Her life belonged to a small apartment in London with a book on her lap and hot tea on the table.

"I haven't received those two written A4 papers yet," Vica chuckled as she and George entered the paddock. Naturally, they drew a lot of attention, but all they did was smile and try to fulfill the fans' wishes to see the pair together. There was nothing between them, although some might say otherwise. They slept in separate beds but cooked together, and whenever they watched a movie, Vica always ended up cuddling him while he hugged her.
Alex, who had stayed with them for a day with Lily to sort something out with George, was surprised they weren't together yet. Lily even pulled Vica aside and almost scolded her for not dating George, saying they looked like they were already a couple.
Vica wasn't afraid to tell the boy that she felt something for him. She wasn't afraid to say that she liked him and had special feelings whenever she saw him and spent time with him. After hearing from Alexandra, Alex, and Lily that they should start dating because they already looked like a couple, she was convinced that the brunette wouldn't reject her. The problem was whether he was ready for a relationship. After all, he was a Formula One driver with little free time, and once Vica published her book, she would also have little free time. She was ready to give it a try, even with the possibility of seeing each other only once a month—but she wasn't sure if he was prepared for the idea of not seeing each other every day or at least every week.
"I'm almost done, don't worry. You'll get it by Tuesday," he replied, "It's not that easy to read when I have to train too."
"I've read two books in the days I've been here," Vica told him.
"When did you have time for that? We've been together all the time," George exclaimed.
"When you were working out in the gym, I was lazing on your couch and reading," Vica laughed, surprised by George's reaction. She had told him she loved reading, but he probably never realized how much she loved books. Books were her whole life—they still are. She can't live without them. She loves reading and has been a fast reader since she was little. She can read more pages in an hour than people around her.
"I invited you to join me at the gym, but you refused," George pointed out.
"This girl," the blonde pointed to herself, "doesn't work out."
"You will," the brunette looked at her, "one day, I'll convince you to work out with me."
"Only over my dead body," she playfully stuck her tongue out at him, "Do you know how much I run? Not at all," she chuckled.
"Not at all?" George was puzzled.
"Not at all," Vica nodded, "I've never been good at sports. I can ride a bike, and I quite enjoy it. I can ski, but I haven't had the chance to ski since I was thirteen, so I don't know how I'd do now. And running? I've never been good at it and don't enjoy it. I can run sixty meters very fast, I can run a hundred and two hundred meters, but it almost kills me, and anything longer than two hundred meters? My heart would stop, and I'd definitely die."
"Well, I'll definitely take you to the gym one day," George put his arm around her shoulders, "because having some endurance is key to a better life."
"My life is good without it," Vica argued, "but your life won't be good without my book."
"I'm telling you, I'm almost finished," George chuckled.
"But you still haven't told me how you like the book so far," she pouted.
That's all she cared about. She wanted to know his opinion, especially after finding out that George didn't read many books. She wanted to know his thoughts even more because if the book was liked by someone who usually didn't read, she would know she had written a really good book. She had seen him sitting on the couch, reading on his laptop, but he showed no emotions. He didn't want Vica to know whether he was enjoying it or not.
George wanted her to find out his opinion through the papers he would write—papers Vica had asked for as part of their bet. He knew he would lose the bet because their car wasn't competitive enough to contend for the top position, but he found it fun to make a bet. He knew Vica had seen Formula 1 for the first time in Miami and wanted to make her second viewing a bit more exciting with a bet—to watch the race with suspense, wondering whether it would be her or him who would have to do something.
"And why should I tell you?" George asked.
"Because you're nice and you want me to know?" she asked.
George laughed and kissed her on the top of her head. He didn't care that anyone could see them. They were the center of attention in Imola, but here in Monaco, there were many celebrities, so they hoped no one would pay them any attention. But that wouldn't be so easy. Yes, there were many celebrities, but Vica wasn't one of them. Vica was an ordinary girl without a public Instagram. She was a girl who was completely unknown to everyone. No one in the F1 world knew her, so they paid her a lot of attention, wanting to get to know her—but she didn't give them the chance, avoiding fans and conversations. If a fan happened to speak to her, she would just smile and quickly walk away, as the introvert in her couldn't handle speaking.
"You'll read everything in those papers; I'm not telling you in advance what I think about the book," he said.
"But—" before she could continue, Alexandra and Charles joined them.
"Alex showed me photos from your day together," Charles looked at Vica. She was a bit surprised that he spoke to her since they hadn't seen each other since that party after Lando's win. Even then, they hadn't exchanged many words; she had gotten along better with Alex—after all, she was a girl, and Vica always got along better with girls.
"Vica knew a lot about art," Alex smiled proudly, "I was surprised."
"It was a nice day spent just between us girls," Vica smiled, "and thanks to Alex, I didn't have to spend the whole day with him," she pointed at the boy next to her.
"Hey," George exclaimed.
"Then I'll take you now," Alex grabbed Vica by the elbow, pulling her away from the brunette, "and we'll go get some food while our boys get ready for qualifying."
"We're not together," Vica whispered to Alex.
"It doesn't matter," Alex waved it off, "maybe we'll find more girls on the way and have a great morning."
"That sounds like a good plan," Vica nodded, "I'll find you later," she looked at George.
"Take your time," he laughed.
"And you, sweetheart, you're coming with me," Vica knelt to pick up little Leo, who was sprawled on the road beneath them. It was hot, so she understood he didn't want to move—he was closest to the asphalt, which must have been very warm. The little sausage dog, with coloring that matched Vica's hair, immediately started licking her and wagging his tail. Alex handed her the leash so it wouldn't dangle between them.
"He likes you," Alex smiled.
"I haven't done anything bad to him," Vica smiled at Leo. "Isn't that right, my little boy? Who's a good boy? Who is it? It's you. Yes, it's you." Vica spoke in the voice she used for babies whenever she saw them and had a chance to talk to them—not often, but she had used this voice a few times before.
"I wasn't talking about him," Alex laughed and petted the dog in Vica's arms. "I was talking about a certain brunette you came with today and have spent the last two weeks with."
"You just can't stop digging into what's going on between me and George, can you?" Vica looked at her.
"No, not until you tell me that you've finally told him how you feel," Alex smiled. "And also that you two are dating. That would make me the happiest girl you know."
"Then I'd better say nothing," Vica smiled slightly.
"You haven't told him yet, despite everything we've talked about?" Alex exclaimed, not caring at all that there were people around who could hear them. Vica didn't care anymore. In the short time she had spent with George, she had realized one thing: she didn't care that people noticed her. Maybe she didn't like the attention and preferred being invisible, but if she wanted to keep appearing by George's side, she had to get used to people noticing her. She had to get used to people taking photos and writing about her on social media. She had already seen some edits about her and had to admit that fans had incredible talent. There were even stupid rumors about her, but George had explained that she should just ignore them because they would always appear.
"Exactly, Alex, exactly," Vica nodded. "I'm not as fearless as you think. Before I met George, I was just an ordinary, inconspicuous girl drifting through life. I still am, except now this," she gestured around them, "appears from time to time."
"You're stronger than you think," Alex smiled.
"Maybe here, but back home in London, I'll be that inconspicuous gray mouse again," Vica lowered her gaze.
Back in London, she'd be near Jess. Back in London, she'd be alone again. She'd have to rely on herself and wouldn't be able to hide behind anyone. Jess would be the one making decisions again. Jess would be the one convincing her to go to events. Jess would call, and she would come running because she had no one else.
She didn't want to fly back.
But she had to, because London was her home. Her job was waiting for her in London. That's where she would finish her book.
Even without George, Alexandra, Alex, and Lily. Without all the people she had gotten to know so well over the past few days that she considered them new friends. She was glad she hadn't given up and had made friends, but she was also sad to leave them because she had no other choice.
Monaco wasn't her home. Monaco was their home, and she didn't belong here. She knew it very well. Her life wasn't this glamorous and luxurious one. Her life was inconspicuous and average. She wasn't used to this luxury. Her life belonged to a small apartment in London with a book on her lap and hot tea on the table.
