on the other side of the camp area but the walk was calming. We passed a few people here and there that were fixing things or relaxing, shaving a quick wave and a greeting.
"Where are you guys heading?" Russ asked as he approached us.
"We're going to see the little fox baby you guys brought back," Jack said excitedly.
"Careful. She bites like her mother," Russ said sarcastically.
"What happened to her mother anyway?" I decided to ask.
"Well ah, she kinda jumped out and tried to bite Cry's face off so I shot her. I had no idea she had a cub and Cry insisted we looked after her since her mother wasn't there to protect her," Russ said, rubbing his arm in embarrassment.
"Hey, it's fine dude. You didn't know. At least you brought her back to keep her safe," Jack said encouragingly. Russ smiled and nodded his head, heading into his house. Minx and Krism left to go talk to some of their friends and we continued to Cry and Felix's house.
The girls were right. Ellie is cute. She was snuggled up on Felix's lap as he stroked her fur. We ended up having a quiet conversation with the two of them until Jack let out a yawn and I decided to bring him back home to rest.
