Chapter 4
Madoka took her shoes off and set them neatly by the door. "Thanks for letting me stay, I'll make sure to go though if it gets too dark," she told him, sitting on his couch. "Okay then, make yourself at home," Raptors told him, going into a different room. "Okay then, thanks," Madoka told him, checking the time on her phone for a second. Raptors stood behind a wall. "Man...she's wonderful..." he said quietly, before getting himself a drink. "H-hey, do you want a drink...?" "Got any juice, rum, or goats blood?" Madoka asked, looking at him. "I have apple juice and r- wait...did you say...g-goats blood...?" he asked worriedly. "Not like, Mobius goats like barnyard goats, that's all," she explained, laying back and getting comfortable. "U-uh...okay...I have apple juice and rum...which would you prefer?" he asked, trying not to get too concerned about the blood thing. 'She is a vampire so it makes sense...though why not-'
"I don't like taking blood from people, it makes me...it's just better to drink animal blood..." Madoka said, looking away. "H-huh? How did, oh yeah..." Raptors said, remembering she can read minds. "Um...do you wanna...mm, I'll get you some rum," he said, pouring her and him a cup, going and giving her the cup. "Thanks, buddy," she said, smiling sadly as she took a sip. "Mmm, Havana Club Añejo?" she asked, sipping a bit more. "U-uh, yeah, did you see me pour it?" Raptors asked, taking a sip himself. "Nah, I just recognize the taste. I've tried a lot of different rums," she explained, sipping it slowly.
"So...do you um...have a partner?" Raptors asked, fumbling with his cup a bit. "Heh, dead or alive...?" she asked sadly, gulping down the rest of her rum. "Can I get some more? A full cup maybe? Rum can't get me drunk so don't have to worry about that," she said, handing him the cup. "Okay..." he said, seeming sad before getting her more. Soon after he brought her a full cup. "Thanks...so, my love life-" "No, you don't have to, it's a personal subject..." Raptors interrupted, looking down. "It's okay, I'll just save the sadder stories for another day," she says, gulping down a bit of her rum. "So, there was this guy like, 134 years ago, he was pretty cool but decided to leave when he found out that I was a vampire, it freaked him out, heh. Um, there was this beautiful girl 82 years ago, she was amazing, in more ways than one," she said with a grin that made Raptors blush. "However, she was part of this rich family and they didn't like me and forced her to marry a guy, he was nice, but she wasn't into him, I talk to her a little now, though...she doesn't have many days left, but she's doing good for herself at her age." She took another drink before continuing. "Uhhh, oh! A recent one, bout 10 years ago, dated Knuckles a bit, though he was more for Rouge, and I wanted him happy so I let him be with his bat," she said with a smile.
"Huh, I see...so you like both?" Raptors asked, sipping the last of the rum in his cup. "Yeah, why only enjoy ice cream when you got a cake as well?" Madoka asked. "Though I do lean more towards guys, hey, nothing wrong with a hookup girl here and there." "D...do you do...open relationships?" he asked curiously, which made her chuckle a little. "I did once, but my god that became awkward when they divorced," she said, finishing her rum. "Oh, man...I'm sorry." "Nah, they're all good now, but I couldn't choose one, that would've been really awkward." She then looked at him. "Do you have any stories you wanna share? I'm sure you got one nice one," she turned her body to face him.
"Um...I uh..." he looked down. "...I'm not best with love...at least no one truly loves me..." he sighed, setting his cup down. "Oh...I see," Madoka rubbed his shoulder. "I'm sorry...let's talk about something else, okay?" Raptors nodded at her suggestion, seeming upset. "You know, I read this thing that said phantoms are good luck," she told him with a hopeful smile, which made him look up at her. "What?"
"Yeah, I don't remember exactly, but I do know that it said how phantoms are magical creatures that can bring good fortune to those who are ill with luck at first. So if you meet someone poor, with just you around, they'll become a millionaire, or someone who is said to die on a set date, by giving them a visit as much as you can, they'll beat that date and live a long life. So you're a lucky charm, or a good omen," she explained, putting her hand on his. "R...really? No way, you're making this up..." Raptors said, being in disbelief. "I'm serious! Take Shadow for instance. He used to be a cold cynic who only thought of his friend, but you came into his life, and now he has friends, sees the good in people, and has changed his life around. You bring those who need luck, and you need someone to be your phantom," she said, putting his hands in her grasp. "What I'm saying is, you've helped so many without knowing it, don't give up, because you'll get that person soon."
Raptors looked at their hands, and his heartbeat got faster. "I..." He then looked at her. "I think I have..." he then started to lean in closer. "Raptors?" Madoka asked, seeing him get closer, but not backing up. Instead, she was getting closer as well. "M...Madoka I..." "Yeah...me too..." They started to close their eyes, about to meet each other's lips...
But Raptors then backed away, blushing and taking his hands away. "I...I can't...I-I'm sorry..." Madoka looked at him sadly. "Did...did I upset you? I'm sorry I thought-" "Just leave...please..." he held his head in his hands. "O...okay...bye..." she got up, got her shoes, and left. Raptors watched her leave, his eye tearing up. "Why...why did I pull away...did I lose my chance...why..." he looked at the cups for a moment. "She...she wanted it too...why...why was I so stupid?!" he then swiped both glasses off the coffee table, flipping the table, and was lost in rage for a moment. "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?! YOU HAD A CHANCE AND YOU BLEW IT!!" he yelled, tears falling off his face.
Meanwhile...
Madoka was walking away, hearing things crash. "Raptors...I'm sorry I..." she then kept walking, looking down. "Damnit...I shouldn't have leaned in...now he probably wants nothing to do with me..." she turned into a wild bat, flying away.
'So stupid...' they both thought...
