☆ Getting to Know the Gang ☆

I was trying my best to keep my fans from switching on. Olive was behind me on a spinning chair, her elbows propped on my shoulders to keep it from moving under her. One hand was holding a screwdriver in my ear joint, the other was pushing my ear so that it wasn't in the way. I could feel her warmth on the cool metal of my back. The previous mechanic hadn't ever gotten so... close.

I had also finally gotten to see her concentration face. Not that I knew why I was so interested in the facial expressions she pulled.

Once she pressed the button on my back, my eyes glowed softly again and I could turn to her.

"How did it go, Olive?"

"Oh, phew. It was just the same button to turn you back on." Her shoulders sagged in relief.

"I'm so sorry. I should have told you that."

"It's okay dude. I figured it out."

"Way to go superstar." I smiled at her, but she didn't return it. Instead, she swiftly turned my friends on again, her back to me the whole time. Huh. What a weird feeling that gave me. Roxy and Chica commented on their fixes happily, and Monty playfully nudged me with his elbow.

"What do you think of her? Good, right?" I nodded slowly.

"Welp, you guys are free to roam around now. Y'know. Do what you usually do. I'll go back to doing my security jobs and I'll take the tablet with me so I'll know if something happens. Behave yourselves. Especially those planning on racing, not to name any names."

"Ugh, fine!" The girls left, and I couldn't help but smile at Chica's antics. She would never admit it, but Roxy enjoyed having someone so talkative around. It made her feel important when Chica would tell her every aspect of her day, no matter how mundane. How must it feel to be so special to another person?

By the time I looked back at Monty, he was already flirting with Olive again. She widened her eyes, an ominous look on her face.

"Everywhere. But at the same time... Nowhere..." With that, she left the room. I shook my head as Monty chuckled, readjusting his glasses.

"Insufferable." I muttered, leaving to relax in my green room. I didn't often roam around like the others did. "You're insufferable." As I made my way through the Plex, I noticed a camera moving from left to right. Was Olive watching those screens? I gave a small wave, wondering what she thought about cooped up in the camera room all night.

"Uh, the bear robot just waved at me?" A male voice echoed in a hallway nearby, his voice crackled. Robot? How dare he?

"Wow, okay Alex. He's just being friendly." Olive responded after a quiet beep. "Plus, Freddy is an animatronic, not a robot." There was another crackle.

"Since when did you care about technicalities? I thought you were scared of them?"

"Pfft- I- What? No way" She laughed nervously. "I'm not scared. I'm just aware that they're very big and could probably kill me." Didn't she know that killing was not part of our programming? Usually, anyway. There were special circumstances.

"But?"

"But... They're pretty... Nice? I don't know. I spoke to them a little. They're all so oddly human. Whoever programmed them did a God-like job on their AI."

"I mean, I knew they were good but are they really that good?"

"For sure, dude. Their personalities are so distinct." Now, I know that eavesdropping is wrong. But when Olive's footsteps got quieter and her voice followed suit, I panicked and started to walk after her.

"Chica is super preppy and could win a talking competition. Roxanne is basically an edgy tsundere. She told me I did a good job on her repairs, she supposed." A slightly warped laugh came through the walkie-talkie. "I feel like there's more to her, though. Monty is... flirty? Like, is that even appropriate to have a children's entertainer programmed to be like that?"

"I guess it's for the parents or something."

"Yeah, maybe. It's weird that he feels a little... shallow compared to the others. I'm definitely missing something. Maybe if I talk to him more, it'll turn out that he's a sensitive old soul."

"Or that he's just a flirty robot?"

"Animatronic!" Olive corrected. I shifted slightly, wondering what she'd say about me. Her comments weren't overwhelmingly positive, but they weren't really negative either. I suppose that's because they'd only just spoken and she still needed to know more about everyone.

"Yeah, yeah. What about the big man? We already have friendly down." I grimaced, embarrassed at my mistake.

"Yeah, he's super friendly. Quite polite. He seems like the dad of the group. Like, he literally told the other three off for getting over excited and shocking me when I first walked in the room. Also, very supportive. He called me superstar and, not going to lie, it made me feel some type of way." At least I knew why she turned away now. I hadn't offended her, just embarrassed her.

"You wanna fuck the animatronic, don't you?" I stopped short.

"Wh- Oh my- WHAT?"

"I'm kidding!" Alex laughed.

"I should hope so! I didn't mean that type of way!" Oh no, my fans were tingling. Please don't turn on, fans! You're so loud!

"Okay but come on. We all know you have daddy issues."

"You're going to have walking issues if you carry on." She threatened grumpily.

"Okay, okay. But... If you could fuck one of them, who would it be?"

"Alex! What is up with you and fucking the animatronics? Weirdo!"

"Come to the camera rooms right now and tell me you wouldn't do it."

"Alex, I swear to the gods above that I will beat the shit out of you." They both laughed and I stopped following her, sighing heavily as my fans finally kicked in.

At least she said good things about me?

~

"Hello, everyone!"

"Hi, Ollie!"

"Hello, I guess."

"Hey, baby."

"Greetings, Olive!" Everyone greeted me happily. Even Roxanne seemed to be warming up to me. We had a pretty good routine going now. The day staff would get the four of them to the repair room just before we swapped over. I would put on some music, power them down, do some repairs while I sang and danced along, I would send them off to do whatever they wanted, I would do any paperwork I needed or place any orders for parts in my office, then I'd do whatever my night guard duties required of me. I was getting more and more confident with the mechanic job, and had even done a few bigger repairs, mainly on Monty's legs. One week, he managed to badly damage them every single night! Usually, I'd end up talking to them all before and after their repairs were done, and I was right about them having more to their personalities.

Chica was just as I expected, but she also had a very tender and caring side to her. She always complimented me, and was always ready for me to spill the tea about celebrities or about people in my own life. Not that there were many.

Monty still attempted to flirt with me every chance he had, but I quickly came to realise it was his way of joking around, and could soon retaliate until we were both laughing and fist bumping. He was a little dumb sometimes, but funny and chilled out otherwise. Kind of like a himbo, I suppose.

Roxanne was pretty grumpy, but was also quite fragile. One night, I bumped into her while doing my rounds. She was crying and calling herself names after losing a round of racing. I'd tried my best to comfort her and swore to tell nobody what I'd seen. After that, she seemed a little nicer and a little less terrifying.

Then there was Freddy. He was pretty much exactly as I'd described to Alex a few weeks beforehand. A real open book. He was sensitive and caring. Sometimes things would go over his head slightly, like when I told him it was raining cats and dogs, causing him to become very concerned for the welfare of the animals. But it just added to his charm, really.

"You guys know the drill." They all nodded as I cranked up the speaker before switching them off one by one. The repairs were small, as usual. It was 'under 10's day' so the animatronics were covered in grubby little handprints. With a sigh, I took out a rag and a cleaning spray then got to work. Luckily, the material was easy to clean, so it didn't take long. As I carefully wiped at Freddy's face, a weird feeling came over me. I looked into his eyes for a moment. Why did it feel like I was being watched? I surveyed the room quickly before brushing it off.

Later that night, the tablet sent me an alert saying that Freddy needed the magnet in his hat replaced. One heavy sigh later, I grabbed a new magnet and left.

"Hey, Alex? Can you see Freddy anywhere, or is he in his green room?"

"Oh?"

"I need to replace the magnet on his hat. Get your mind out of the gutter." Alex had still not entirely dropped the whole 'having a thing for the animatronics' deal from almost two weeks ago.

"Sure, sure. I saw him go into his room earlier."

"Cheers."

"What can I say? I'm a great wingman."

"Dickhead." I replied flatly, making my way through the large building. It was quicker to go to the nearby upgrade room and follow the short hallway to Freddy's room, but all the endoskeletons laying about in the room freaked me the hell out. Just as I got to the atrium, there was a low whining noise before all of the lights shut off. I flicked on my flashlight, cursing under my breath. When I reached Freddy's room, I knocked.

"Hey. It's me. Come to replace your- WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?" My casual greeting quickly turned into a screech.

"Naughty children must be punished!" The figure was tall and unnaturally skinny. It's head was round with a moon symbol on it. It's eyes glowed red and an unnerving grin pulled at it's lips. A large hand pulled me into the room. Or, paw rather.

"Come on!" Freddy picked me up effortlessly, bundling me into the closet-like room attached to the green room.

"Bad! It's nap time!" The thing called after us. Freddy stepped backwards into the charging port, put me on my feet, then slammed the door closed just as the creature burst into the room. It roamed around for a few minutes before leaving. Freddy kept his arms wrapped tightly around me the whole time.

"Who was that?" I whispered, my heart pounding in my chest.

"That is the daycare assistant. Well, one of them."

"I thought that Sundrop was the only one."

"That is their twin. We call them Moondrop, but we are unsure if that is their real name. We do not talk to the daycare assistants. Sundrop does not tend to leave the area, and Moondrop will not talk to us. In fact, they try to attack us."

"Why?"

"We do not know. It only happens if all of the lights are off. Otherwise, Moondrop doesn't seem to be around." As if on cue, the lights flickered on again. "It is safe to leave now." Despite the statement, neither of us attempted to leave.

"Thanks for helping me."

"Any time, superstar." My eyes drifted away from his face at the name. He had stopped using it for a while. "Are you alright?"

"Yes. I'm just not used to being called a nickname like that."

"Then I shall call you it all of the time!" He declared. "You deserve it, superstar." My face warmed up and I suddenly started feeling a little claustrophobic.

"I- I suppose so. Now let's change your magnet." I pushed open the door and quickly walked out, thankful for the cool fresh air in the green room.

"Of course." He handed me the hat. It was a quick and easy fix, but my hands were still shaking from both the adrenaline of being randomly chased by that Moondrop thing, and the fact that Freddy was watching my every move intently. "Am I being off putting?"

"Slightly. But it's okay. I'm just antsy from that power cut."

"I'm afraid that happens from time to time. The power generators need to reboot occasionally."

"Well, it is a super big place. I guess it uses a lot of electricity." He nodded solemnly as I finally managed to slot the magnet into place. "All done."

"Thank you, superstar." He said softly in that so sincere voice as he bent down, allowing me to place the hat back upon his head. "Will you be going back to your office, or would you like to g-"

"Olive!" A frantic voice called. Suddenly, Alex burst into the green room and swept me up in a hug. "Oh my fucking God, Olive! You weren't answering me on the walkie-talkies and I thought that Moon thing had gotten to you and- I think I'm going to cry!" He was talking so quickly that I could barely keep up.

"Sorry, buddy." I put my arms around him, running my fingers through his ginger curls. "I dropped it when I first saw Moondrop. But I'm okay. Promise." He pulled away, inspecting my face.

"Girl, don't you ever scare me like that again!" I smiled sheepishly. Freddy cleared his throat, back at his full height now, and oddly, a few steps away from us.

"Oh, sorry Freddy! We'll leave you in peace now."

"That's not-"

"Come on, Alex."

"What? I wanna stay! I've never seen the green rooms before!"

"The bear wants some privacy." I was practically dragging Alex out of the room at this point.

"You don't-" Did Freddy just... sigh? "See you tomorrow, superstar."

"Yep." I squeaked, closing the door behind the two of us, trying to forget the image of Freddy beaming at me as he told me I was worthy of the name 'superstar'. Was I?
