So Confusing!
~Chapter 55~
"Death~~~. Where'd you go you little mongrel?" I stepped into the hallway that connected my room, the study and Dena's room to the rest of the house. Looking down towards my room and hearing nothing I cautiously walked up to Dena's door. After preparing myself for the worst I loudly knocked on the wooden door. "Dena. Are you in there?"
After hearing no reply I slowly pushed against the door. To my surprise it opened. I peered in and viewed the room the first time in my life. To my left in the far back corner was a single messy bed. Opposite it to my right was a walk in wardrobe and in front of me to the left was a dresser covered in makeup. These three objects were the only things that really stood out. The rest of the room, including the floor and walls, were littered with magical items, books and posters.
"Wrrrf." I heard a muffled cry from by the bed.
"Death?" I crept over carefully to the bed making sure not to step on anything, and crouched down. Peering under the bed.
"Mraaa!" Death leapt out and curled up into a ball at my knees.
"Idiot. It's dangerous in here." I tutted as I scooped him up and quietly but quickly legged it out of the room. Slamming the door behind me. "Let's head back to my room." I said as I carried him over to my room.
I shut the door behind me and sat on my bed silently caressing him behind the ears. Watching happily as his leg vibrated as if it was scratching the air. That thing that all dogs do when you scratch their soft spot.
My ears perked up as I heard a rattling on the window. My hand froze mid scratch as I slowly turned to look at the window. To my dismay and pleasure Ikuto was perched on the window ledge. His ears and tail popped out as he rattled against the window, trying to open it. He noticed me watching him and smiled agitatedly.
'the window is stuck' he mouthed as he pointed at the closed latch. I smiled as I slowly raised my hand showing him my middle finger. Then got up and drew the curtains. As I turned around to go sit back on my bed I bumped against the window and heard a thump as Ikuto fell off. It felt great.
Hoping to avoid Ikuto for the rest of the day I thought it would be a good idea to take Death out for some fresh air. So of course I went down to the Den, dragged Rin into the sunlight and asked him if he'd like to come to town with me for some coffee. Not taking a no for an answer we all set out.
"He literally won't leave me alone!" I continued as I sipped my coffee.
"Mmhmm." Rin continued to stare at me in a daze. Listening to my every word patiently.
"I've taken to checking every window is locked at night just incase he decides to have surprise sex!" I rambled on as Rin spluttered into his coffee.
"Ach...hrm...that definitely sounds like a problem." He managed as he cleared his throat.
"The only reason I agreed to go out with him is because he would've nagged me to death otherwise." Death perked up his ears from where he had been lying obediently next to my feet. Under the shade of the table as he watched the people and cars go by. "Sorry Death not you." I said reassuringly as I patted his head. "I mean he's not even that romantic. We haven't even been on an official date yet!"
"You mean something like now?" Asked Rin.
"Yeah. During our time together in the game, I mean your world. We actually got along together pretty well wouldn't you agree?"
"Although I haven't been in this world that long I've quickly adjusted to it. You were the first girl I'd met that hadn't run away. Us both being equally freaky. And although I'm still getting used to the way you look in reality. You're the exact same kind, tomboyish, courageous and self righteous person you were back then."
"Th-thanks." I said as my cheeks flushed and I quickly looked down at my nearly empty coffee cup.
"Oh and I forgot to mention easily flustered." He said jokily.
"Oy!" I playfully kicked him under the table.
"What I'm trying to say is..." He seemed to be trying to find the right words but then finally settled on. "I think I've fallen in love with you."
I quickly stood up from my chair pushing it backwards. Death jumped into panic mode from suddenly being woken up.
"I-I need to go home. I forgot I left my meatloaf in my locker and my doctor needs it." I stammered as I picked up Deaths lead and placed the wrong amount of money on the table. "Bye Rin. I'll make sure to tell Phoebe not to feed you to the dragons." I swayed off.
God what a bizarre day. Rin just confessed to me and I didn't even answer him! Man I just hope he forgets this whole ordeal. I pulled my beret down further trying to cover my wolf ears. The problem was. I think my hearts already been unwillingly stolen without me even noticing. And it took another guy to confess to me for me to finally realise.
