Unsinkable Part 3 •Sabriel titanic•

"SAMMY," Gabe clung to the side of the lifeboat, tears falling freely as he screamed himself hoarse.

Then, with a last, deafening crack, the RMS Titanic sank into the icy depths. Gabe just watched, crying as everyone still on board went down with it, including Sam.

He wasn't even aware of the fact that he was screaming Sam's name until Balthazar was pulling him close, trying to comfort his hysterical little brother.

They were picked up by rescue boats after what felt like hours of floating on the cold sea. The little girl Sam had sacrificed himself for had sobbed herself into an exhausted sleep, curled up against Gabriel's side.

Gabe himself had spent the time staring out into the sea, not saying a single word, even when they were picked up he stayed quiet. Shocked.

They reached land, and that's when they were told the news.
The nearby ships had received a distress call from the titanic not long before midnight, and had sent help as soon as they could.

Gabriel learnt that the ship had sunk at 2:20 am, Sam had died at 2:20. He wondered how horrible it must have been, how scared and alone Sam would have been and his tears started again.

~~

Gabriel stood nervously outside a small house on the outskirts of London, in his hand was a small box full of Sam's possession's he had managed to save when Sam left his jacket with him.

Licking his lips as he tried to ignore the pain in his chest, Gabriel walked up to the front door and knocked. The door opened to reveal a worried looking man with tired green eyes.

"Who are you?" Dean Winchester asked, but from the look in his eyes as the spotted the box, it was obvious he had some idea.

Gabriel fought back another wave of tears. "I'm, I am Gabriel Novak, I was a... fr-friend of Sammy's on the Titanic." Gabriel broke off, clearing his throat painfully.

Dean was shaking his head. "He promised..."

Gabriel almost started crying again just at the sound of how broken Sam's older brother sounded.
"I'm sorry Mr Win-Winchester, believe me, I would give anything to have Sammy back."

"How?" Dean asked, opening the door wider to let the grief stricken Gabe in.
"He gave up his spot to save a little girl," Gabriel whispered.

"That's Sa-Sammy alright.... Putting the innocent before himself."
Gabriel nods, silently handing the box to Dean.

They sit on the couch, and Dean shakily opened the box. Inside was a letter Sam had been in the middle of writing to Dean, for when they reached New York.

There was also the flask Dean had given him for his 20TH birthday. There had been one last thing, something Gabriel had been given by the worker who had made it onto the next lifeboat to get out, which had also been the last.

Apparently Sam had failed to get on that as well.
It had been a hastily scribbled note to Gabriel, apologising for leaving him and speaking of the future they could have had. It had been signed, love Samoose, which had set Gabriel off again. This note stayed in the inside pocket of his jacket.

"Sammy," Dean looked so broken.
Gabriel felt the tears breaking free and stood up abruptly. "I'm so sorry," was all he could choke out before he was gone, running out of the house and down the street.
Always running from his pain.

It was a sunny day, nine months later and Gabriel was sitting on the jetty near his house with pain in his chest as he thought about Sam. The note was in his hand and a bottle of whiskey by his side.

He looked out across the ocean, tears in his eyes as he think about how Sam was somewhere out there, silent and still as the ocean moves on around him.

It had only taken 48 hours and he had fallen for Sam Winchester, and Gabriel swore he would never let Sam be forgotten.

And so, those who had remained on the RMS Titanic lay at rest on the bottom of that ocean floor, never forgotten by their loved ones. And Gabriel would never forget Samuel Winchester
