Halos Aren't For Humans (Gabriel)

You scribbled into your diary blankly. It wasn't a classic diary, it was filled with doodles and random words that you would not down whenever you were deep in thought. If someone were to look inside they wouldn't be able to figure out what it all means.

You were contemplating about your best friend Gabriel. He's the closest to you from everyone in your life. A couple of weeks ago you realised that you had feelings for him. You wanted him to know so bad but you feared rejection. You didn't want your friendship with him to be ruined or awkward.

But more than that... you realised that a relationship would probably not be possible with him. It's not that he wouldn't make a good boyfriend, you just... he isn't capable of feelings.

Being an Angel limits your humanistic interactions.

But you don't blame him and neither do you wish anymore that something would happen.

You both have had your moments together in the past where you were sure that something would fire up between the two of you. However, nothing occurred. Plus, he's implicitly mentioned on occasions that he wasn't into the whole 'relationship deal'.

But little did you know that he would say things like that just to make you feel that you weren't being neglected... and that he could feel better about the lack of feelings inside him.

You sighed, shutting the diary in front of you and placing it back inside your backpack. You got up from your seat and went over to your bed, collapsing onto your back and staring at the motel room ceiling.

Even though you constantly pushed the thoughts out of your head, they kept swarming back, haunting you in fact.

You were staying at a motel right now in Salt Lake City, Utah, hopping from state to state and touring the country. You enjoyed it, no doubt, but... you missed being around your friends, especially Gabriel.

No.

You couldn't take it anymore.

Being away from your best friend hurt you so much, it was unfathomable. You admired him, he was your role model for life and how to deal with it in the best way possible and now... he's farther away from you than you would ever hope for.

You decided that you were going to go back and meet him. You had to, it was an itch that you had scratch.

You had to see him once again. Seven months away from him has been too long.

*****

You palms continued to sweat as you gripped the steering wheel. You drove at a constant high speed down the empty freeway, with no other vehicles in sight.

You were on the verge of zoning out, staring at the endless gravel and the dividing line in the middle of the road. You had to constantly remind yourself that you were driving and that you wanted to make it alive.

You were unsure about what to anticipate Gabriel's reaction to be. You could imagine a hint of disconnect, maybe a slight feeling of relief of seeing you once more.

You turned to the right, into a fairly empty parking lot for a motel lot. You smiled softly as you examined the L-shaped building for 'CosyInn Motel', and parked your car in a spot next to the main reception building.

This place brought back memories. It was the last place where you and Gabriel had spent time together, working on a case and trying to save lives. In the end, you did save lives but you both killed your relationship with each other.

You just hoped that he's still here, otherwise you don't have a single lead on where he might go.

You walked into the reception and greeted the man at the desk who was skimming through a ledger.

"Hi, I'm looking for a gentleman named G-Gabe?" You asked and he scrunched up his eyebrows in thought.

You frowned. His attitude seemed to emit some sense of confusion. Gabriel probably wasn't-

"Ah yes, Mr Gabriel is it?" He responded and you nodded your head quickly, "He's in room 7, down the hall and to the left."

"Thank you," You said with a smile and followed his directions.

Gabe didn't move... You thought and chuckled.

Perhaps you weren't the only one who was aching inside with grieving... Gabriel may be in the same boat as you.

You stood outside room 7 and raised your knuckles to the door. You waited for a moment, taking a deep breath, then knocking on the door a couple of times. You gulped as you waited impatiently.

Maybe it's a bad time... Maybe he doesn't want to meet me. Gabriel can get a little agitated and moody sometimes, You told yourself mentally, I think I should-

CREAK!

The door opened slowly and you felt your palms suddenly start to get sweaty.

"Yes?" The person inhabiting the room groaned from the other side, hiding behind the ajar door. You didn't recognise the voice, you realise that maybe you're standing in front of the wrong room.

"U-Um... I'm here to see Gabriel," You informed as you double-checked the number on the door to confirm that it is 7, "Is this not his room-"

The door opened wider, revealing the man inside the room. You widened your eyes and you gasped. You started to back away slowly.

"Oh sugar, of course, it's you! I should have known," The man standing at the door said with mischief on his face. It was Lucifer, in his Nick meat-suit, leaning against the doorframe with his arm raise up to support him.

"N-No we got-"

"Rid of me?" He interrupted, "Yeah about that... Why don't you come in [y/n/n]?"

"I-I should be going-"

He clenched his hand into a fist, causing your muscles to paralyse and body to move closer to him gradually. You couldn't breathe properly, the blood rushed to your head.

"Let's have a chat," He says and flicked his wrist, causing everything to go black.

*****

You opened your eyes suddenly, feeling as if your head is being crushed by a boulder. You winced, furrowing your eyebrows to focus your blurred vision.

You were sitting inside a room, a fairly large motel room with a queen-sized bed and a television set opposite it. You were restrained to a chair but... nothing was tying you down.

You tried to get up but you couldn't move a muscle. You glanced around the room with panic, trying to find some sort of help or escape.

"Relax, you're not going anywhere," Lucifer said and rolled his eyes, entering the room from the washroom, with a dagger in his hands.

Your eyes were pinned on him, you felt your heart thump in your chest, threatening to rip out.

"Now... ask me why you're here?" He said with a grin and you gulped. You didn't know if he was joking or being genuine.

"W-W-Why am I here," You muttered under your breath, refusing to look straight into his eyes.

"Well... let's see, shall we," He rubbed his chin then walked closer to you, "I need Gabriel, the reasons for which are far too complicated for you to understand."

He approached your seat and held the armrests, bending closer to you. "And you are probably the only lead I have," He said, getting far too close in your personal space.

You spat in his face with disgust, causing him to jerk back. You breathed heavily, you've had a history with him and one that you don't fancy remembering.

Lucifer glared at you then slapped you across your face with the back of his hand. You cried in pain, your head hanging low as your cheeks stung.

He walked away and clenched his fists, causing your breathing to stop abruptly. You felt your head compress, you croaked as you tried to speak and call out for help.

"P-P-PLEASE STOP!"

THUD!

The door opened violently, your eyes darted towards it in pure shock and fear. You immediately saw Gabriel standing there, storming into the room and towards Lucifer who was ready to fight.

Gabriel glanced to you for a moment to make sure that you were alright but he was caught off-guard and flung across the room. He hit the wall and collapsed, struggling to regain his stance.

A deadly fight ensued between Archangel and Archangel, with you on the sidelines fearful that you would be annihilated from existence.

The entire commotion was a blur for you. Between your aching body and head, and your will to survive, you watched Gabriel then Lucifer being thrown to the ground or across the room with rage. They yelled at each other ferociously.

But Lucifer tackled Gabriel to the ground. His brother was pinned on the carpeted floor, unable to break free from the hold. You yelled out for him, still seated on the chair with Lucifer's powers. You couldn't move a muscle.

Gabriel tried his best to reach out for the candlestick on his side, near the bed. Lucifer choaked him, clenching his fists and causing Gabriel's ribs to compress. He started to cough blood, his face growing pale from blood loss and red from suffocation at the same time.

He started to recite something... you couldn't make out what. It sounded like gibberish but you had a feeling that it was Enochian.

A bright light suddenly emitted from where Lucifer and Gabriel were in the room. You had to shut your eyes, you felt like it was literally blinding you.

Lucifer yelled loudly, his screams growing distant until they formed into an echo. As the light intensified, you felt his essence disappear for the room. When the light's emittance lowered behind your eyelids, you o[pened your eyes gradually-

You fell off the chair. Lucifer was gone from the room and so was his power over you. You turned to Gabriel who was breathing heavily, staring at the ceiling while laying on the ground.

You rushed to his side with panic, then sighed with relief when you concluded that he was okay. You grabbed a hand towel and wiped the blood off his face. You soaked another in cold water from the washroom and you placed it around his neck.

"Gabriel, what... Where were you?" You asked, tears stinging your eyes. You were so relieved to see him in front of you, alive and decently well. "I-I-I came here to s-see you and... I just-I had to see you, Gabriel," You said in a rush.

He held the side of your face, caressing it softly, and smiling. "I waited here every day for months [y/n], I waited for you to come back. I thought of going to see you instead but... I didn't want you to find nobody if you came back," Gabriel said as you helped him to sit up, "I wanted to tell you that I really care about you, as much as an Angel can and I know it's not what you want. You want something more-"

You covered his mouth with your palm and shook your head. "I don't care Gabe, as long as I'm with you," You responded, "Look, I love you Gabriel and I know you know it... but it's alright if you don't feel-"

He laughed, causing you to watch him with confusion. "The thing is that I do too," He replied, "But all these... feelings, they're a whole new world that I'm scared to experience."

You rested your forehead against his and smile softly. "Just promise me that we won't be apart from each other anymore," You whispered and he kissed your cheek.

"I promise."
