☆ The Daycare In The Dark ☆

"Did you just hear something?" I looked up and around for the source of the noise.

"Nah. Maybe it was just a rat."

"We do not have rats in this establishment. And it sounded like... a scream."

"Maybe Vanessa just saw a rat." Gregory's flat tone was unchanging, and he didn't even look up from the sandwich I'd produced for him. Marcus had left a stash of food in my room for when he had, what he called, 'the munchies'. Whatever they were. I hummed thoughtfully.

"Maybe I should check on Ollie and Monty."

"If you go, who'll watch over me?" After a moment's thought, I reached outside of my room and grabbed the nearest bot.

"This is Pat. He'll keep you safe!" Gregory scrunched his face, unamused.

"That is a wet floor sign. It can't do anything." I quickly covered the sides of Pat's head.

"Shh! He tries his best." There was another noise, and this time it definitely was a scream.

"FREDDY!"

"Stay here!" I pushed Pat towards Gregory, running out of the room quicker than I'd ever moved before. Monty stood in the middle of his room, still with a blank expression.

"Monty! Where's Ollie? I heard her yelling my name!"

"Get out of my room."

"But-"

"She wasn't here." His voice was flat and... robotic. I growled, pushing myself off of the doorframe and looking around, searching for any movement. There was none. When I opened the door to my own room, ready to check on Gregory before I went to search, the room was empty.

"Gregory? Pat?" Silence. "F- Fuck!" I allowed myself to swear this one time. It was the only word that could properly express the frustrated panic bubbling away in my stomach.

Freddy:

Ollie, where are you?

Please message me back as soon as you can.

My first step had to be finding the young boy and the wet floor sign. Ollie had made it clear that she could handle herself, and her whereabouts was probably somewhere obvious like in the daycare. Gregory didn't know his way around the Plex as she did, and he would be in trouble if Vanessa found him.

"Oh, hi Freddy. I didn't know these things could make calls."

"Gregory! Where are you?"

"Oh, uh." There was a rustling noise. "I'm by the kitchen. I got bored so me and Pat are exploring."

"I told you to stay in my room!"

"It was Pat's fault."

"Don't blame the wet floor sign for your disobedience." He stayed quiet for a moment.

"Sorry..." I sighed.

"It is alright, superstar. Go to the kitchen and stay there. I'll come and get you. Vanessa doesn't usually go into the kitchens so she doesn't have to deal with Chica."

"Alright. Come on, Pat." The line went dead as he hung up and I found myself sighing again. At least he was safe. I tried to call Ollie with no luck. Maybe she was busy...

"Gregory? Are you here?"

"Are you looking for him too?" I jumped slightly.

"Hello, Chica. Yes, I am also looking for young Gregory. Have you seen him?"

"I did, but then I lost him." She pouted. Her voice had a similar quality to Monty's.

"Do you know which direction he went?" Her eyes narrowed slightly as she thought, and I noticed that they looked slightly different than usual. Less bubblegum lilac and more indigo. I shook my head. It was a subtle difference, and was probably just the lighting.

"He went towards the daycare, maybe."

"Thanks Chica." She went back to patrolling the area, occasionally calling out to Gregory. A shiver went down my back.

"For fuck sake, Freddy! You didn't think to warn me that your friends have murder on the brain?" Gregory panted when he picked up my call. "Hurry up, Pat!"

"There's a lot to take away from that sentence." I blinked a few times in surprise. "Firstly, I've already explained that swearing is inappropriate for a young boy. Secondly, we are programmed to keep children safe, not murder them. Killing is not even part of our programming unless there is a category five emergency and other lives are at risk. You being stuck in the Plex is a category one, maybe a two if you start causing property damage."

"Tell that to the chicken that just tried to rip my arm off!"

"She did what?"

"She grabbed my arm and started pulling me away, muttering about taking me to meet my doom!"

"That... Does not sound like something Chica would do." I frowned.

"Luckily, she spilled a drink and Pat came over. She tripped on him and we could run away."

"I told you that he would be a good guardian. Where are you now?"

"On the second floor. I'm not sure where I am. It looks like a place for babies." Relief pulled my shoulders down.

"You're in the daycare. Go into the play area and find Sundrop. You'll be safe with them until I reach you."

"Sundrop won't try to kill me?"

"Not at all. And, because Ollie dislikes Vanessa, Sunny does as well. So they won't hand you over to her."

"Phew! Alright, let's go, Pat."

"Stay safe, superstar."

A groan escaped my lips as I tried to move. My whole body was heavy, and my vision was blurry. When I finally got my bearings, I realised that it was dark. Someone was giggling nearby.

"Moon?" I croaked. "Moon, can you hear me?"

"Ollie? Were you taking a nap?"

"Yes, you could say that."

"You look like crap. What happened to your arms?"

"I... I don't know." They helped me sit up, and my stomach lurched.

"Ollie..." They breathed. "Did someone hurt you?"

"I'm alright, Moon. I just need a second." Once I felt better, I shakily got to my feet. "Did the lights go off again?" Their expression darkened.

"Some brat turned them off. Even though Sunny told him not to. So now I'll punish him."

"Fucking Gregory." I muttered. "I'll find him and we'll turn the generators back on."

"No! I need to punish him!" With a deep inhale, I took off running, throwing myself into one of the play structures and out of Moon's sight. "Bad Ollie!" Crawling around, I hissed.

"Gregory? Where are you? Gregory, you little-"

"Oh, it's you." I bumped into something yellow and hard. "Why are you here?"

"I'm looking for your- is that a... Wet floor sign?"

"His name is Pat and he's my best friend." Gregory responded, a serious look on his face.

"Alright... Why did you turn the damn lights off? Moon's losing his shit out there!"

"It was an accident! I promise!" I reached out to him and he backed away, covering his face with his arms.

"Gregory." I muttered. "I won't hurt you. I wanted to check that you weren't injured." He peeked out.

"Y-yeah. I knew that." He scooched back over to me, gingerly allowing me to carefully turn his face this way and that under the dim light of his torch.

"Gregory! Are you in the daycare?" Gregory pulled his watch up to his face.

"Hey, Freddy. I'm here."

"The lights went out. Did you turn them off?"

"It was an accident."

"I believe you, superstar." There was a pause. "You can find some generators in the play structures. Use these to turn the lights back on, and Sunny will replace Moon. Though I'm sure that neither twin is pleased with you right now."

"Definitely not. I'll get them back on though, don't worry."

"I'm sorry that I cannot tell you where the generators are. The only animatronic that can enter the daycare is the assistant." He sighed before adding. "I've still yet to hear from Olive. I'm getting very worried about her. It's been an hour now..."

"Oh, she's right here."

"WHAT?"

"Hi, Freddy." I said into the watch.

"Oh my goodness, Ollie, I- What happened? Where were you? I was so-" He sounded so relieved to hear my voice, and a smile tugged at my lips.

"I'll explain it all when I see you. But I'm safe, so no need to worry anymore."

"I'm so glad. Please, never do that again. I couldn't find you or get ahold of you and- I thought something bad had happened. I- I don't know what I'd do if you got hurt."

"I won't get hurt, Freddy. I'm too smart for that."

"I'm sure you are. Be careful, nonetheless. For me."

"You too." I said softly.

"You two should just kiss already. Right, Pat?" Gregory gagged. The little bot made a squeak of agreement, which I didn't even know they could do. My cheeks burned.

"I'm going to get the generator." I huffed, crawling away from the laughing boy.

We had switched on five generators, communicating with our watches and avoiding Moon. There was just one more left, and it was nearest to Gregory. I told him where it was, and started to make my way towards him.

"Naughty, naughty! I see you!"

"Get away from me, you spooky bastard!" I made a mental note to scold Gregory for his language later, running towards the source of the noise.

"Moon! Hey, Moon! I'm awake! Look at me!" The animatronic turned towards me, giving Gregory enough time to scurry off, Pat rolling after him. "I'm not taking a nap. And I'm not going to." Their nose scrunched and they glared at me.

"Ollie will be punished." When they lunged towards me, I turned on my heel and started sprinting towards the front desk. Moon was a stickler for rules and neither twin would go behind the desk. "Cheating! You're cheating!" They fumed, standing on the table. I was just out of their reach, and it infuriated them.

"Not cheating. Just using the environment to my advantage. Gregory switched the lights off by accident. There's no need to punish him."

"He didn't listen!" Once either of the twins got themself in a tizz about something, it was difficult to talk any sense to them. "No!" They hissed as the lights suddenly jumped to life and they fell backwards off of the desk.

"Moon! Are you alright?"

"Oh, hi, Ollie!" Sunny beamed at me.

"Hey, buddy." They wrapped me up in a hug.

"Ollie! We did it!"

"Rule breaker!" Sunny flew over to Gregory and Pat, picking them both up and bringing them over to the door.

"Sunny, wait!"

"Ow! You stupid baby! Put me down!" Gregory squirmed.

"Get out! Rule breaker! You are banned from the daycare!" They put the pair back on their feet and pushed them out of the door. "Security alert! Woo! Woo!" A slam echoed through the daycare.

"Sunny! It was an accident!"

"We don't care." I frowned, going to open the door again, only to be stopped by Sunny's hand on my own.

"The bunny lady. She's not very nice. I saw her bring you here and you were hurt. The lights went off before I could help."

"It's okay, Sunny."

"No, it's not!" They wailed. "We don't want you to get hurt again!"

"Shh." I comforted them. "I won't get hurt again."

"Stay here. Please. Please! We'll be good! Sunny will be so good. Stay and be safe!" They sobbed onto my shoulder. My breaking heart hurt worse than the bruises forming on my arms from whatever that bunny did to me, but I knew that I couldn't stay. Not while Gregory was still here. Even with Freddy - and Pat, I suppose - if the bunny managed to get the jump on me, there's no telling what she'd do to Gregory. And I'd already become a little attached to the feisty, foul-mouthed little boy.

"I have to leave. It's my job to make sure that Gregory stays safe. I can take a couple hits from a stupid bunny, but he shouldn't have to." Sunny nodded understandingly, but didn't change their distraught expression.

"Come back soon..." I pressed a gentle kiss to their forehead.

"I'll see you both soon. I promise." After one last tight squeeze of a hug, Sunny opened the door and allowed me to step outside.

(A/N)

Am I foreshadowing? Maybe. Will I continue to foreshadow in every chapter until The Thing happens? Absolutely.

Btw I won't be uploading tomorrow because I have an exam :)
