Chapter 2: Cameron

Surprisingly, the salty drops did not pour down. My focus must be on survival, and to get moving.

Saying an farewell to the boy who is starting the journey, I padded off to find what water, a source that all living things must have.  Fighting off monsters won't let me survive. Food and water must be taken additional to be tested by fighting skills. Also from the text books and classes, I know some wisdom that humans need water within three days while without food lasts one week.  Water must be found before I leap into a battle addition to a full stomach.

Where trees grow, there's always water. That's what my Survival Class teacher (yes, Bellicor decided we need these stupid classes) Mr.Brown repeated every day. Now, I appreciate though I used to hate his fish-like lips pronouncing every phonic sound wrong. I owed him one. Thank you Mr.Fish Lips. Thank you.

I walked searching for clean drinkable water. The starry sky shined peacefully more visible than my city home. Speckles of light made an small path that I have never seen so clearly. I just wished this was an vacation instead of a journey. The Milky Way made me think of Melody, she would live this—

Soon, I was lucky enough to find a palm tree that had good looking healthy green leaves. It was a sign that there is pure water here. I made an relieved sigh that King Enzo did not  suggest to make survival harder by cutting short of the water source. Placing my hand on the palm tree that was pale and cold from night, I looked around for any sign of small rivers or streams.

"A stream....a STREAM!" I dashed to a small water source that was running silently heading for the open sea. It was small, clear, and perfect. I have found an drinkable liquid for me which is an first step for increasing my survival percentage. I almost cried of happiness when gobbling up the liquid almost choking. Perhaps surviving isn't that hard after all.

No, I mustn't think that, Nichol died here. The strong mighty brother.

Shaking my thoughts away I focused on taking things for to sleep for the night.  This stream is a perfect place to make my camp, so I decided to make shelter here. This place is swarming  with trees that can be a source for collecting wood. Another thanks to Mr.Fish Lips cause he taught me how to create fire with branches.

Warmth spread through my body as the flames rose. The fire was warm as it glowed bright red being a small sun of night. It was strange that this small fire will keep poisonous snakes away. I listened to the flickering fire my eyes only fixed on the flames.

I ate a sandwich that was packed and took out my blanket that was brought. I organized my belongings putting away the things I did not need. Soon, the warmth made me drowsy as I snored to sleep.

**************************************

I have now know the true definition of waking up with a start.

"Fire incoming!" A yowl that interrupted from my peaceful dreams. I found myself laying down a feet close to a big orange round blob that summoned blazing heat. The mysterious thing had two claw likes points up securing the orange circle. Without thinking I rolled side ways as the burst of fire blasted just a few inch from my hair.

The fire breathing creature turned out to be a dragon; massive wings, big body, spiky tail, and fire breathing ability. It was bigger than the palm tree that made me stumble y fear. I reached for my sword—Dang it I packed it in my backpack.

"Where's your sword?" A high pitched voice hissed that awoke me. She was quite small for a twelve year old that had elegant purple dyed hair with the most beautiful blue eyes. Her perfect face reflected in my eyes as each detail carved in my memory. She has an strong, back that was well trained. Although her great beauty, the hiss was like an adder ready to poison its prey. (BTW I am not falling in love.)

"Uh, in my backpack?" I managed a crooked smile that got the girl hiss again. She groaned and dodged a orange flame that the dragon breathed. Her shiny sword was held up high ready to strike.

"If you don't want to die never let your sword out of reach." She said while making an unbelievable high jump and landed on the red scaled dragon's back. The dragon roared as it tried to burn her down ready to blow fire on the purple haired girl.

But the girl was faster, she swiftly dodged the attack jumping on the dragon's massive head. In a second, she sliced her sword on the monster's neck as it made a final roar and limp dead.

"Wow." I breathed. The girl didn't have a scratch or burn keeping the beauty still. She did an quick multiple air flip landing in front of me her eyes meeting my gaze.

"Newcomer aren't you? A foolish one." She growled as I looked up in her sword arm that was clenched as if planning to strike my throat.

Despite my fear I managed to speak. "I came here yesterday. What is your name?" I asked as sweat poured down my forehead. The girl hissed once more.

"If you want names, you have to introduce yourself first!"

"Okay! Okay! Chill girl. I'm Cameron Russell , you can call me Cam." I did what the fierce girl instructed as I backed away few foot steps.

"I'm Luna." Luna stopped her hostile glare but answered cooly. "If you want to survive, you have to do better than that. You were more hopeless than an eight year old."Luna snorted pleasured of herself. This girl has self confidence, an bragger.

"What eight year old? You mean the dragon?" I asked politely trying to maintain Luna's temper. Though, I can't predict that it could get worse than this.

"No. Me you idiot! I am Luna Chambers an eight year old here in Island of Destiny to prove myself worthy." Luna Chambers introduced her chest held up high full of confidence. She's an eight year old? Why would any parent want risk their child getting killed? And I feel like I heard 'Chamber' before...

"You," The memory gave connection to one men that is well known. "Your Princess Luna Daughter of King Enzo!" I exclaimed finally knowing the strange conditions for Luna.

"That's right. Father expects very high from me so he send me on my eighth birthday. After all, he made no rule that children under age twelve can't go to the Island of Destiny."  Luna made an smile that looked like she was looking down at me like trash. I guess cruel confidence is passed down by blood.

Luna hissed once more as she plucked some of the dragon's huge scales (poor dragon). "Have you thought surviving the Island of Destiny is easy? That's wrong, this island is created to eliminate at least one out of twenty." She said as she finished collecting the scales. I remembered that dragon scales have the power to strength up your status as I rushed over to pluck them out too.

"One out of ten? Your kidding right?" I asked walking towards her and she bumped in my right ankle with her foot that made me fall on my butt. I was grateful that this place was a bay because falling on a hard floor would've made me in pain.

"I'm not kidding." Luna scoffed as she made a slight giggle noticing that I fell on my butt. "Monsters, disasters, and survival isn't the only thing in the Island of Destiny." She rolled her eyes as if that's common sense. What can possibly be added apart from the three dangers that eliminate nineteen children out of twenty? Luna continued on as she started to polish her silver sword that had blood markings of dragon blood.

"The Trial of Death of course. Every week, the Trial of Death is held with approximately ten children. All of them fight to death and the last two standing gets to live on, not considering the monsters and all." The daughter of King Enzo said lazy as she wiped the last splotch of blood. That means, no, how can I survive by that? Nichol did not survive, how can a weakling like me live?

"Can't we avoid the trial? At least escape from it?" My voice shook as each word almost lost it's sound. The elegant purple hair swooshed as Luna faced me and smirked,

"Nah, the guys who holds the trials, the Shadow Hunters make a list so each children attend one trial. If the child didn't show up, they get hunted down by them and die in the most painful way." The princess explained. "They make a list every week who gets to come for their trial. Shadow Hunters' job is to make children attend to at least one trial before they leave. That's just how it goes, if you wish to live on."

I panicked, the Island of Destiny was more than just surviving, it was a place where challengers death is an inch close to them. "Than my chance of survival..." My voice wobbled helplessly to Luna. It would have been weird to turn helpless in front of an eight year old girl but things were different now. Now and forever.

"We only have five percent of surviving, I'm going to die!"

Luna gazed at me her eyes still cold and skinny, but now I thought they were brave. Courage, determination, and bravery was what described Luna now. An eight year old girl not fearing her own death. "That's what I said just few moments ago. Whether you think father is cruel or not, only your skills and courage will keep you alive."

Luna spat as she walked towards the endless jungle along side the river. I was in shock, as my hands froze from plucking the dragon's scales.

My day ended without anymore monsters coming to murder me. Food was gathered well and water has been drunk. But I wasn't grateful, my mind was only thinking about my own future. Death.

Hey guys thank you to all of you who are reading my book. If you think a chapter is well written and enjoyed it, please give votes and comments and tips for next time.

In one of Luna's fierce words, there was a part saying, "If you want names, you have to introduce yourself first!" I was reading Naruto you see, and I saw a part where Sasuke (a character who's always acting cool) said that. I thought that was an great words for Luna.
