☆ Sundrop and Moonrise, the Daycare Assistants ☆
"D'you think I traumatised that kid?" Monty hummed as he flopped onto my sofa with no regard to the teddies and pillows I had carefully arranged.
"He's been through a lot tonight. He's probably going to come out of this with some new fears regardless." I frowned. "I am actually quite worried about his home life, as it seems he already has some fears. He's hiding something."
"What, you think he's being, like-"
"We're here!"
"Montgomery, I'll fucking decomission you, you stupid fucking dinosaur!" Chica and Roxy burst through the door. Chica waved peppily while Roxy jumped on Monty, tackling him and hitting him on the head.
"Hey, hey!" I groaned as my stuffed version of Chica fell to the floor.
"Woah, what's going on here?" An amused voice asked.
"Yeah, get his ass Roxy! That's what you get for chasing me halfway across the Plex!"
"Beep beep!"
"Gregory, this language really is unacceptable." I turned to see Gregory, his arms crossed sassily. Beside him was Pat, as usual, and Ollie, hiding a snigger behind her hand. "You're an awful influence."
"Aw, thanks! I try my hardest." She put her hands on her hips, revealing that the oversized orange top she was wearing had my face across the chest. The equally baggy black jogging bottoms were finished off with my signature blue lightning bolt going down the side of her outer thigh. "Before anyone starts, Gregory picked them!"
"I did." The boy confirmed proudly. Before anyone could make any remarks regardless, darkness flooded the room. It was a mad scramble to get into various hiding spaces. There weren't many options. Gregory clambered into my chest, Chica ducked under my vanity, and Roxy and Monty threw themselves behind my sofa just as my door slammed open. Ollie and I were still out in the open, but I could see her calmness in the slight glow of the dim purple emergency lighting.
"Olive." Moon screeched. I'd never seen them look so infuriated. "You left us for that rule-breaker!"
"Hello, Moonrise. I went with Gregory to keep him safe from the other animatronics, and from Vanny." Their head twirled in a circle and their gears clicked.
"Who?"
"Vanny is a bunny. We don't have any information other than what she looks like and that she has some power over the animatronics. All but Freddy were under some sort of mind control and were trying to attack Gregory." The moon's face scrunched up.
"Well now that they're back to normal, you can give us Gregory and we'll punish him."
"No."
"No?" They snarled, before turning slightly to the side. "Shut up, Sunny."
"What is Sunny saying?"
"None of your business." They snapped. I put a hand on Ollie's shoulder.
"There is no need to be so rude. If you would just calm down-"
"No! I will not calm down! He turned the lights off! He's a rule breaker! I told you to shut up already, Sunny!" The animatronic was hopping from foot to foot with increasing frustration. "No, I won't listen to you! Shut up, shut up, shut up!" I watched as Moonrise quickly became distraught, covering the sides of their head with their hands and squeezing tight. Ollie pulled away from me and approached them, gently squeezing their arms.
"Moonrise? Listen to me. What's going on? Are you having an issue with Sundrop? Moon, what is it?" I glanced around the room, seeing my friends peeking out of their hiding spaces, similar concerned looks on their faces.
"They keep telling me to stop, but I don't want to stop!" Ollie took a deep breath, clearly trying to think of a way to diffuse the situation. I knew that getting involved would cause Moonrise to get even more worked up, so I said nothing.
"Why don't you want to stop?"
"I'm angry!"
"And why are you angry? Because Gregory turned off the lights?"
"Yes! He broke the rules!"
"And what is Sunny saying?"
"To not do it! But I have to!"
"Why do you feel like you have to?"
"Because all the lights ever do is go on and off and on and off! It's..." They struggled to find the right word. "Getting pulled in and out of The Away... Makes me feel sick and hurts Sunny's head."
"I had no idea."
"And it makes me mad! I need to punish Gregory!"
"But Gregory didn't know that he was adding to the problem." Ollie murmured. "He switched the lights off by accident. It may not have even been something he did, it could have been Vanny's doing."
"You sound like Sunny." They spat back. Silence filled the room as Ollie clearly began to run out of ideas. The only noises were those of Moon's mechanics, which were getting louder and louder. I wished there was something I could say or do to help, but Moonrise had made it clear that they didn't like us animatronics. "Make them stop talking. Shut up, Sundrop!"
"Split." Ollie demanded. They paused, peering at her suspiciously.
"What?"
"You heard me. Split up. We're getting nowhere like this, and you'll just keep arguing. You need time apart."
"Gregory is here-"
"Split. Up." She repeated firmly.
"Ollie, are you sure-" I began, but she silenced me by raising her hand.
"What does she mean by split up?" Gregory's whisper echoed in my chest.
"You'll see." I responded.
"Woah, what the hell?" He exclaimed as the animatronic before him became two small boys. He jumped out of his hiding space. Ollie stepped between the twins as they instantly started arguing again. The lights flickered on, but they either didn't notice or didn't care. Chica crawled out from under my vanity as Roxy jumped over the sofa. Only Monty hung behind, standing up but keeping the obstacle between him and the twins.
"Why can't you just keep your big mouth closed for once?"
"Because even the four year olds have better listening ears than you!"
"He turned off the lights! He broke the rules!"
"He's banned from the daycare! I punished him!"
"Well now it's my turn!"
"Ollie said it was an accident!"
"Oh, so her word is gospel, now?" Sunny paused, looking up to Ollie with their big amber eyes.
"Don't know what that word means." They grumbled, finally ceasing the shouting. "Always does that to me."
"Well you always annoy me. Goody-two-shoes."
"Meanie." Ollie simply stood between them, watching wordlessly and making sure neither attacked the other. It's like she knew the pair would naturally find the end of their argument in good time.
"I'm not mean, you're just dumb." Sunny's bottom lip quivered, and a look of panic passed over Moon's face.
"Y-you're a bad brother! Bad, bad, bad!" They wailed, clutching onto Ollie.
"Should we..." Chica's eyes narrowed. "Should we step in?"
"She seems to know what she's doing." Roxy responded, carefully observing the interaction, her tail swishing side to side. Ollie was patting Sunny's back and talking to the pair in a hushed voice. After a few moments, Sunny's tears were reduced to sniffles and Moon, looking quite sheepish, had apologised. Sunny accepted it and said sorry back.
"See. All friends again." Ollie beamed.
"Wow, I'm impressed." Roxy sauntered over, ruffling Moon's hair, much to their displeasure. Gregory watched on nervously. I nudged him forward.
"Go and talk to them. They're not much older than you, so I'm sure you'll become good friends."
"H-Hey guys."
"What do you want?"
"Moonrise, is it? Well, I just wanted to say sorry to the both of you for the whole lights thing. It really was an accident." The twins looked at each other for a moment.
"Okay!" Sunny replied cheerfully before Moon could protest, wrapping the small boy in a hug.
"I'm so glad you made up!" Ollie cheered. "What about you, Moon? Do you have anything to say?" The young boy crossed their arms grumpily.
"No."
~
Monty snorted in scornful amusement.
"Of course you would be the one with an issue."
"The only issue here is you, reptile." Moon hissed back. God, I had just calmed them down. Monty made his way to the front of the sofa, his lip curled.
"Just because you're a kid, doesn't mean I won't-"
"Monty, leave them alone."
"Oh, of course our darling little Olive jumps to their rescue." He clasped his hands together mockingly. "Oh but the twins are so sweet! They're amazing and wonderful and could never do anything wrong!"
"I never said-" I was cut off by Moon taking a step forward. To my surprise, Monty shifted back slightly. To see fear flash in the eyes of a seven foot animatronic alligator when faced with a scrawny twelve year old boy was...
"Sunny may be happy to forgive and forget. But I'm not my brother." They growled. "And I'm not above drastic measures to keep you away from us."
"I'd know, wouldn't I?" Monty's hand ran over his forearm absently, as it always did when Moon came up in conversation. I thought back.
"They don't like us much. It's because of Moonrise."
"Moon is quite bad sometimes."
"I'll second that." Monty replied bitterly.
"Naughty. It's nap time. Naughty children get punished!"
"Punished?"
"Painful. Ask Montymontymontymonty-"
"They... hurt me. I had only just joined the Glamrocks. Everyone was still asking for Bonnie. So I went off by myself to pull myself together. The lights went out... I- I didn't know-"
"What... What happened?" I couldn't help but ask. Monty's hands were balled into fists.
"That thing ripped my arms off!"
"It wasn't your arms, it was your hands."
"You tore them off!"
"I was just declawing you." I was speechless. Moon was spindly, whereas Monty was huge and strong. How did it happen? And how could the cold but sweet boy I know do such a thing?
"I was up on the top floor, looking at all the stars. I'd replaced Bonnie for a week. All the kids kept asking where he was, why was I there. Then all of a sudden it was all dark and you," he pointed an accusing finger at Moon. "You were on me like a vulture. My hands... Gone! It hurt! It hurt so much!" He turned back to me. "And the little bastard stole the parts. The bolts were custom made. I was in agony for three days while we waited for the replacements!" We all looked towards the boy, including Sunny, who had a look of horror on his face.
"My brother did..." They whispered. So they really didn't fully know what had happened between their twin and Monty.
"Well it's not my fault that you're a massive dick!" Moon argued. "All Sunny wanted to do was say hello, to introduce us, to make you feel welcomed! And what did you say?" There was a pause. "Go on. Tell them what you said."
"Listen, how was I supposed to-"
"TELL THEM WHAT YOU SAID!" A thick silence filled the room for a moment.
"I... I..."
"Not so big and tough now that you're faced with the truth, huh? You weren't the only new one! We had not long joined the crew, and not a single one of you thought to help us settle in past a quick introduction. So Sunny finds out there's another newbie. They skip along to find him and gets told 'fuck off you creepy baby's toy'. Do you know how much you hurt them? All I did was hurt you back! Don't act like such a victim."
"Oh, I insulted your brother so you decided to rip me apart? Why didn't one of you just say something? I could have apologised all the way back then!"
"I'm a child, sorry if my first instinct isn't to sit down and have a pleasant chat over tea and biscuits with someone after they decimated my brother. We're all we have! I have to protect Sunny, it's my job."
"If I hurt Sunny's feelings so much, why not let them tell me that? Why are you so desperate to speak up for them? Why is it your 'job' to try to break us apart every time the lights go out?"
"Because I watched them die!" They screamed, tears welling up in their navy eyes. My whole body tensed up. Sunny grabbed my shirt, breathing heavily. I put a hand on their back, but couldn't think of anything that would make them feel any less terrible. "My own brother was murdered right in front of me, and I couldn't do anything to stop it! Powerless! I was too much of a coward to do anything. And what was my prize? Dismemberment. I remember. Every. Single. Moment. Then instead of peace, we get lumbered with this bullshit? Some sick, twisted, eternal purgatory where we're stuck sharing a body, where everyone who isn't a child thinks we're weird and creepy, where our home is cold and lifeless, where the only other people that could relate to us are- are horrible!" Tears rolled freely down their pale cheeks, all of their previous anger replaced with hurt and fear. Monty took a few steps forward, his voice dropping low.
"I remember dying too. I- Fuck, if I knew that was you..."
"What are you talking about?" Moon sniffed.
"Everyone here was a child when they were killed. I died recently, yet I'm the same age as everyone here. Never strike anyone as odd?" We all slowly shook our heads, glancing amongst ourselves. I tried to calm the twisting nausea sitting in my stomach. "I was looking around the Plex. I don't remember what I was looking for anymore. And there were these weird noises coming from this back room. I followed the hallway and opened the door out of curiosity." Sunny inhaled sharply, realising what came next. "It was so... There was so much... I was next. I interrupted and paid the price, I suppose. I'm lucky enough to have forgotten much more than you. All I remember is that... view, then pain, then blackness." I felt sick. Moon considered Monty's expression for a moment, staring him down wordlessly. We all watched on. I half expected Moon to attack the alligator, but instead, he stormed off.
"Moon, wait!" Sunny called out through their own tears, but they were ignored.
"It's okay, Sunny." I told him, crouching down to his level for a hug. "They'll be back soon."
"I don't even know where to start with all of that." Roxy frowned.
"There was a lot there that will need discussing..." Freddy added. "Were you really so rude to Sunny?"
"Yes, I was." Monty admitted quietly after a moment. "I'm sorry, little dude. I was in a bad mood because of those kids and... You're cool and I shouldn't have treated you like that."
"I'm cool?"
"Absolutely rocking."
"I accept your apology." The pair smiled at each other weakly. Sunny's pretty easy to win over as long as what you say is genuine. The door slammed open to reveal Moon, who had something clutched in their hand.
"Here." They said simply, holding it out to Monty. Monty cupped his hands, his eyes widening when he saw what Moon dropped into them.
"My bolts?"
"I kept them. Sunny kept trying to give them back, so I hid them."
"Is this a proverbial olive branch? Because Sunny accepted my apology."
"Did you?" They asked their twin, who nodded happily. "Then yes, I suppose. Sorry."
"Okay, so now everyone is fine, dandy, and best friends," Gregory suddenly spoke up. "Can I ask a question?"
"Go ahead, superstar." Freddy smiled.
"What the fuck is this?" He gestured to the twins.
"These are two preteen boys, one named Sundrop, the other Moonrise. They are twins and-"
"That isn't what I meant, Freddy, and I refuse to believe you didn't know that."
"Well, you see, the twins have this, uh, cool... trait - yeah, trait - where they can do... this." Chica tapped her fingers together nervously, refusing to meet Gregory's glare.
"But what is 'this'? One second the moon animatronic is right in front of us, the next, they turned into two boys. Human boys. How? Why? How?"
"Well, as you heard, we died. All of us were killed. Our souls are now in these animatronics. And, obviously, I was lucky enough to possess the hottest one." Roxy smirked, flicking her hair over her shoulder. "Ollie's the only human that knows, other than you. So don't go blabbing, okay?"
"You can all do this?"
"Yep." Chica responded. "We always have been. Since the first Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. We've followed the animatronics from diner to diner."
"Nobody is quite sure how or why this has happened, and the logistics of our human forms are... Unknown." Freddy added. "We stopped trying to look for a reason many moons ago."
"It doesn't make any sense." Gregory persisted, his brow creased with confusion.
"Trust me, kiddo. We know it doesn't." Monty sighed, adjusting his glasses.
"Can I see you guys as humans?" He asked gingerly.
"Of course!" Freddy obliged. Soon enough that shining grin was back on Freddy's human face.
"You look so..." Gregory breathed, staring at him in awe. "Cool!" I found my lips quirking upwards in a smile of my own. The last time I saw him like this we almost... Would we discuss that? What would we even say? I shook my head of the thoughts, starting to feel lightheaded again.
"Oh, Ollie! I almost forgot!" Chica beamed, handing me a pizza that I hadn't noticed sitting on the vanity. "I got this for you. And I didn't even eat a single bite even though I really wanted to." She told me proudly.
"Aw, thanks, Chica! I was just thinking about eating something." As I sat down to take a few bites, I noticed Gregory watching me out of the corner of my eye. "You want some, buddy?" He nodded, quickly grabbing a slice and wolfing it down.
"I was hungry."
"Why didn't you say so sooner, superstar? I would have been happy to get you something." Freddy frowned.
"Ollie?" Someone poked my shoulder hesitantly. "Can we try some? Please?"
"Of course you can." I handed Sunny two slices, one for each twin. Sunny immediately dug in, humming with delight, whereas Moon regarded the food with suspicion for a moment before tentatively nibbling at it.
"This all feels very..." Roxy stopped to rub Pat's head while she thought of the right word. "Peaceful. Too peaceful, almost."
"I understand what you mean." Freddy responded.
"Well, maybe Vanny realised we're too cool and gave up. Or Vanessa found her."
"Vanessa! Fuck! I forgot about her!" I gasped, grabbing my radio, fumbling with the controls for a moment. "Vanessa, can you hear me? Vanessa? Are you there?"
"Holy shit, what if Vanny..." Gregory paled.
"I-I'm sure she's fine. She usually spends all of her time in the security rooms dealing with complaints and stuff." Chica tried to reassure him.
"Hey, mechanic. Why'd you sound so freaked out? One of the robots broken or something?" We all sighed in relief at her nasally voice. As much as I disliked her, I didn't want anything bad to happen.
"There's some weird shit going on, Vanessa. Have you seen anything on the cameras?"
"No. I've been in the security room all night and I haven't seen anything odd. I've been looking for that kid, remember?"
"Yeah, right. Maybe..." I glanced around the room. An uneasy feeling settled in my stomach. There's no way she hadn't seen Vanny, or me being dragged to the daycare, or any of the animatronics chasing Gregory, or my injury, or Freddy waltzing about when he was supposed to be staying in his room tonight. It was too much to miss. "Maybe it's that kid."
"What kind of stuff is going on?"
"Just things going missing, bots moving out of their programming. It's probably just him trying to scare me or something. I'll keep a better eye out. Hopefully I'll catch him in the act."
"You'd better." With that, I switched my radio completely off, turning to my friends, who were looking at me, curiosity etched onto their faces.
"Why did you lie?" Freddy asked.
"She knows more than she's letting on. I know it."
"I said I didn't trust her from the very beginning!" Gregory reminded them.
"Don't like the mean lady. Alex is better."
"Yeah, she's a rude nuscience." The twins added.
"It's true that Vanessa may not be the nicest person around, but do you really think..." Freddy looked away, a pained expression. He always tried to see the good in everyone.
"Vanny. The bunny is called Vanny." Roxy shook her head. "It can't be a coincidence." All of a sudden, Gregory dropped his second slice of pizza, groaning in pain.
"Ugh, my head." Chica's mechanics buzzed loudly, and she started twitching.
"Chica? Baby?" Roxy shook her slightly and got no response. Pat started beeping and spinning in circles.
"What's going on?" Monty was freaking out, eyes flickering around the room. "I can't see anything." A clanging noise cut through the sudden chaos. My breath caught in my throat.
"Fuck."
(A/N)
Hm, I don't know how I feel about this chapter, honestly. I wanted it to be a banger, but it feels a bit 'whatever'. Maybe I'm just being too harsh on myself.
But anyway, now you finally know how Monty and the twins died! I bet none of you would have guessed, huh? I don't know if you saw, but I mentioned writing a chapter from the POV of one of the twins. Well that chapter is coming up soon and I decided to write it from Moon's POV. SO looking forward to writing it.
The next chapter should be a doozy, so hopefully it'll be up pretty soon! See you then!
