Chapter 21

I could feel the smell of the roasted meat teasing me as its aroma flowed in my nostrils, I looked at it for another second and decided to eat it after all I wasn't to suffer from hunger just because of my pride.

I ate it and picked up my water bottle as I felt my dried throat itch with thirst, the purple reflection of the water bottle making the water itself seem purple as I lifted it up to drink.

The water falling down my throat felt cold and sweet as it flowed down from the bottle, I could feel the cold liquid spreading through my body as I continued to drink.

I knew I needed to keep some for later, but it felt so good, as if my body was coming back to life.

For some strange reason water always seemed to be the one thing that made me calm down so that I could think rationally, but this time it didn't actually work like usual, I still felt strange after drinking, as if I was controlling my movements, but I was still an outsider in my own body, my hand moved but I was a spectator of it, I wasn't the one living it.

It had happened a few years ago, but since then I had lived without experiencing it. The last time I had been walking in the forest and it had happened suddenly the air had become heavier as I breathed and all the sudden, I was looking at my hands, except they weren't truly my hands or at least they didn't feel like mine.

The strange feeling had lasted approximately two days during which I had gone back home and had pretended like everything was fine.

No one ever realized it except for the voice in my head whispering "drink, swim, do something!" I didn't understand what it wanted, but I still listened and did what it ask.

That day, I almost drowned as the other kids had followed me while I made my way to the lake, I hadn't realized at that time that they had followed me while I was immersing myself in the water trying to go back to my normal state.

I had tried turning into my wolf form during that period, but it hadn't work. I felt so strange and so uncomfortable in that state that I was ready to do anything to get back to normal, even listening to the voice in my head.

The lake had always been the one place in the village where I felt safe, the one place that actually felt like home, it had been my refuge, my secret, for so long I never thought anyone other than me would even know about it.

After all, it wasn't in plain sight, one had to search for it to find it, or in this case, follow someone who knew about it to be able to access it. It was hidden behind the forest in a strange cave underneath another bigger lake that had dried over a decade ago, I had tried to explore the area multiple times before being able to actually access the cave.

It was located north of the dried lake, my younger self had stumbled upon a few gems in the area after digging for a few days.

A person who would just walk in that area wouldn't be able to find or even see the cave, the one thing that would give it away, like it did for me, was a small gem reflecting the sun when it was hit by it in a certain angle.

I had found a way after a few weeks to dig up a small passage only a child could pass through, if I attempted to fit in it today my first half would probably get stuck.

I had collected a few gems that resided in the lake that was inside the cave and placed them on the shore of the lake, after a while they created a rainbow reflection on the surface of the lake, it would amuse me as a child to see my hair change colors slightly with the reflection of the gems. It had become my second home and my refuge as the other kids of the village used to hurt me and refused to leave me alone.

I had never brought my sister to that place as the other kids seemed to accept her more, she was older, therefore probably making her more dangerous in their eyes.

They had tried to mock her once and her only reply had been "try to hurt me and Dewas will destroy your entire family". Apparently, she already knew her worth as two years later she had been able to achieve the dream of a lifetime, becoming an aristocrat.

That day however, I hadn't checked behind me properly as I felt disoriented and strange, I had accessed the cave like usual, by crawling down the hole and pushed a leaf I had put in the entrance to make it look like a sort of door.

I can remember my body relaxing at the sight of the water as I knew it would help me come back to my normal state. What I hadn't expected was for the other kids to follow me down the path and to prevent me from accessing the water and instead pulling me back out of the tunnel and beating me until I fell unconscious.

When I woke up, I founded myself to be in the abandoned barn that hadn't been used in years due to the amount of mold that the walls accumulated along the years, they had tried to take it off, but for some odd reason, they didn't seem to be capable of taking it off without it growing back in a few days.

The walls still smelled like humidity, and they were still covered in brown and green mold as my gaze drifted across the barn to try to understand what situation I was in, after all, it wasn't the first time the kids had locked me in a strange place.

It was however, the first time I had smelled smoke in such a situation, it filled my lungs as I started coughing and standing up to try to find an exit.

I smelt the smoke coming from the fire before seeing it, the smoke danced on the wooden floor as the fire licked everything it touched.

I don't remember feeling the fire touch my skin, but I do remember the smoke playing around my ankles as it covered the floor of it ethereal look.

I don't know how I actually got out of that barn, but I do remember the crashing sound I had assumed was the barn falling down upon me as I felt two cold hands pulling me out of the burning, I could feel my body losing control as it tried to protect itself by realizing aura.

The only thing I saw before losing consciousness were the eyes of the person who was pulling me out of the barn, they were of an ocean blue like color, the blue was mixed with grey as I could see worry feel the eyes of the person.

I felt an urge to reach out and tell that person that everything was going to be okay as I felt my mind getting covered with fog. The memory of the eyes of that person stayed with me for many years before they drifted out of my mind, the colors of his eyes seemed to play with each other, taunting each other to see who could take more place in the iris of their owner.

Although it had seemed like a dream, I had been obsessed with that combination of color ever since. The feeling of my mind being unable to focus made me remember that time, I hadn't been able to access the water, but after waking up and realizing the person that had saved my life had left, I had also realized that my mind had once again gone back to its original state of consciousness.
