Louis pov
"How long till land?" A crewman shouted over the crashing waves.
"About a day." I answered as I rested my hand on the hilt of my sheathed sword at my side.
"Just a day?" He said sarcastically "well im practically jumping out of me old leather boots."
"Alright Fredricson, calm down now will ya?" I laughed back at him
"Karl over there is basically chattering his black teeth off." Another mate snarled
"Me teeth are 'ealther than yours!" Karl defended as he waved his dagger around.
"Well maybe ye all should stop waving your weapons around and you ol' scallawags will live long enough to punch the teeth out each other."
"Oh don't be so encouraging there Louis! People will think you wish for a fightin' between yer mates! Don't let the cap'in here that one!" He waggled a finger at me
"Here what?" A voice boomed as the door to the captains office closer
"Captain! Good morning! We were just messing about."
"Is the messing about prohibiting you from getting your chores done?" She asked running her fingers along the deck of the ship to test its cleanliness.
"No ma'am."
"Good then. Get back to work men. We have a land to seize."
Y/n L/n. Captain I may add. She's one of the finest women I've ever seen. She had a stature that could make any man grow sea legs. She was beautiful, stunning in fact. All the men knew it, but only a few men actually had a crush on her. I was one of those few.
"Captain." I started as I walked closer to her
"Yes Louis?" She asked tipping her hat up to look at me clearly
"Well I was just wondering if you were busy for the rest of the day."
"No I am not. Why?"
"Well, a couple a' days ago you said you'd give me some teaching on sword fightin'. Would it be a bother to ask for them now?"
"Why not? You are one of the top mates after all. Your skills should be sharp."
"Right captain."
"Call me y/n."
I froze. No one was aloud to call her by her first name. It was captain, captain l/n, ma'am or Ms. L/n or l/n at the very least, but y/n? That was unheard of.
I just nodded and pulled out my sword
Everyone cheered and shouted. I raised my sword in pride and looked around at everyone
"Don't get too cocky now. I've been known to disarm three men at once." She smirked
"Yeah because I'm the cocky one." I snarked
"Come on boy, fight me."
I lunged at her and she defended my strike with her sword curved over her chest.
"Oh come on fish legs! Support yourself!" She cheered.
She swiveled and shifted her feet.
Third POV
Y/n shifted on her heels and tried to attack Louis from behind.
Louis turned around and defended himself.
"Nice block! Defend! Attack!" She shouted as she commanded him.
Louis started to get quicker and more fluid.
"There you are! Loosen up you static squid!" She laughed
"Static squid?" Louis chuckled
"Less talking more shanking!"
The fight lasted for a while, Louis against the captain.
Soon cheers erupted when the captain disarmed her opponent.
"Good fight. I see potential in you." She smiled at him.
A couple months had passed and the crew was venturing to a distant island known to be riddled with bandits.
"We have to be careful. On constant watch. They could come out at any time. They are deadly."
"Yes captain." The men said in unison.
As they docked they geared themselves up.
"Ready men?" Y/n asked in a hushed tone
"Ready captain." They all nodded
They made their way off the large boat to the middle of the island. It was a dry, desert but also deserted island. It was relatively big and held a lot of creepy scenery. They all crushed through the thin layer of sand above the dirt and made their way into a small abandoned town.
"Why d'ou suppose everyone left?" One man with a curved sword asked
"Run down by bandits, I'm sure'it."
There was small conversation strewn about the group as they investigated the area.
"Louis. Look here." The captain said grazing her fingers along markings in the side of a building
"Carvings?"
"No, slices. Unintentional. From swords and axes. The deeper they are the sharper the weapon and the harder the swing."
"These'r all deep." Louis pointed out
"They must have been attacked."
They moved along the wall and found some text.
"What does it say, it's in a different language I can't read." Y/n furrowed her brows
"They are... dates... and names... and money." Louis transcribed "May 4th... TIEGUS COPPLE... 856$" He read.
"Raiding?" Y/n deduced.
"Hold on... that's strange."
"What is it?"
"When was the last civilization here? In these towns?"
"Years ago. Twenty, maybe twenty five years ago."
"These dates are recent."
"How recent?"
"Like yesterday."
"How's that possible?"
Louis's face went from confused to scared.
"GET OUT! EVERYONE NOW! GO!" Louis shouted.
"Louis?! What's going on?!"
Before Louis could answer her, y/n was snatched by an unknown man.
She fought and kicked but he was too large.
"Put her down! Now!" Louis shouted unsheathing his sword.
"Why should I listen to you?" The man pointed his sword at her.
"Because I'm dangerous."
"She's worth a lot of money!"
"Put her down! NOW!"
"Fight me for her."
"I will."
