February 4, 2016 ~ 3.) Grocery Shopping

Conner takes classes in the evenings everyday except weekends usually from 12:50-3:50. Conner just left.

Vanessa heads back into their room to get dressed before grabbing her phone and purse, making her way to the front door.

"Where you going?" Colton stops her.

"Ah, I figured I'd go out and get groceries since we're running out," she tells him.

"I'm coming with," he says, turning off the tv and getting up from the couch.

"You don't have to," she says.

"I want to. It's better than being here, doing nothing."

"Alright, cool. You can be my cart pusher," she nods, making her way out the door.

He follows behind her, and she locks the door behind them.

"Are we walking?" Colton asks.

"Yeah. We can't fly there." She turns to him, seeing him without his sunglasses. "You sure you wanna go without your sunglasses?"

"Yeah," he nods. "I don't care what people think."

Vanessa chuckles. "Well, this is a good time for us to bond. I've been curious to ask if you remember anything from when Conner released you from your pod?"

"All I can really remember is anger and to destroy," he admits, shaking his head.

They walk through the streets of Metropolis to the corner store.

"And how have you felt after I calmed your soul?" she asks.

"Much better," he says with a smile.

"That's good," she nods.

The two enter the store, and Colton grabs a cart to push behind her.

"Do you want to split the list?" he asks her.

"It'll be easier to do it together until you remember which brand we get," she tells him. "There are very many different brands, and they don't all taste good. That's not saying that we can't try anything new though."

"I understand."

"Hey, we can make this our thing. You should come with me every time we go to the grocery store. It'll help you learn new things."

He looks around at all the people maneuvering around the store. A few give him a glance before looking away but quickly return their gaze with a somewhat shocked and scared expression.

"Why are they looking at me like that?"

"Your eyes are very unique, so people aren't used to them. People aren't used to different. Different scares people."

"Do I scare you?" he asks.

She grins, reaching up and ruffling his hair. "Of course not ya goofball! You're my brother. I'll always love you!"

"W-what if I become evil again and hurt you?"

The half dead girl smirks. "You know how hard it is to hurt me? Even if you did somehow become evil again or even manage to hurt me, I will always love you just as I love everyone in our superfamily."

He gives her a smile. "Thank you, Vanessa."

"Now, let's get this grocery list finished and get home, yeah?"

"Yeah."

Before they even get to the first aisle a loud thump from outside shakes the floor. They turn towards each other. Everyone in the store let's out a scream as another shake moves the building.

"Guess we're going to be a little longer than usual," Vanessa sighs. "You got your suit on?"

"Always."

She covers the two in an invisible force field as he takes off his top clothes to reveal his suit underneath, placing the extra clothes into the shopping cart. He puts on his mask as she transforms and teleports them outside.

The two together easily take out the monster that was rampaging through Metropolis. They make sure that the monster is secure before it's taken away to where all the monsters go. The heroes fly down to land on the ground to get surrounded by press. All wanting to know who the new part of the superfamily is.

"I'm Match. I'm Superboy's older twin brother," he answers.

"Why do you wear a mask unlike the others?" a woman asks.

"Wanted to be a little different."

"Where have you been?"

"He was imprisoned by a horrid man, but those are all the details we can give you," Spook tells them.

"Tell us, how's life as a married woman?"

The demigod ghost smiles. "As perfect as I imagined it to be. Now, we must leave, we have important matters to attend to. Have a good day." She covers the two in an invisible force field before teleporting back to the grocery store.

"That was fun," Colton grins.

"Glad you enjoyed."

They return to their civilian clothes before reappearing. They quickly continue shopping.

An old woman and Colton accidentally bump into each other.

"Sor–" Colton begins to apologize only to get cut off by the old woman's terrified gasp.

"D-Demon! Stay away from me!" she shouts and rushes off.

Colton snarls and tries to stomp after her, but Vanessa calmly puts a hand on his shoulder.

"Colton, no."

"Did you not hear her?!" he huffs, turning to her with rage in his eyes. "She called me a demon!"

"Colton, remember what I told you?"

He crosses his arm in annoyance and grumbles. "People aren't used to different."

"Many people are understanding that different isn't always bad. That woman is a big believer in God and anything that's different she believes to be demonic. It's just how she was raised," she tells him. "Colton, I'm a demigod and half dead. What does that make me? Different. We're all different, Colton. Different but not less."

He calms down. "Different but not less."

A few more old women rushed away from Colton, shouting demon once again. Vanessa begins to laugh considering who her father is. Colton eventually joins in once she explains. They finish and head up to the self checkout. Vanessa's phone ringing interrupts her scanning. She tells Colton to continue checking them out while she takes the call.

"This is Vanessa."

"Boss, did you forget who's arriving today?" her underboss groans.

"Uh... totally forgot. Was this important?"

"British."

"Oh shit..." she mutters.

"He's here waiting for you to arrive. He's not happy."

"Yeah, I wouldn't be either. Anyway, I'm at the grocery store down the street from my condo with my brother-in-law getting groceries. Come pick us up."

He gives out some orders to a few subordinates in the background. "I'm sending your driver to your location. He should be there in 5 minutes."

"Wow, that's fast," Vanessa comments. "Alright, see you soon."

Colton gives her a curious look. "See who soon?"

"Business," she replies.

He nods in understanding. "I've never been to your job before."

"More bonding?" she suggests.

He laughs. "Definitely."

They continue the check out and exit with all the bags in the cart. Waiting for them out front is a limo with people nearby looking at it curiously. Vincent, their driver, exits to open the door to the back for them.

"I'll take care of the groceries, boss," Vincent says.

"Colton will help you," Vanessa says, getting in the car.

"If you wish," he bows, nervously looking up at Colton.

Colton looks down at Vincent, who quickly looks away from his eyes. The two load up the trunk and off they go to the half dead girl's base. When they enter the base, they get surrounded by people.

"Where'd you put him and who's he with?" the mafia boss asks.

"We took him to your office. He has four of his own with him. Four of our own are with him," someone reports.

"Alright," Vanessa responds and stops in front of the door. "Does he know I'm a woman?"

"Unlikely," someone responds.

She grins. "Colton, you be the first to go in. Scare 'em a little."

He grins, popping his knuckles. "Gladly." He enters first with her hiding behind him.

A few clicks of guns are heard, aimed at Colton.

"What took you so long to get here?" an obvious British voice scoffs. Colton smiles threateningly but doesn't respond, glaring at the man. "Why shouldn't I shoot you right now?"

"Because it wouldn't work," the ghost girl answers, making her way out from behind Colton.

"And who the hell are you? His little girlfriend?"

"The boss," she simply answers. "This, large fella." She pats Colton's arm. "Is my brother-in-law."

"The leader of the French mafia is a little girl?"

"I'm 21, fyi. I'm a lot more capable than I look," she says, voice becoming cold. "You can test me if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it." She holds her hand out and wrenches it back towards herself, taking a hold of each British person's soul in the room.

Each of them groan in pain, dropping their guns. A few drop to their knees.

"W-what the hell...?"

"This is called soul manipulation," she tells them. "With a snap of my fingers, you all could experience your worst nightmare over and over and over until you die. There's many other possibilities too. I haven't fully explored them, and I'm dying to test them out." She chuckles at her pun. "Don't test my patience." the ghost releases her hold and takes a seat at her desk, dismissing all her people.

Colton moves to stand by her side, not sure what he's supposed to do. Now it's just the 5 British men, Colton, and Vanessa left in the room. The few men stand back up, regaining their composure.

"I will learn to hold my tongue," the man answers. "How about we get this meeting started?"

"That sounds best," she nods.

~~~
(Blue is Conner and Vanessa's room. Purple is Colton's.)
4:30 rolls around, and Conner arrives home.
"I'm home," he announces.
"Are you hungry?" Vanessa asks as he enters the kitchen.
"Little bit," he answers, kissing her cheek. "What'd you end up doing today?"
"Well, Colton and I went grocery shopping, stopped a monster from destroying the city, and then heading to my office to handle some business before returning home and watching some Disney movies," she responds.
"Sounds like fun," he says.
"Dinner should be ready in an hour or so," she says.
"Where's Colton now?"
"He's flying around the city to patrol," she says, chopping up some cilantro. "You like tacos right?"
"Never had any before," he admits.
"Well, you're in for a treat," Vanessa smiles. "Go get changed and let's watch something."
