Chapter Twenty: The Unbinding Contract
-Sadie-
Over a thousand years ago...
I look out at the sunset in Heavens gardens and smile to myself. My white silk dress gently blows around me as a light wind tickles against my skin. My hair is curled and a single white lily is displayed gloriously within my locks. On my feet, I have my white heels which have no front in them so they are like sandals. I sigh and place my arms on the balcony I am stood on and just stare.
"Heaven, is just heavenly isn't it?" I turn around and smile at the familiar voice I hear behind me. I shrug my shoulders and bite my lip softly.
"That's not even remotely funny, you know that? Everything just looks the same to me, there's nothing that is heavenly about Heaven unless you're a human of course," I state and shake my head lightly. I feel a pair of warm hands on my shoulders slowly rubbing circles, the warmth fills me inside. I laugh a little and close my eyes before opening them to see the landscape has changed in front of me.
"What the?" I turn and look at the person behind me. He waves his hands and chuckles. I look at him confused and tilt my head to the side showing my confusion.
"How did you do that?" I question breathlessly looking out into the distance. Heaven's gardens had changed, the green scenery had vanished and everything in front of me had turned into fire and war. I saw people fighting and killing each other with man-made machines.
"I'm showing you what humanity is doing right now, what they will do always," the person informs me. I shake my head not believing him.
"What's going on?" I ask him. I watch as the scene unfolds and watch as many people in front of me kill and slaughter each other. I shake my head disagreeing with this and close my eyes only hearing frightened and pained screams. I place my hands over my ears and tears fall down my cheeks.
"Don't close your eyes Sadiana, look at what is happening here, look at all of the slaughtering and murdering. This is why humans really come to Heaven, to escape this," he tells me. I open my eyes and watch as I see a man run out to another man and clutch onto his dying body. I watch as the tears run down his face holding onto the other man's body as blood seeps through his skin.
"Death and destruction is a terrible thing, God created the humans so they could live happily not kill one another, his masterpiece is destroying itself," he explains. I look into the Archangels eyes and see the pain radiating from them.
"God is true to his word, humans may slaughter each other but they also love, they also give and forgive and forget, they are remarkable creatures Lucifer, this war, this pain, this massacre is just another one of your stupid tricks to make me believe that God is wrong," I shout towards the end of my sentence. I push him away from me and the vision before my eyes vanishes back to the gardens.
"Don't try and lie to me, don't you even dare!" I order. He looks at me with pity in his eyes. He sighs and runs a hand down my cheek and close my eyes at his touch.
"You're blinded, they have blinded you," he whispers under his breath. I open my eyes and look at the conflict in his own. He's struggling, he's trying to find out who he truly is. Something's troubling him and I want to find out what.
"What are talking about? Lucifer what's wrong?" I ask him holding onto his hand on my cheek. He shakes his head and turns around not looking at me.
"I don't like this at all Sadiana, the humans. I hate them, God may have created them but they are nothing but bugs that wish to be squished," he spits out in hatred. My eyebrows raise in shock. How can he say that about something so precious?
"How can you say that? Humans are so... so... special. They feel Lucifer, they feel other things apart from hatred, and... and mockery. They feel other emotions that us angels cannot believe to possess," I explain to him reaching out to his hand. I take it and pull him gently around so he can face me.
"Maybe if you understand that humans and angels are not so different in some ways you may learn to accept them," I tell him. He shakes his head disagreeing with me. I sigh and think quickly. I grab ahold of his face and smile looking directly into his eyes.
"Can't you feel this? My hand on your cheek, the warmth that it radiates. Can you feel everything emotion that I am sending you now? There's no hate, there's no remorse, just heaven..." I whisper. He closes his eyes and slowly lifts his own hand and places it on my own cheek. I close my own eyes and live in the moment.
"Every emotion that you're jealous of humans feeling you have yourself, even though you may not feel it now, you will eventually," I continue to whisper.
"I think you're only jealous and you only hate the humans because they can make their own choices, that they can feel whatever they want to feel without feeling guilty about it, without regretting it," I open my eyes and look at Lucifer who already has his eyes open and is staring at me but with a different emotion in his eyes. Love.
"Why? How?... How can you even do that? How can you be so pure yet so different from the others?" he asks me and slowly leans down to my level.
"I don't know what you're talking abo-" I am cut off as a warm feeling collides with my lips gently. I feel passion, love, and security. I instantly close my eyes and kiss Lucifer back as I feel him smile. He pulls me closer to him by my waist and I hold onto his face delicately. We pull back for air and the kiss is over before it even started. I slowly open my eyes and look at him and he looks down at me and clicks his fingers. I gasp when I feel a weight around my neck, a silver locket is draped around my neck. I lightly bring my hand up and touch it gently and smile when I hold the locket and feel its beauty.
"Lucifer, this is... I can't even," I am at a loss for words. He smirks and laughs at me and I feel my cheeks light up a bright rosy pink. He smiles and brushes his thumb across my face.
"You don't have to say anything, I know you will admire it's beauty just as you do with everything," I smile and giggle at his words.
"You always appreciate something and try to understand something or someone with a dark side," he tells me. I feel a stray tear roll down my cheek.
"Really? You mean that?" I ask in disbelief, his words are kind, sweet, and loving. The playful Lucifer, the hateful Lucifer is now gone and is replaced with a loving and caring angel.
"Every word," he leans down again and captures my lips giving me a sweet kiss before pulling away and resting his forehead on my own.
Present Time:
I scowl as I walk behind Lucifer and look down at my locket just below the stupid collar that he had placed around my neck. The Lucifer I knew a long time ago had gone and vanished and wasn't returning.
"You know, I really don't understand why you want to spare Castiel? I mean, he's a pain in the ass... well a pain in my ass," Lucifer says as we continue to walk around Hell.
"Maybe because he's a good person, maybe because unlike you, he has a heart," I hiss at him. He suddenly comes to a halt and the collar around my neck starts to burn. I cry out in pain and fall onto my knees clutching my neck in sweet agony. I scream and the pain only worsens and I feel the flesh around my skin start to burn and peel away.
"I'm not heartless Sadie if I'm not anything it is heartless. I have a heart and you know it," he says to me bending down and touching my neck making me scream out in even more pain. He picks up my locket and swirls it around in his hands whilst I continue to shake in pain.
"That's why you kept this all this time because you always had hope for me... you never gave up on me," he mutters and looks at me. I cannot really see his face due to the blurriness of my vision caused by the build up of my own tears.
"St-... stop... please stop," I cry out in pain as tears slowly run down my face. Talia is not here now to mock me, no one is, it's only Lucifer and his constant torture.
"I a long time ago gave you my heart," The pain slowly fades away and I feel my neck healing, I sigh in relief and I feel my strength slowly start to rebuild itself.
"You will always have it," he whispers. I look up at him and sniff. He wipes the tears that have fallen from my face and smiles standing and pulling me up with him. I groan in pain.
"Then why hurt me? Why hurt everyone to get what you want? What is it Lucifer that you want from me? I have nothing to you," I say in a hoarse voice.
"Nothing," I whisper helplessly. He turns to me and sighs. He walks towards me once more and grabs ahold of my arms and pulls me into his chest. My head hits his chest and I can feel his slow breathing. How is he so calm?
"It's not what you haven't done to me Sadie, it's what you're going to do," he starts to tell me. I close my eyes as I feel his hands run through my tangled hair untying the knots.
"If you sacrifice yourself to save Castiel, I will kill him and everyone he loves or cares for and that includes your beloved friends. I can't have him hurting you Sadie, if anything I'm going to persuade you to kill him yourself, all you need is a little guidance," he says softly and I try to pull away from him and push him away but he is too strong.
He lets go of me whilst I am struggling against him and I fall backward and land on the floor. I moan out in pain and look back up at him and he smiles holding his hand out towards me.
"Don't, Lucifer don't," I beg him. He chuckles and shushes me shaking his head.
"I'm sorry Sadie but this is what it has to take then I will do it," I shake my head and try to move back but I am stuck frozen in my spot.
"No... No please! Please Lucifer!... Don't do it! Please!" I scream crying panicking. He closes his eyes and I feel a force hit me like a wave and it sends me back, my head hitting the stone cold floor.
"Goodbye Sadie," I hear Lucifer, as I see this black smoke come towards me. I try to struggle and I shout and scream as it enters my body, I writhe around and struggle trying to push the darkness out of my body but it's no use, I'm too weak.
"No..." I whisper as my eyes feel heavy and everything fades into nothing.
-Dean-
"Crowley?" I question. He looks at me with a very pissed look on his face and scowls at me and starts shouting at me pointing at him.
"WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU MORONS DONE NOW?!" He shouts. I take a step back and look as I and Sam share the same glance.
"What are you talking about?" I hear Sam ask. Crowley turns around and frowns at him and again starts shouting.
"HELL HAS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT! BLOODY HELL!" I sigh and look at everyone else.
"Someone needs to take a chill pill..." I hear Tony mutter and I hear the others chuckle.
"Chill?... HOW THE HELL AM I MEANT TO CHILL WHEN I HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT OF MY OWN KINGDOM?" He screams. Someone really needs to gag him.
"What do you mean you're locked out of Hell?" I ask him. He turns to me and then walks towards me and pokes my chest.
"What I mean is that I have been locked out of Hell and I can't go back," he tells me.
"How's that even possible?" I look at Loki who has a confused look on his face. I sigh and turn back to Crowley.
"Well obviously someone has been making deals or has been doing some witchy woo magic to lock me out!" he exclaims pointing at me.
"Well it ain't us buddy, we have bigger problems such as Sadie missing than locking you out of Hell," I tell him.
"What do you mean she's missing? You can't you lose her surely? Unless someone told her the truth," he states looking at Cas. I look at Cas and he is looking down and has a guilty look on his face.
"Cas?" I ask him. He looks up at me and Sam walks towards him slowly.
"You know something don't you?" he interrogates Cas. He sighs and nods his head. Sam looks at him and raises his brow.
"What do you mean you know something?" I ask. Cas looks at me and I swear I can see guilt and sadness all portrayed in his eyes.
"I know Sadie's gone because she has to find something," he starts.
"Find what?" I ask him. He looks at me and shakes his head.
"The tablet of Life," Crowley says as realization finally dawns on his face. I look up at him and give him a questioning look.
"She's gone about that prophecy hasn't she?" Crowley asks Cas. Cas nods his head and Crowley shakes his head and starts muttering incoherent words under his breath.
"What prophecy?" Sam asks. I look at Cas demanding an answer. He looks up at me not looking at anyone else.
"The world is going to end," he starts. I hear a few gasps in the room.
"You what?" Clint asks.
"The world?" Steve questions.
"What's new?" Tony asks. We all look at him with a shut up face and he just shrugs his shoulders and takes a glass and pours himself a scotch.
"Like the apocalypse?" Sam asks him. Cas shakes his head.
"Much worse," he states.
"Demons will not only just rise from the earth but every supernatural creature will want to hunt down and kill the people on Earth, to them, you're all just walking battered chicken legs," Crowley states. I roll my eyes at his remark.
"And is there a way to stop this?" Thor asks. Cas yet again nods his head.
"Great there's a solution, what is it?" I ask him. Cas looks reluctant at first and then continues with his story.
"There is. Either I or Sadie must die by each other's hands before every supernatural creature on Earth has slaughtered all of us," Well I was not expecting that at all. I look over at Cas and I am speechless. No one says anything at all.
"Sadie has left because she refuses for herself to kill me, and she has gone to find the tablet of Life to find another solution before the world starts to end," he tells us. No one again says anything.
"How long have we got until that happens?" Loki asks. Cas looks at him and sighs.
"It is hard to predict but if Crowley cannot gain access to Hell then we must be close to it happening," he states. I don't look at Cas at all. He should have told us this from the beginning but he didn't. He didn't and he hid it from us, from everyone, from me, and I thought I could trust him with everything.
"Then we need to help Sadie find the tablet before it's too late," Natasha says. The rest of the group nod their head. I sigh and turn around walking out towards the balcony.
"Dean?" Sam calls out but I just ignore him and walk away.
So it's either Cas or Sadie. One of them has to die or else we all do. I sigh and close my eyes shaking my head. Why does this always happen to us? Why? As I continue to think I hear screams below on the streets of New York. I look down and see citizens running for their lives as what looks like to be demons running around going rapid.
"It's started..."
