Chapter 10- An Almost Celebration
Gail's Point of View;
As we came off the stage the other students went on to start their rehearsal as Homer and the Professor both agreed to present their case to the Dean in the morning. I was just grateful that a fight didn't break out between them, if it did then it wouldn't have been applause at the end. Presley has a talent for being a peacemaker on top of being a rookie detective but it seemed as if Kervani found another talent in him. As she passed him to go onstage, she patted his back and gave him a thumbs-up. He looked up at her as she smiled and said jokingly, "The doors open if ever you feel like joining. But I'll expect you to bring some homemade snacks every once in a while."
Presley didn't say anything and she continued up to the stage. Then he turned away and used his left hand to hold the back of his head. I couldn't hear what he was muttering to himself as he walked but judging by his expression, I could guess that he was confused. Maybe he didn't remember her.
I followed him up the aisles and thought about what had just happened. To be honest I can understand the professor succumbing to family pressure. It can drive a person to desperate measures that you feel regret over. Maybe that is why Presley aimed that question at me earlier. Fear really can make you do seemingly crazy things and the scary part is that you can't see the effect.
Professor Smith and Homer stood in front of one of the exits. As we got there Professor Smith then turned to apologize to Presley since he was the one who got put in the hospital because of him. Presley just seemed to be so chill about it all. Maybe he was just glad that there wasn't a fight either. It was amazing how he was able to figure out who was responsible for the accident with all this random information.
He must be either really intelligent or just as crazy as the people he figures out. But either way, he got the person responsible. Afterward, the Professor wished us a good night and the three of us walked back out of the theatre hall. The Professor stayed since he had to watch the last rehearsal of the other students. As we were outside Homer said, "Thanks a lot you two. If it weren't for your skills I would never have known what really happened."
"No problem Homer, but it was you who noticed the Professor's actions and saw it to be 'weird.' And Gail also got the footage so it was a team effort." Presley answered in a monotone as we continued walking.
I guess he was humble also but I have to give him props. "Even so, you're the one who put it all together." Personally, it was all too random for me to see the pattern he saw.
"Exactly, how about we celebrate this? I'll take you all out to a café I know. My treat," Homer agreed with me.
That sounded good to me cause I could eat and there was nothing home cooking.
"A raincheck for me, I have to get back to my apartment and prepare for my second day of school. Maybe tomorrow when it's daylight, so later guys." Presley answered. He was still planning to go to school even though he was badly hurt?
I'd have taken the day off just because of the trauma even if I wasn't in his condition."So just you and me then?" Homer asked.
As I was about to answer Presley called back to me, "Gail! Do you remember the path we took to get here? My phone died so I can't see my maps."
Yeah, like having the map could help him. I giggled at the thought and I knew I would have to probably make a sandwich for dinner. "Sorry Homer, but I have to take a raincheck also. Presley has directional problems so I have to drop him home. Tomorrow for sure we will meet up; night."
Homer waved me off as I ran forward to catch up to Presley. I'm surprised he made it back to school after they took him to the hospital. Then again it did take him hours to get back here so he could have gotten lost. Yep, no need to ask for details, it's clear what happened.
