"Louis. I have a challenge for you." I protested as I held a piano brush in my hand "I want you to paint with me."
"Paint? Sure!"
Louis had always wanted to try painting and he'd expressed to me before how he'd like to paint but he never knew quite how or where to start.
Louis grabbed the ceremonial paintbrush from my hand and walked with me to my little art studio in the house.
"Okay. So I got us some smaller canvases. Just 12 by 12s. It's easier to start off large but I think sometimes that can be stressful to a lot of people so we just went for a healthy middle." Louis nods as he listens. "So we are going to start with acrylics. We have our basic colors. And if you need to make a color just grab a piece of paper towel or your pallet and just mix until it looks close. Don't be angry if it doesn't look perfectly the same. It takes a while to learn joe to color match really well. Even I still suck at it sometimes."
Louis nodded again and picked up a paintbrush. He did know what paintbrushes to use for what and he decided to start painting.
"Do you mind telling me what you're painting?" I ask delicately.
He shook his head.
"It's a surprise."
I laughed and started painting myself. It felt good to see the paint stroke over the canvas and cover it gently.
"So what made you like painting?" Louis asked breaking the comfortable silence.
"Painting was always a nice way to cope with anxiety or stress. I started painting when I became depressed. I didn't know how else to express how I was feeling. A lot of the talents I have are from trying to make myself feel better."
"That's awesome."
"That's why I enjoy writing too. Or at least reading. Books in general are always a great way to help distract yourself at least for a moment."
"Well rightfully so. How are you supposed to ever stay in one universe when there are millions of different universes to read about?"
"Exactly."
Louis looked back to his painting and continued for a while. We kind of just sat in comfortable silence.
"Can you help me with something?" Louis asked.
"Sure what's up?"
"Why won't this paint spread its like all sticky."
"Add water. Like such a small amount of water. Dip your brush into the water and then dip it into the paint. It will help spread it."
"But it's acrylic." Louis objected.
"That's alright. All paint can add water to it. Some just need it more than others. It would be a waste of paint if you didn't."
Louis nodded and did as I instructed.
"Oh that does work!"
"Told ya." I smiled.
It was quiet again and I focused on my painting. I loved it when something happened that I loved and was proud of. It rarely happened but it happened sometimes.
"I'm done." Louis chimed in after about two hours of painting.
"Okay. Me too." I smiled as i put my brush in the cup of water.
"You show me first." Louis insisted.
"Okay." I turned my canvas to reveal a butterfly painted in all colors of the rainbow.
"Wow... that's gorgeous."
"Okay your turn."
He grabbed his painting and turned it over to reveal a portrait of me. It was perfectly done. It was astounding how good it was. I sat with my mouth open and walked over to it.
"How the hell did you do that?"
"I don't know. I kinda just started and it naturally did that."
"Well take my job then why don't you!" I joked as I threw my hands in the air.
He laughed and pulled me into his lap.
"Thank you for letting me paint with you. I enjoyed it." He mumbled as he buried his face in my neck.
He kissed my shoulder delicately and hummed in content.
"No but seriously how did you do that? It makes no sense. You're good at literally everything."
"I wouldn't say everything."
"I would." I squinted and nodded.
"How?"
"Name one thing you're not good at."
"Serious situations."
"That doesn't count." I smacked his shoulder.
He thought a little harder and his eyes progressively got wider and wider.
"Well shit." He mumbled.
"Exactly." I sassed.
"You know what I'm the best at though?" He asked as he still gripped his arms around my waist as I sat in his lap.
"What?"
"Loving you."
I rolled my eyes and fake gagged.
"So corny! Corny alert!" I joked. I made a siren noise and walked out of the room.
"Here comes the corny train. Choo choo! come pick up your bags bitch, because your train is leaving!"
He laughed and walked over to be. He put his arms on my waist and kissed my forehead.
"Only corny for you."
"Ew! Too much love!" I rejected.
"Come back here and give me a kiss!" Louis called as I ran throughout the house.
"No you have paint on you!" I screamed.
"Come here and get a big blue kiss!"
"No!" I squeaked as he pulled me back by the waist.
"Kiss me!" He demanded as he tried to move his lips to mine. I shook my head and tried to dodge his kisses. "Kiss me!"
"Never!" I manically answered.
He grabbed the side of my head and steadied it as he leaned in to kiss me. When his lips made contact with mine I melted.
