Dark Eyes and Dark Nights

You pulled the covers off of yourself and jumped out of bed. You started shaking and your breath caught in your throat. It was another night where the other side of the bed was empty and he wasn't there to wrap his arms around you or just simply be there to wake up to in the morning.

It was the same nightmare every night. You'd be somewhere in the woods and you would see Dean, and your heart would fill with joy. You'd come running up to him and then suddenly, his eyes would turn black. Not just black, an, onyx black. You'd stop in your tracks every time, and before you could even think about running away, Dean would grab you by the throat and look you straight in the eyes. And just as he was about to snap your neck...you'd wake up.

And then it would happen the next night. And then the next night, and then the night after that, and then again and again and again every god damn night. It's happened every night since you found out that Dean Winchester is alive - somewhere - as one of the things you hated the most.

You just wanted him back. Wherever he was in the world - whether he was doing something evil or just sipping a cold beer in a bar somewhere - you wanted him back and human. He was your human. He was your boyfriend and the love of your life, and you just wanted him back, but not with black eyes and a dark heart.

Your hair stuck to your face after you began to sweat. You ran your hands over your face and paced around the room for a second and tried to catch your breath, but all you could think about was his onyx black eyes.

You decided to get a glass of milk before going back to bed this time. You opened your door and walked to the kitchen, but you stopped in your tracks when you found Sam standing in the middle of the hallway, facing the other end of the hallway. His hands were in fists and his feet were hard against the floor. You didn't know what he was looking at, but whatever it was, it couldn't have been good.

"Sam?" You called out, "Sam, what's wrong?"

Sam didn't say anything. You walked over to him and looked at what he was staring at, and you couldn't believe it.

"Dean?" You gasped.

You never thought he'd be here. He looked like...Dean. He stood tall with his simian shoulders and granite jaw. He looked at you like he used to look at you before; like you were a jewel in a field of coal. His eyes stared at you in awe - his nebulous, Eden green eyes - the eyes you've dreamt of seeing again.

Of course it was Dean is a physical form, but was this the Dean that you fell in love with, or the Dean who died and woke up with no soul?

Dean shook his head slightly and whispered, "Y/N?"

You didn't care. Hell - you weren't even thinking about whether or not that was the real him when you went to run to him. However, Sam grabbed you before you could even take a second step.

"Sam, let me go!" You growled, trying to escape his grasp.

"Y/N, stop!" He warned, "It's not him!"
"Sammy, come on! Of course it's me!"
Dean argued, "Let her go!"

"What, so you can snap her neck?" Sam shook his head, "No way. You're not touching her until I know it's the real you."

"Sam..." You sighed.

"Sam, if I was a demon, I couldn't even get in the bunker." Dean argued.

"Yeah, well there are a lot of things that have happened lately that shouldn't have." Sam said, tightening his grip on you. You didn't try to escape his grasp; you knew he was just trying to protect you.

Dean looked at you and then looked back at his brother, throwing his arms up in the air. "Fine, throw some holy water on me, exorcise me, do whatever you have to do, little brother."

Sam stared at his brother for a second before letting you go and reaching in his jeans pocket and grabbing a small flask of holy water. He lightened the cap and stared at the bottle for a few seconds before throwing the liquid onto his brother.

You waited for the water to burn his skin and make it bubble, but it didn't. His face and his shirt were wet, but nothing happened. It was Dean, it was really Dean.

"He's clean," Sam said with relief.

This time, you ran before anyone could stop you from running into the love of your life's arms. You jumped into his embrace and wrapped your legs around his waist. He held you close against him as you listened to his heart beating - his human heart beating. You softly cried onto his shoulder as you held him close to you.

"Dean," You wept.

"Y/N," He shook his head. "I'm so sorry; I never wanted to leave you. I'm so sorry, baby."

"It's okay, Dean," You looked at him, smiling, "You're here now, nothing else matters."

Dean bit down on his lip. "I love you so much."

You grinned and then kissed him hard on the lips. You never thought you'd hear those words again. You'd never thought you'd be in this very moment in the arms of the person you love the most in this world. You never thought you'd see him again. But now, he's here, and you never wanted to let him go.

That night, you didn't sleep in an empty bed with the thought of Dean haunting your thoughts and killing you inside. You didn't wake up in the middle of the night anymore because you saw Dean in your nightmares.

Now, you only saw him in your dreams, and then again when you woke up in the morning. Now you saw his beautiful, forest green eyes when he stared back at you, not his onyx black eyes you feared the most.
