Every Rose Has Its Thorns

Doctor Who

"My my, Queen Elizabeth sure has a mean temper!" I mused as I darted around the TARDIS controls panel frantically, occasionally slapping buttons or pulling levers. I had came back to see Queen Elizabeth the 1st again, but she wasn't so fond of seeing me. She had ordered to have me beheaded again, just like last time I came back. I guess she was still sore about the whole accidental marriage I had with her a long time ago. "Amelia, if only you could've been there. You would've made yourself become queen and Rory your king." I smiled sadly, remembering Amelia's fiery temper and determination. But she was gone now too, just like Rory, and just like every other companion I've ever had. "I'm so sorry Ponds...forgive me please..." I whispered, tears trailing down my cheeks and splashing onto my black bow tie. I sniffed and hastily wiped my tears away with the sleeve of my brown tweed jacket. "River had told me to not travel alone...so I'll  just not travel at all." I twisted one last red knob as the TARDIS ceased groaning. "Finally, somewhere where I can't hurt anyone ever again and I could be left completely alone." I strode out of the blue doors, feeling relieved and lonelier than ever. I was standing on a cloud, miles up off the ground, where no one but me could go. With a sigh of satisfaction, I walked back inside the TARDIS, sealing the doors behind me. I rummaged through my pockets to see what I had with me. My green tipped sonic screwdriver, physic paper, and a pair of copper wire glasses. I picked up the physic paper so I could put it away, but I accidentally dropped it on the ground, the cover flipping up to show the paper. Instead of being blank like it should of been, it read one word in bold letters. Rose. I gasped and nearly dropped the paper again when I picked it up off the floor. I squeezed my eyes shut to prevent memories from flooding in. Blond hair that shimmered like the sun, innocent blue eyes, a union jack hoodie. "Rose Tyler, I..." I trailed off, unable to continue. It hurt too much. I shook my head to dispell the rest of the senses that lingered in my mind like an itch I couldn't scratch. Out of curiosity, I lifted the cover of of the paper once more to see if the word was still there. Instead, two words that I have seen many times replaced it. Bad Wolf. "Is this some kind of sick joke?!?" I shouted to no one in particular. I angrily slapped the console, causing my hand to turn red and begin to sting. Ignoring the pain, I once again started the TARDIS. The familiar wheezing/groaning sound filled the air as I twisted various knobs and pressed more multi colored buttons. Almost too soon, the TARDIS  landed at its destination. "Geronimo." I took a deep, shaky breath in an attempt to settle my nerves. Hesitantly, I pulled the doors open, bracing myself for the worst.

I was at the beach in Norway I had called Bad Wolf Bay. On the shore, I spotted a scarlet red rose, ocean waves pooling around it. I bent down in the sand to pick it up. "D-Doctor?" I froze where I was bent down, my fingers curled around the stem of the rose, poised to pick it up. The thorns dug into my palm, making it bleed slightly. The ocean water lapped at my fingers. Filled with guilt and sadness, I straightened my legs, the rose still grasped tightly in my hand. "Is it really you?" I heard footsteps crunch in the sand, growing closer and louder by the second. "You look different...please Doctor," A gentle hand touched my chin and gingerly turned my head to the side so I could see the person that was talking. My gaze remained staring at the pair of black and white converse that stood in front of me. I cringed, unable to make myself lift my head up. I gripped the rose tighter, the thorns digging deeper in my skin, but I ignored the pain. A single tear snaked down my cheek and onto my chin. The same gentle hand caught the tear with their finger and lifted my chin up. I was staring face to face with Rose Tyler, the Bad Wolf girl, the girl with blond hair that shimmered like the sun. "Just say something, anything." She pleaded, her vibrant blue eyes shining with unshed tears. "How?" I asked quietly, my voice cracking with emotion. "How are you here?" I stared directly into her eyes, confusion and guilt welling up inside of me. "It's time Doctor, there's something wrong with it." Rose took ahold of my hand that wasn't holding the rose and squeezed it reassuringly. "I bet you can fix it anyway." Rose smiled sadly, tears spilling from her eyes. "River said I shouldn't travel alone," I mumbled to myself. "Travel with me!" I begged desperately. I couldn't leave her. Not again. I waited with bated breath for Rose to answer. "Yes!" She squealed and hugged me tightly, her tear stained face buried in my crisp white shirt. I relaxed my tensed muscles as her head leaned on my shoulder. "What happened to Ten Two?" I reluctantly pulled away from Rose's embrace. She remained silent for a moment, her gaze stiffened and trained on the ground. "Someone killed him. I didn't even get to see who did it!" Rose's eyes filled with anger for a brief moment, then the anger faded away. "When?" I questioned softly. "Yesterday." Rose's voice grew as quiet as mine. "Come on, lets get as far away from this place as possible." I put the rose in my pocket and picked Rose up bridal style. I carried her into the TARDIS, the cool ocean breeze caressing her arms. She shivered and snuggled her head on my chest.

"Hm, so you've redecorated." She observed the TARDIS as she leap out of my arms. I didn't even realize how different it must look now to her. The large bones I had were gone, I had a Gallifreyan circle over the console, the room had an orange glow instead of its usual blue, and I also had a swimming pool in the library. "Looks nice." Rose flashed me a grin as she straightened my slightly crooked bow tie. I missed her smile so much. The way her eyes crinkled around the edges, the corners of her mouth turned up, and her eyes shine with humor and mischief. Rose noticed me staring at her. "What?" Concerned, she stopped looking around the TARDIS and walked back over to me. "Nothing, its just that...I missed you so much. Once I left Bad Wolf Bay all those years ago, I thought that would be the last time I saw you...and yet here you are." I pulled Rose into my arms and gave her a long embrace. "Doctor?" "Yes?" I smoothed Rose's hair out of her face and delicately placed the rose I took from the beach behind her ear."D-Did you ever...you know..." She trailed off, her face turning bright pink. "What's wrong? You can tell me anything, I promise. Cross both my hearts." She chuckled a little as I traced a cross over each heart. "Did you ever replace me? You know, find a new companion?" I hesitated before I reluctantly nodded. Instead of being angry, she seemed...happy. "That's great Doctor!" Rose exclaimed cheerfully. "I didn't want you to travel alone." I chuckled softly at her concern. "What?" Rose playfully batted my arm. "Someone I know said the same thing." I admitted, not telling her the person's name. "Where should we go?" The TARDIS whirred to life as I rushed around the console, pulling levers and flipping switches so I could get the TARDIS airborne. "Somewhere...random!" Rose ran around, trying to keep up with my pace. I smirked and twisted more knobs. The TARDIS suddenly started shrieking and groaning. "Um, Doctor?" Rose clutched the railing tightly. "Hang on!" I shouted. I flipped one last lever and we were off, flying through the sky. "Woah!" Rose stumbled as the TARDIS tilted slightly and she fell into my arms. She blushed as I smiled warmly at her. "Guess I'm not quite used to flying yet." She giggled. "Is your TARDIS supposed to make that noise?" Rose shouted over the TARDIS. "No!" I yelled back. Abruptly, the TARDIS ceased groaning and landed at its destination with a thud. I checked the screen worriedly. Displayed was a news article about a missing girl in London. I felt my face pale as I continued reading. "What?" Rose rubbed my shoulders. She read the screen. "Oh." She gasped. "Maybe it's something else." I shrugged Rose's hands off of me as I darted outside.

The sky was the first thing I noticed. It seemed really dark, like it was going to rain. And the sun. Instead of shining bright in the sky, it was encompassed in grey clouds. The TARDIS had landed in the middle of an alley, surrounded by trash and brightly colored leaves. I knew immediately where we were at. "London, the year-" I retrieved an abandoned newspaper from off the street. "2015, and the date is October 17th." "Nice observations Mr. Holmes." Rose laughed. "I'm glad you think so Watson." I tipped my invisible hat to her with a mock bow. From behind me, a fist connected to the back of my head. "Ow!" I complained as I whirled around to see who hit me. Two men were standing there, glaring at Rose and me. "Excuse me gentlemen, but you don't have to be so rude." Rose returned their hateful stare. "Rose, its okay." I soothed her. "Now," I turned around to face the two men again. "How can I help you?" "You can start by not impersonating us!" The short man on the right with blond hair snapped angrily. "John, relax." The other tall man with black curly hair quieted him. "Now, who are you?" He asked calmly "I'm the Doctor, and this is my friend, Rose Tyler." Rose cautiously shook both of the men's hands. "I'm Sherlock Holmes, and this is my associate, John Watson." The tall man shook my hand. His hazel eyes remained fixated on me like he was studying me as I pulled my hand away. "I'm terribly sorry if it seemed like we were mocking you!" Rose blushed, embarrassed as she apologized. "Its quite alright. Terribly sorry if my associate hurt you Doctor, he tends to have an attitude." The tips of Johns ears turned bright red. "Sorry." He mumbled. "Its fine." I assured him. "Now, Doctor..." Sherlock trailed off, expecting to say my name. "Just the Doctor." I explained. "Um, Sherlock? Was this there before?" John was standing by the TARDIS. "The TARDIS." Sherlock breathed. "You're the Doctor, the man with a disappearing 1960's police box...you look different." Sherlock frowned, scrutinizing my bow tie and tweed jacket. "When did you last see me?" I racked my brain for any memory of meeting Sherlock before. "The Christmas invasion, when you had brown, spiky hair, a blue pinstriped suit, long brown trench coat, and red converse." Sherlock stated. "I saw you leave in your box with a woman, but I couldn't see who." "That was me." Rose grinned sheepishly. "I should've known!" Sherlock cursed. "Anyway, um, we were just going to a crime scene, so we better go." John waved a friendly good bye. "Are you guys police officers?" Rose frowned. "Hardly." John snorted. "I'm the only consulting detective in the world." Sherlock boasted. "And I'm his blogger." John smiled meekly as they began walking away. "What happened?" Rose queered. "Kidnapping of a teenager girl." Sherlock shouted behind his shoulder as he strode away with John by his side, struggling to keep up. "We should go too." I jogged up the street to keep the two men in my sight. Rose ran by my side, smiling. "There's one thing that hasn't changed about you." She panted. "You still run towards problems." I smirked as I picked up speed.

"Hello, I'm agent Smith and this is my partner, agent Piper." I showed the woman standing at the door my physic paper. "Go ahead." She lifted the police tape up. "I think your relatives are already inside." She added. I froze where I was standing. "You know, the two American FBI agents Smith and Smith?" I shook my head in confusion. "Never mind, just go." She sighed. I ducked underneath the tape and entered the house. Everything seemed completely normal, besides the fact that police tape was scattered everywhere and what I assumed was the rest of the family was huddled in the corner, crying. "Elizabeth Frost." I knelt down by her side. "Can you please tell me what happened?" She paused, as if unsure if she should tell me or not. "This will help us find Amelia faster." Rose added. "You'd think I'm crazy and send me to the looney bin." Elizabeth muttered in a melodic British accent. "We won't, I promise." Rose assured her. "We we outside, playing football in our backyard like we usually did, and then I saw a short man come and leave from behind Amy, but I ignored it, thinking it was just my imagination. Then some kind of silver cylinder appeared out of nowhere, right over Amy..." She took a deep breath and continued. "And then the cylinder and Amy was gone." She finished, her head hung, tears streaming down her face. "We'll find her." I consoled her. "A TARDIS." I breathed as we backed away to the front door. "I thought I had the last one." "Maybe that's what's wrong with time?" Rose led me outside to the backyard. Nothing seemed irregular either, except for the smell of sulphur. "Ew, what is that smell?" Rose scrunched her nose up in disgust. "Sulphur, its a chemical." I informed her as I took another sniff of the air. "Why is sulphur here?" Rose plugged her nose with her fingers. I opened my mouth to answer. "Hey buddy, we need to talk to Elizabeth, know where she is?" Two American men interrupted me. "Let me guess, agents Smith and Smith, no relation." Rose guessed. "I know you're not FBI." I added in a hushed tone. "I use Smith as my name for when I pretend to be something I'm not. What is your real name?" The two men exchanged hesitant glances. "I'm Dean Winchester." The shorter man on the left introduced himself. "Sam, his brother." The other man jerked a thumb in Dean's direction.  "We still need to talk to Elizabeth." Sam approached the child cautiously. I glanced over at her. She was sitting on the floor with her arms wrapped around her knees, rocking back and forth as her mother rubbed her back soothingly. "Elizabeth-" Sam started calmly. "I won't tell you anything!" She sobbed as she began rocking faster. "Leave her alone!" Mr. Frost snapped. "Did she tell you anything?" Dean groaned softly once we were out of earshot from the family. I nodded. "Not here." I said as Sherlock and John darted towards us. "What are you four doing here? You two are American," Sherlock studied the Winchesters closely. "Dean and Sam Winchester, on the FBI's most wanted list, have daddy issues, drink and travel a lot, mother died-" "Shut up!" Dean snarled as he grabbed Sherlock by the hair and punched him in the face. "Dean!" Sam hissed. Sherlock reeled back a couple of steps, holding a hand over his nose. Blood leaked down his pale face. "Hey, get out of here if you're going to fight!" The officer that had let Rose and I in took the four of us and escorted us out of the house. "Hey!" Dean protested as the door slammed shut in his face. In the background, I could see John attending to Sherlock's bleeding nose. Sherlock mouthed something I couldn't understand just as the door closed.

(A/N: Btw, The time for Doctor Who is the time when 11th doctor goes to a cloud in Victorian, London after Amelia Pond died. I know, I know, eleven didn't meet Queen Elizabeth before, but...dont judge. For Sherlock, it's season three, end of season after Moriarty supposedly is still alive. (SEASON FOUR NEEDS TO COME FASTER!!). As far as Supernatural, I'm just gonna go with season 8. This was just kinda to introduce the three fandoms to each other. If you have questions, ask away! I'll answer as soon as I can. Live long and prosper SuperWhoLockians, and may the force be with you!)
