Chapter 4

When the hatch opened, we were met by a hot gust of sandy air. It stung my eyes, but I quickly adjusted to it. We closed the hatch and payed a few droids to clean it up. The marketplace area was crowded and we had to push past people slowly. I held onto Cassian's arm so I wouldn't get separated from him. He had purchased a lighter jacket that covered his face. I wore a hooded jacket as well.

"Hungry?" He asked. "No, not really," I responded, adjusting the strap of a bag full of our belongings. It was very easy to blend in. Everyone kept their heads down. For a while, it was calm. It wasn't until someone grabbed my arm that everything started to get messy. It was an Arcona with a long cloak on. "Excuse me," I said, attempting to push past him. He spoke in a language I didn't recognize. Cassian had kept walking until he realized I wasn't besides him. He turned, seeing me with the Arcona.

"Hey, we aren't here to buy anything else," Cassian explained, pulling the Arcona's hand off of me. Some others grabbed onto me, trying to pull off my bag and search me. Then the air started to get stale and a wind blew my hair. One of them yelled in fear and they all ran. "What's going on?" I shouted over the fleeing people. Another person grabbed me by the shoulder and I instantly aimed my gun at them. It was a teenage boy with brown blonde hair. "Whoa, you can put that down. You guys aren't from Tatooine, are you?" He questioned. I shook my head. "Please come with me. A sandstorm is approaching and believe me, you don't want to get caught up in one of those," he explained.

We followed him towards a group of speeders. "Take one," he said, getting on one. He placed goggles around his head and onto his eyes. Then he tossed a pair to us. "Do you want me to steer?" Cassian asked, taking the pair into his hands. "I'm perfectly capable of steering it myself," I responded, confidently. "Then you'll need these," he replied, putting the goggles around my head. I started up the speeder. "What about you?" I asked. "I'll be fine," he responded. The speeder jerked forward and then began to glide over the sandy terrain. I followed the teenager to a large pit. Not a pit, but a house. "It's a moisture farming location," Cassian shouted. I could barely hear him. I just nodded and got off the speeder.

We ran inside a simple domed house. 2 older people stood up as the door closed. The woman ran over to the teenager and hugged him. "The storm is brutal, isn't it?" She asked him. He pulled out of her embrace and nodded. "These two outsiders were getting hustled by some of the gangs," he explained. I'm sure we didn't look too attractive. I had sand in my hair and clothing. Cassian had sand in his eyes and kept rubbing them. "A...Alright. I'm sure they can stay for now. As long as they aren't Imperials," she said. "We're not. We actually sent the Death Star plans to the rebellion. We're kind of with the rebellion," I explained. "Wow! That's cool! Can you fly an X-Wing?!" The teenager exclaimed excitedly. "Um no. We're not exactly pilots," I stuttered. "Oh. Well that's pretty cool anyways. Rebels!" The teenager grinned.

"We have an extra guest room. It only has one bed. I hope that's alright," the lady said. "No that's fine. Thank you," Cassian replied. "There's a sink over there if you'd like to get the sand out of your eyes, son," the man said. Cassian nodded and walked over to the sink. "Jyn Erso," I introduced myself to them, shaking their hands. "I'm Owen and this is Beru," the man said. His wife nodded. Then she tapped the teenager on the shoulder. "Sorry!" He exclaimed. He shook my hand quickly. "Luke...Luke Skywalker," he responded. "Skywalker?" I heard Cassian say. He rubbed his red eyes. "That's me," Luke exclaimed. "Cassian Andor," he said. Luke nodded. "Room is down the hall," he said. We walked down the hall. The bed was small and had a thin blanket. I kept the blanket from the ship and folded it on the edge of the bed. "You can sleep on the bed, Jyn," Cassian said. "Are you sure?" I asked, concerned. "I'm perfectly fine," he responded. "So why were you so surprised when he said Skywalker?" I questioned. "Anakin Skywalker was a famous Clone Wars Jedi and pilot," he explained, sitting next to me on the bed.

He leaned against me and I put my head on top of his. "Oh, so this is his son..." I replied. "I believe so," he said. Luke poked his head in. "Dinner's ready," he announced. "Thank you, Luke," I said. He smiled and walked away. "How is it?" I asked, lightly touching his wound with my hand. "It's fine," he replied, wincing. "But I feel that it was worth it. We delivered the plans, the war will be over soon," he continued. I stood up and helped him up as well. I helped him as he limped towards the dinner table. "Are you alright?" Luke exclaimed, jumping up. "Fine," Cassian replied, sitting down. I sat besides him. "What happened?!" Luke asked, sitting back down to eat. "You can't just walk into a highly protected Imperial Base and steal the plans. We lost our entire team due to our fight. But we did transmit the plans. I had climbed up this tall tower full of information and grabbed it. A Imperial officer, Admiral Krennic, had found us climbing it. Cassian protected me," I explained.

Cassian nodded slightly before eating the food silently. Luke sat in front of us, mouth gaping. "Luke, honey. Manners," the lady said. "But Uncle Owen knows of the Empire! He knew Jedi when he was younger!" Luke said. "I did once," Uncle Owen responded. I grinned and thought off Chirrut Imwe. The food was delicious and after dinner, I helped Luke's aunt wash the dishes. "Thank you, sweetie. Have a nice night," she said. Finally, when Luke stopped asking us questions about the war and the planets we had been to, Cassian and I retreated to our bedroom. I closed the door and he rolled his jacket on the ground as a pillow. I passed him the blanket I had folded and then turned off the lights. It was silent for a little while.

"Isn't it uncomfortable down there?" I asked him later on. "A bit, but I'm fine," he responded. "There's room for you," I said. "No, I'll stay here for the night," he said. But as the night went on, I could barely sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw everyone we lost. I finally was able to sleep for a few minutes, but then awoke with a start. "Jyn," I heard him say. He had sat up and was looking at me. Then he hoisted himself up into the small bed. I didn't care that it was too small. Him besides me allowed me to sleep for the rest of the night.
