"Louis won't stop humming!"
"Louis won't put his shoe on!"
"Louis took a button from the box!"
This and hundreds of other phrases were screeched to his mother every day.
Y/n ever since he was little was babysat by Louis's mother, their next door neighbor. And Louis, only two years older, hated it. Y/n first came over at age three when he started learning sentences and started learning about tattling. Louis of course was the victim to this learned habit.
"Louis stuck his tongue out at me!"
"Louis won't sit in his chair properly!"
For years it went on like this. And don't get the story twisted, y/n loved Louis. Y/n idoled Louis. He would go big eyed when Louis would come home from school. Y/n was still young enough to be taught at home but Louis being older started to go to elementary school. But with this idoling came high expectations, which is why y/n was so quick to comment on Louis's every move.
"Louis!" The boy squealed as the front door creaked open.
"Hey baby how was school?" His mother asked as she pressed the laundry basket to her hip.
"It was good. I read a book today. Teacher said I was one of the best readers in class."
"Awesome baby!"
"Of course Louis is! He's the smartest kid I've ever met!"
"Well that's very sweet y/n! Say thank you Louis!"
"Thanks." Louis grumbled which pulled y/ns smile to a frown.
"Louis!" The boy started as Louis walked to his room.
"What?" Louis asked sighing.
"Will you read me a book?"
"Can't. I have homework."
"But Louis-"
"Louis!" Y/n shouted as he clomped up the stairs.
"What?"
"Your mom wants you to do the dishes."
"So you're just her messenger boy now or something?" Louis scoffed
To say Louis became an angsty and rude teen would be an under statement. But despite how he grew up to be he still couldn't get rid of y/n. Y/n held on no matter what. He just couldn't stop loving Louis.
"No." Y/n said as he stiffened. "She just wanted me to tell you. I'm not going to disobey her, that's rude."
"Well you can tell my mom, that I don't care. And if you disobey, that's rude." Louis glared and then flipped over onto his stomach so he didn't have to look at y/n.
Y/n just sighed and walked out of the room defeated.
"Y/n?" Louis knocked on the slightly open door.
"What?" Y/n grumbled as he picked up a black shirt from the floor.
"What are you doing?"
"Cleaning." Y/n was definitely upset.
"Why?"
"Because unlike you I actually help around here. Unlike you I actually care about other people and unlike you I actually do kind things." Y/n shouted, slamming a pencil down onto the desk.
"Damn... what's got you in a mood?"
"You!"
"Me? Why?"
"Because you're so rude. You're dismissive and abrasive. Your so cold and you don't do anything anyone practically begs you to do. You don't give anyone the same amount of respect they give you and god forbid anyone actually calls you out on your shit! You're such a dick!"
Louis had never been spoken to like that. And he knew if anyone else had talked to him like that there would be fist to face contact. But when y/n said it, it genuinely hurt. It made Louis actually rethink how he'd been acting.
"I-I didn't know you felt that way about me."
"I don't! Not... all the time... but sometimes I do." Y/n huffed and sat down "I don't know. I've always idoled you. I've always seen the good in you and hoped for the best but everytime you do something that hurts your image it hurts me. It makes me feel weird. My stomach gets all shaky and my eyes sting."
"You mean you want to cry?"
"I guess. But I don't know why."
"Because i disappointed you."
Y/n looked down and Louis kneeled in front of him. Louis tried to look him in the eyes but it didn't go as well as he hoped.
"Look y/n... look at me." Louis pushed y/ns chin to look at him. "I'm sorry I make you feel bad. And I'm sorry I'm not everything you hoped. I guess I'm just angry and sad all the time and I take it out on people. You and others don't deserve that. But especially you. You've always had faith in me and kept going. Hell, I've literally lost every other friend I have... all but you."
"I'm sorry I'm so clingy." A year fell from y/ns face
"Don't be. I guess I kinda need clingy." Louis wiped the tear from his cheek and smiled. "I promise I'll do better."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
Y/n leaned down and wrapped his arms around Louis's neck. Louis wrapped his arms around y/ns waist and squeezed tight. For a moment Louis felt his heart ping. And he realized this was the first physical contact he's had with y/n in years.
Louis always knew he was gay but never knew he had feelings for... y/n. It was impossible. He looked at the nerd and only saw a boy. A friend... who's face was so adorable. And was so smart and made Louis want to sit and listen for hours to what y/n had to say. And how when y/n didn't want to do something he complained to Louis. And when y/n would cry, his cheeks would turn red and all Louis wanted to do was... kiss them to make them less red.
He was in love with y/n.
"Y/n?"
"Yeah?" Y/n sniffled wiping his nose with his sleeve.
"I love you."
Y/n froze, stuck in shock. He only stared at Louis, his mouth partially open.
"What?"
"I love you."
"I love you too." Y/n smiled wide. Louis leaned up and kissed y/ns forehead.
"Stop crying. Or I'll just have to tickle you till you stop."
"Please don't." Y/n laughed.
"Okay I won't. But you have to stop crying."
"Deal."
