Chapter 12/13 ~ One By One/Saved
Of course, being a lookout had its flaws. I didn't have any days of, and wasn't able to get distracted by anything for two reasons. The only thing that I could see was nature, and occasionally the guys, when they passed by outside. I groaned and slid my hand down my face.
"Looks like someone isn't happy..."
I heard chuckling and felt someone sit down next to me. I didn't see who it was until I saw the bright red leather jacket.
"Vanoss..."
I surprised myself with the amount of hatred and venom I spat that name, avoiding his real one. He seemed to be shocked as well.
"Look, dude..."
He rubbed the back of his neck nervously, making eye contact with the ground. Did he think all of it was gonna blow over just because he didn't speak to me for a few days? Boy was he wrong....
"I wanted to say sorry..."
Instantly my anger evaporated and I had a very confused expression on my face and tilted my head to the side. He wanted to apologise? Since when?! I just groaned and turned to face the horizon.
"Im sorry I yelled at you, Mini, Im sorry I tried to kill you-"
My attention wasn't on him, but the horizon, my eyes widened when I saw green smoke rising life a bonfire.
"-and for-"
I didn't let him finish before grabbing him and dragging him downwards.
"Do you have a safety bunker?"
He looked confused at the question but merely nodded.
"Take every one down there."
"But-"
"NOW!"
His expression turned to anger. I figured he was the hot headed one.
"IF YOU DON'T WANNA DIE, GET TO THE BUNKER!"
His eyes widened at my shout and all of the other boys rushed outside to watch what was happening. I didn't notice my tight grip on Evan's arm and my annoyed expression on my face.
"Just do what I said!"
All of them were confused now.
"Marcel, come here, the rest of you follow Evan."
Marcel awkwardly walked up to me, hands in his pockets, smiling strangely.
Evan sighed and grabbed Tyler's and Jon's arms before walking into the base, Tyler turned to me giving me an expression of wanting an explanation later. Before the others went, I told them something.
"Get as much of your supplies as possible and follow Evan, because if you are not in the bunker in the next 30 minutes, you will die."
All of their eyes widened and Brock started to form random sentences.
"But wha- How? Whaa-?"
He was spluttering and Brian was doing the same, Lui stared at me with worry and seriousness before grabbing both of the confused males, and walking back, followed by David.
"Why do you want me, Craig?"
"I need your help. You care for these guys, right?"
"Yes?"
"Well if they are not in the bunker in half an hour, they will be dead."
His body tensed and he looked alarmed.
"WHAT?! HOW?!"
I put my hands on his shoulders to calm him down. He was shaking all over.
"S-So what d-do you want me t-to do?"
"Make sure they are safe in the bunker."
He grabbed onto my hand and pulled me into a bone crushing hug.
"You, sir, a-are NOT s-staying out h-here!"
He sniffled and buried his head into my shoulder. I saw all the boys walk out and look at us strangely.
'Help Me'
I mouthed, hoping one of them actually will, but instead, all of them burst out laughing except Tyler and Evan. They both smiled and chuckled. I pouted and out of the corner of my eye saw Tyler smiling at the ground. Huh? Okay.....
Finally, Brock managed to pull Marcel from me, but everyone was surprised at Marcel's expression, he was crying. Before anything else happened, he tackled me again and I fell. I just realised that he was reacting in such a dramatic way, because he loves me. Shit, I chose the wrong person.
"Marcel, let go, please...."
"NO!"
Everyone was forming a small circle around the both of us. I tried my best annoyed, yet concerned look. One thing was strange that some of them looked like they were about to rip Marcel to shreds, especially Tyler.
I pried my hand out of Marcel's grasp and Brock threw his arm over his shoulder for support as the sobbing Marcel was walked back into the house.
"What was that all about?"
"Well, he didn't want me staying out here while you guys were in the bunker..."
"Why is he so worried about you staying out here? What's so dangerous?"
I bit my lip and pulled on my hoodie sleeves. Tyler looked at me with a mixed expression.
"Because...."
"Because what?"
I took a deep breath and looked at Evan.
"The Hunters are coming....."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No further questions were asked after that statement. I climbed back to the top of my camp place and work area before looking at the green, toxic mist that was looking much more radioactive and I swear it got closer that it was a few minutes ago. I'm going to have to fight them. A weird feeling bubbled in my chest. Suddenly, Night, Ice and the rest of them joined me. I forgot about them.... Dammit.
'Night you have t-'
'I know....'
I just sighed and slumped my shoulders. Ghost nuzzled me. I have never felt more nervous in my life. I'm the only one here who could fight them.... Because I was immune. I swore to myself for the millionth time. This wasn't a blessing, nor a curse. The green mist was practically here, and I shakily stood up, Ghost helping me. I took out my favourite knife. I know how the Hunter plays it's games. If you try to shoot, you die before you could blink. If you play stealthy, and listen to its groans, you might just make it. Why did this have to happen now? Why with me? All because the government funded a new base called 'E-Day.' I grit my teeth. Because of E-Day, this is what the world turned into. Not long ago, they found a virus called 'Millennium'. It means 'Forever', in another language, or a million years, something like that. They were testing it on humans, when suddenly, all of the power had a connection error. Nothing worked and the 'Subjects' got out. This is what 'Millennium' does to you, infects your body with a critical virus and makes your skill decay, causing for a greenish/blackish effect, hair and teeth fall out and 80% of the time you become blind. You mind stops working, making your body lack all of the every-day needs, hygiene, food, water, care, sleep.... To me, i feels disrespectful to call them zombies. They WERE once human after all.....
It wasn't until about 5 months ago, when the virus developed immensely. Not only infecting people, but making different kinds of horrible, twisted creations it wanted. The Hunter, like I said, was one of the new ones, and the most dangerous. The less threatening example would be the clickers, because their only working sense is sound. They make clicking noises to orientate and track down prey.
The Hunter was basically a copy of the rake, but the skin was a light blue, the kind you see on dead people in the morgue. For some reason, only people who wore hoodies turned to hunters once infected. It made me uncomfortable knowing that I'm wearing one, but I was immune... Right?
~~~
I silently hid behind a pile of broken down concrete. The green mist was engulfing the whole camp, making it harder to see through it farther that 8 feet in front of me. Luckily, I was being smart, earlier, I took a scope off of one of the sniper rifles and taped it to my left hand, making it as a one-sided binocular glass lens. I squinted through the smoke, trying to inhale as less as possible of the gas. A normal human would have died by inhaling it, or, if they were extremely lucky, only get infected. I heard rapid, hot breaths on the other side of my neck. I suddenly jerked forward and to the left, avoiding the claws that were dug deep into the space on the rock where I was mere seconds ago. While the thing was distracted, I silently climbed over to a different type of cover that was provided. The thing fell on its back one he pulled with enough strength to get himself free. I moved carefully, not alerting the infected sat confused in the middle of the smoke, just as I looked through the scope, I felt a sharp stinging sensation and it suddenly felt warm on my arm where it stung just a moment ago, then the warm sensation started spreading, spreading with the pain as well. I just realised what happened before yet another sharp sensation pressed against my chest, I needed to move. I found the perfect moment and rolled over, managing to get through the entrance of the base and into the shrubbery. As soon as I stopped moving, all of the pain in the warm sensations appeared and it hurt like hell itself. The warm sensation was my blood. Shit.....
I grabbed my left arm in my right and rubbed it up and down before keeping it there. I stood up, seeing the Hunter in the middle with closed eyes, confused. I somehow managed my way up the tree and had to take a moment to breathe. It was difficult because of the two wounds. I crawled up the branch, lowering myself. I managed to slice down the creature's neck as it pulled back, making my knife slide further down its body, going down until it reached the small of his back. The creature let our a loud hiss before black liquid oozed out of the wound. The blackish blood had a tint of red in it.
It looked back up at me with a pained expression, before twisting it into an evil smirk. He jumped up onto my branch, cornering me, well, sort of. I was on the very edge of the branch. Just as I thought it was going to snap, the creature lunged at me, twisting in the air from the unexpected shaking of the branch when it jumped, making it miss me by just a millimetre and making it fall on the ground. It lay still, some blood oozing out of it. These creatures were smart, so was I. He was playing dead, but at the moment I didn't care, I needed to get him while he was vulnerable. I hissed as I jumped down, afraid to waist any time. Just as I was about to attack, the creature pounced on me. I fell back, hitting my head on the concrete. Just as it was getting ready to give the final blow, a shout took us both by surprise.
"HEY YOU!"
There was someone standing in a gas mask, pointing a rifle at the creature. The creature got distracted and leaped off me, he made the decision of thinking that I was too weak to move. Wrong. I gathered the last bit of my energy, and tried to stand up. Suddenly a voice fuzzed through my head...
'Craig, don't give up... not now... you can't...'
'Mom....?'
'...'
'What?'
I tried standing up. Fail. My chest couldn't get enough oxygen in before it started hurting again. I gripped my arm, trying again. Fail. Come on.. Please.... Fail.
'Craig.... I'm begging you. You promised...'
The voice sounded mixed between being disappointed and begging.
'Mom?!'
My eyes widened as my hand slipped, making me fall on my back and cringe. I took the deepest breath I could, pulling myself up slowly...
Success.
As I regained my footing, I saw the Hunted was pinning the guy with the gas mask to the ground, choking him and raising his claws. I panicked. Oh, what the hell do I do?! I looked around nervously.
'Was all that mind training for nothing?'
The voice somehow made me re think the situation. I took as much air as possible into my lungs, breathing out. Suddenly, the world turned a light shade of blue. I walked up behind the hunter and came out of my slow motion state. I slashed at its neck with my knife, sending dark red and black goo every where. The Hunter stayed frozen for a second, before dropping on top of the guy being pinned. He quickly pushed the corpse off him before standing up. He was definitely tall. I smiled shakily before my vision wobbled slightly and I stumbled, his hands caught me and pressed me against him. Black clouded my vision, the last thing I remember was seeing the smoke clear and Tyler's face appear from under the gas mask as he carried me bridal style into the closed off area of the base.
