Chapter 14: Skylar
Ack I just threw myself in a ninety-nine death percent fight to death match. Checking the other fighting survivors, I think they are too busy to help me out.
But I still know I have to fight, with all the experiences in the Island of Destiny, I would never want anyone else to go here. I know friends who has a later birthday than me, and I would never want them to go here. So if Luna, or Luna who was really Princess Valentina's claim wasn't true, her dad can make Bellicor a whole better place and get rid of this island.
And also, another reason I threw myself into this fight was because I wanted to do something meaningful. Fighting to kick King Enzo out of the thrown is one meaningful thing to do, but I threw myself into this fight to save Cam. And saving a crush is a meaningful thing to me, if I hadn't saved him I would be regretting once more. But I hadn't, and I was proud.
Being proud doesn't automatically defeat the Shadow Hunter so I charged.
He blocked.
I painted, glaring. Every time I charged at these mysterious fighters, they never attack...they only defend. And when the survivor they are facing gets weaker and weaker by loss of energy, they kill. I saw that process in two survivors, and I couldn't figure out why they would do that. A skilled hunter like them can easily kill more of the survivors if they start attacking.
My eyes and the Shadow Hunter's met. They were red, fierce cold red. I had an idea.
I charged once more aiming for the Shadow Hunter's knife holding elbow. Expected, the Shadow Hunter blocked my attack with his knife. His arms bent the opposite direction where arms bent. He couldn't have done that without breaking his arm bone, but the Shadow Hunter shoved my katana away with his knife.
I had one estimation, the Shadow Hunter's were robots.
Robots must be programmed to do something. If my estimate is true, the Shadow Hunter robots were programmed to defend all attacks so they wouldn't get hurt. And each Shadow Hunter has different height, voice, appearances, that looks/sounds like real humans. But even with science today, it takes too much capacity to have a program to attack and defend during fighting.
These Shadow Hunter's are not used to fight, they're to protect someone. And they must be protecting King Enzo and only must stop the survivors who are after his neck.
Therefore, the Shadow Hunter's are to buy some time for King Enzo to escape. And that means fighting these guys is a trap that King Enzo created.
I searched my brain to every movement the Shadow Hunter's did. Appearing and disappearing all the sudden. It would make sense if they were robots. And attacking when King Enzo told them to without showing any refuse; they were like puppets to the king.
Fighting robots, what a island I came into. And how did King Enzo create them? These curiosity questions can be answered later. Princess Valentina made it clear this small war we began's goal is to kick King Enzo off the throne. She never said to kill the king's robot guards.
Two simple options I came up with. One, destroy the Shadow Hunters. Or two, find out how the robots are controlled and destroy it.
I guess one would have work if I was stronger, but looking at the whole battle field, out of five Shadow Hunters, fiber were still standing. Plan two sounds like the best shot. I ran away from the Shadow Hunter, towards where Princess Valentina chases King Enzo. My best guess is that King Enzo has something that controls the Shadow Hunters.
Than I came up with one more question: How did King Enzo get hands to high tech?
So many questions I want answers for. But right now, I needed to survive, and save Bellicor. I put my life on the gambling table to have a half chance on kicking King Enzo out of the throne. I ran, with all my mite, away from the Shadow Hunter, the path Luna has gone.
Why running away from the Shadow Hunter was a risk? I was trained before coming to the Island of Destiny. Everyone, including my parents, knew how dangerous it was, possibly having me and my sister's lives stolen. They felt pity moving here, putting their two daughters' at risk. They done everything they could to rise our chance of survival. My dad taught me sword arts, and my mother put me in every fighting class she could get hands to. But it was the same for everyone. All of my classmates trained everyday at school or somewhere else. Bullying wasn't rare, but after school, not everyone had a play date once a weak with their fellow friends.
School and training. At half of the day I was in school studying, but most of my afternoon time was spent on training. We had no homework to worry for. This life routine was normal in Bellicor for a child in elementary. And that's why, Luna, or Princess Valentina, was too much of a surprise.
So from my fighting classes and training, I knew it was a risk to put my back against a killer.
With the quickest turn, I climbed up the stairs, threw open exit doors. King Enzo must have been at panic since few of his sparkly worthy jewelry was left on his trail. I ran and ran with death behind my heels. How far was Princess Valentina and King Enzo? But if my estimate was true, my tenacity can save many survivors lives. Though I had to admit, I wasn't confident.
I heard loud clacking of metal that echoed down the fancy hallway. I heard rage of screams ahead. Princess Valentina!
With desperate steps, I ran faster as Princess Valentina was in's sight. King Enzo wasn't there and the princess was struggling kicking off the Shadow Hunter off.
"Princess Valentina—,"
Just when my voice was about to be reached, my shoulder was stabbed, pain rippling through my body.
I crumbled down to the earth. Pain screeched as my hands felt the cold blood of mine. Someone drew the knife out of my flesh as more pain made my lungs screech. Princess Valentina must've realized since she quickly ran towards me. My sight was getting blurry, but I couldn't give up yet.
"Luna!" I yelled like a dying wolf. (And it's true I was about to faint) Maybe my brain got weird because ai accidentally called her 'Luna'. I guess Princess Valentina is longer to say since it's like—you know what I'm gonna stop thinking something worthless.
"What is it Skylar? First we need to get out of here and I'll tweet you and, I,"
"No, just listen. Don't attack the Shadow Hunters. They're not made for fighting, they're just used to make time for King Enzo to flee.I have no idea what kind of mess I jumped into today, but if it's really important to you, please accomplish it." My lungs got tightened. I was about to slump into sleep, fainting to be exact. Or dying, it was a possibility. But either way the Shadow Hunter would probably finish me off.
"Stupidity." Princess Valentina muttered. She raised my body up with her short arms and put me in her back. "What kind of good will it do if the citizens of Bellicor die easily on me?"
That's the last word I heard, before I went into sleep, or faint, or die.
