Surrender

"Hey, mister?" Jolene's voice cracked as she spoke for the first time since her supposed friends took his bike and weapons - leaving her behind because she was never really one of them anyway.

"Wha'?" His voice was gruff. It was so deep and even just the one word spoken drawled out his southern twang.

"Thank You."

Daryl stared back at her, eyes roaming her face that was covered in dirt and her own blood from the wound the man she was with had left on her. Cowards, Daryl thought to himself when he watched the bastard smack the poor girl so hard her cheek ripped open and bled. There was only space for two people on his bike, and she was shit out of luck.

"I ain't no mister. Names Daryl." And with that, he turned and started walking off through the woods.

Jolene stood nervously, feet planted deep in the Virginia soil as she watched him walk off. The angel wings on his leather vest were faded, his body was covered in dirt and blood, some of which was definitely not his own. She was terrified that they would find her, her eyes taking in everything around her while her ears tried to tune out the usual wildlife sounds she had grown so accustomed to.

"You comin' or what?" The deep voice broke her out of her thoughts. Jolene blinked a few times before looking back in the direction Daryl had walked off in. "Got a camp. Good people. No walkers and we got a wall so you'll be protected."

Jolene bit down on the inside of her cheek. It almost sounded too good to be true. But, she knew the man before her was a good man. After all, he had come back with the insulin once he realized that was what was in the duffel bag. Slowly, and still a bit cautious, Jolene walked towards Daryl. He was standing beside a bunch of large, dead branches, his head tilted to the side to show the truck he had found.

"What about people?" She asked, quietly.

"Wha' 'bout them?" Daryl grunted.

"The wall, will it keep us protected from people, too?"
