Chapter Seven: The Summitt of Ebony Artic and the Sammons Family
Three weeks into my new role as a superhero, Rhea and I were in the library during study hall while Shandra was out with a bad cold that was going around when a meek freshman came. She had this scared look in her eyes as she approached my table. "What's up?" I asked.
The young woman just handed me a small envelope that read. For O'Hara before racing out of there as if she'd seen a ghost.
"What the heck?" Rhea asked, eyes lit in confusion.
I shrugged my shoulders before opening the letter. And unfortunately, it wasn't from the guys but from one Greenlee Sammons.
Skylar O'Hara, this is your one and only warning, the note read. You have until Homecoming week to formally break things off with the Youth Hero Alliance and ditch your godbrothers. I don't care if this means being a pariah and being exiled or killed. If you refuse, then consider yourself a threat in my eyes. I will become your biggest threat and enemy. And I mean BIG!
I gulped loudly as the Lewis Duo soon arrived. "Why is my life like this?" I groaned. To Principal Lewis, "Can you get Mr. and Mrs. Simmons over here for a luncheon summit? I think it's time that I set things straight regarding everything."
"But of course," the older man replied, "but you must admit that you signed up for this the moment you knew of Green Wave and Blue Crush's true identities."
"Don't remind me, sir. In all fairness, I should've at least waited until the two went home to use the bathroom. But I guess it's too late to think about what might've been. I'm a superhero and sidekick to my godbrothers, and they have been courting over me for quite a while."
"No worries, mate," Rhea assured me. "If you can get through three years of being on their radar before being a superhero, you can get through senior year as a hero while showing everyone what you're made of."
I hoped she was right, folks. Otherwise, I was screwed.
***************
Lunchtime arrived as I met with Greenlee Sammons as well as her parents over a catered meal sent by Memphis (he and Gold Thorn joining us as mediators). "So, I think it's time to clear the air about this," I began. "Given the circumstances of the matter, it should be known that I had no intention of being part of this if it wasn't for my accidental discovery."
"I'll bet," Greenlee remarked, cutting her eyes at me. "You know, O'Hara? I never had you on my radar before since you didn't want any connections to Drake or Jorge. I actually respected you enough to leave you be because you wanted to fly under the radar and keep to yourself. But now? You just had to become the hero and fall into whatever trap that you had laid out. And I don't like it."
"Greenlee," her mother warned.
"No, Mrs. Sammons, she's right," I said in a calming matter. "If I hadn't gone to use the restroom that fateful day, I would've gladly been lost in my usual ignorance. Hell, I kind of planned to keep away from them so you can gladly pursue them to your heart's content. But my parents, as well as everyone else here, know that the inevitable would've happened if I wanted it or not. And whether you like it or not, I now have powers that can turn you into a glacier without warning."
"That's all well and good, but Jorge and Drake are MY boyfriends," Greenlee snarled. "I was supposed to be their lover, not you or anyone else's."
I sighed heavily. "What do you want from me, Greenlee?" I asked. "I can't ask them to back off on the guys courting me, and my parents, as well as everyone else, will hound on me if I dare defect. I'll be an instant pariah and will likely become everyone's perfect scapegoat. You know this."
"I do, but I don't care. You have to tell Drake and Jorge that they'd be better off with me, O'Hara. I could provide them with things that you can't, especially when it comes to bringing them a child."
I arched an eyebrow. "And how can you know all of that?"
She gave me a knowing smirk. "Because I was pregnant with them last year," she answered confidently.
"That's a lie, Sammons," Gold Titan spat, eyes narrowed in silts as if ready to shoot laser beams.
"Okay, you caught me there, Grayson. I wasn't pregnant. But I could still be pregnant if the guys would allow me a chance to warm their beds. And besides, O'Hara's too much of a geek to be seen with them. He should be with his own kind- that ditzy cheerleading captain and that lesbian of a Goth girl from Down Under."
It was my turn to glare at Greenlee. "Watch what you say about my two best friends, Sammons," I said in a low tone, my palms itching to freeze her where she stood. "I'm trying to play fair with you, but you are asking for it."
"I apologize, young man, for my daughter's actions," Mr. Sammons said, giving his daughter a scathing glare of his own as did his wife. "I assure you that she won't be causing you any trouble as of today."
"Like hell, I won't!" Greenlee shot back before standing to her feet with a menacing stare of her own. "I mean it, O'Hara! I don't care about the restraining orders or anyone saying that otherwise. I mean what I say. Jorge 'Green Wave' Fernandez and Drake 'Blue Crush' Andrews are destined to be MY soulmates, no one else's. You can do all you can to try and make peace with me, but I won't be satisfied unless you're willing to back off and renounce the Youth Hero Alliance. Stick with your two loser friends and stay out of my way! If you even try anything, I will be VERY unhappy and risk everything to bring you to your knees. And when I'm finished with you, you'll beg to be put down like a rabid dog."
There was no appeasing this chick right here. She was worse than Summer Newman from Young and the Restless and Sheila Carter from Bold and the Beautiful. She's too damn possessive for anyone's good. But I wasn't going to back down from a fight. I stood up and stared her down, our faces inches away from each other. "Game on, then. Start your engines, Greenlee Sammons, and may the best woman- or superhuman- win. If you want a war with me, then you're going to get one."
"Just remember my note, O'Hara," Greenlee sneered. "You have until Homecoming night to make the right call. Do right by me, and we can be friends. But go deeper into this dark web, and I will bring trouble to you. And I mean BIG!"
Without warning, she spat in my face before storming out of the conference room with her parents chasing after her.
