☆ Time To Get An Upgrade ☆
Yes the title is a musical reference
"You did what?" Chica screeched.
"You must be lying." Roxy snarled.
"Tell us again." Monty demanded. "Your story will change and we'll have proof that you're having us on." With a sigh, I told them again what had happened.
"We were walking along and talking. She said that bears were her favourite animal, therefore I'm her favourite. I took a chance and decided to be a little bit flirty like Monty is and put my arm around her shoulder. She leant against me and said she was happy. Then we stayed like that for a little while. Then we simply continued what we were doing." Monty was slack jawed.
"So you had the perfect opportunity to get romantic and you just... Carried on with what you were doing?" Roxy asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Wh- Well I wouldn't say-"
"Freddy. You two are adorable!" Chica gasped.
"I was just- just being friendly!"
"What are you guys talking about?" We all jumped, Monty and Chica yelping at the sudden amused voice behind us.
"Nothing!" We all responded, turning to see Olive, hands pulling her messy hair into a fluffy updo.
Monty bobbed his head to the background music whenever Ollie wasn't working on him, Chica spoke endlessly, and even Roxy would hum along to her favourite parts. All in all, it was a bright and cheerful start to the night. Every time Ollie touched me to make the small repairs that John had missed or left for her, I felt myself smiling.
"Right, that's it." She finally said, wiping her hands on a rag. "Time to get you that power cell upgrade, Mr Fazbear!" I'd completely forgotten.
"Good luck. Read that thing carefully!" Chica pointed at the manual in her hand.
"Yeah, try not to decommission him. I actually kind of like this one." Roxy added. Ollie looked up at her with an ecstatic expression.
"You like him!"
"Tch. Sorta."
"That warms my heart, Roxanne."
"Shut up, Fazbear." I held my hands up in surrender.
"Don't do anything I wouldn't do." Monty winked at us as we left the room.
"Worst advice I've heard all year." Ollie responded, raising an eyebrow. I pressed my lips together to suppress a laugh.
"Hey! I heard that!"

"Are you sure you're comfortable doing this?" Freddy asked as I hurriedly flipped through the manual, absorbing as much information as I could before we started.
"Of course! I'm just double checking..." He put his hand over mine, swamping both of them easily.
"You'll do a great job, superstar." We smiled at each other, and a pleasant feeling appeared in my stomach. Getting straight to work, I led him into the chamber and started attaching the wires and machinery to him as he laid down. Once I was sure everything was properly hooked up, I went to start the process on the fossil of a computer outside.
"Please enter the safety chamber and proceed with the power cell upgrade." An automated voice told me.
"Are you nervous?"
"Not at all. I'm quite looking forward to being taken apart. It's been quite a long time since I've needed an upgrade."
"You're... looking forward to it?"
"Please adjust wire three-four-B before the process begins." I sighed and moved up to Freddy's shoulder, adjusting the wires there.
"Yes. The experience is much more pleasant than humans expect it to be."
"Adjustment complete. Process for power cell upgrade may now begin."
"What does it feel like?" I asked as I carefully removed his bowtie.
"I see humans doing a big stretch, especially after being in one place for an extended amount of time. It often involved joints clicking. From the faces you all pull, and from the way it's described to me, I would say they're very similar."
"Yeah, I suppose that would make sense." Now that his bowtie was off, the little machine arm that had descended from the ceiling helped me open up his chest plate and remove it.
"Removal of the head will now take place. Please mind your fingers." Freddy waved his toes about in anticipation, making me giggle. The machine arm fiddled under his neck for a moment before a second and third arm came down, slowly pulling his head away from his body. It was a little unnerving to see at first.
That was until he closed his eyes and sighed heavily, groaning in pleasure. My expression dropped and my heart sped up.
"That hit the spot." He hummed. I wanted to respond with a witty quip about being able to tell, but it was like my brain had suddenly been fried. Everything was moving too fast, yet it felt like I was moving through maple syrup at the same time. Why was I so affected by this? All he did was groan. With his voice all low and husky. And a look of bliss on his face.
"Is something the matter?"
"No!" I responded way too quickly, my voice a little higher than it should have been as I started fanning my hot face with my hands. "Not at all!"
"You may now continue with the power cell upgrade." Thanks for the save, computer guy. Once I had taken a deep breath, I got straight to work. I detached the wires needed, threading them out through the hole that was his neck so that I didn't disturb anything else. Once his limbs were all unhooked, I gingerly approached his head.
"Surely you'll power down after this?" He chuckled, a little bashfully.
"No. I have emergency power."
"I didn't know about that. It wasn't in the manual, either." I added, cautiously reaching up into his head. To have my hand inside the head of someone I had shared such a sweet moment with that morning was... ever so slightly odd... "Where is it?"
"A secret." He winked. I looked into his eyes, probably a little more intensely than I realised, because he gave me a nervous smile straight after. Why did I want him to never do that again? And why did I want him to never stop at the same time?
"Part two of the power cell upgrade is complete. Moving on to part three." The hands removed a chunky block, then replaced it with one a little sleeker. "Part three of the power cell upgrade is complete. Moving on to part four. You may now reattach the connections." I started with Freddy's head, gently twisting the wires back into place.
"That feels better already. You're doing a brilliant job."
"Maybe save the compliments for afterwards." I gulped.
"Do you not think you'll be able to complete it?"
"Not if you embarrass me." He hummed.
"I see. I will try not to interfere." He was probably smiling again, but I was too busy staring at two identical wires, attempting to figure out which was which. Freddy smiled a lot, actually. I like that about him. Once I was sure I had it down, I brought one of them up to the cell.
"I believe it was the other one.." He laughed. When I looked up, I caught my reflection in the glass and laughed alongside him. My hair was floating from the static.
"Good catch." I moved the wire to its correct attachment point and my locks dropped back into place, only looking slightly messier than they had before. The rest of the fix went smoothly, and the machines did the rest of the heavy lifting like reattaching Freddy's head and chest. Finally, I tied his bowtie back up and unstrapped him from the table. He stood up slowly, moving in this way and that experimentally.
"I feel better than ever. Way to go, superstar!"
"Are you just saying that?"
"Of course not. I would never lie to you." I raised an eyebrow. "Anymore."
"I know you wouldn't. I was only teasing." My fingers found themselves adjusting his bow, tugging on it until I was pleased with the way it looked. Once I was happy, I absently rested my hands on his chest, leaning forward a little. There was a quiet purring that was nothing like the disruptive drone from before. "It worked!"
"That it did, su-" He paused, narrowed eyes scanning the room behind me. When I went to turn, he finally spoke again. "Would Alex be down here?"
"No. Only mechanics, animatronics, and S.T.A.F.F Bots have access to this room." His expression kept suspicious for a moment longer.
"Must have just been my imagination." I was frowning now.
"You guys don't have imaginations, do you?"
"Are you going back to the daycare?" The concern left his features as he dodged my question.
"I did promise I'd go back, and I'm sure Sunny would rather it be sooner or later."
"Just... Be careful."
"Careful is my middle name!"
Why did he sound so serious? What had he seen?
