Chapter XXV-Sam

"Sam!"

Sam jumped out of his chair when he heard Jason call out his name, Dean and the other demigods following behind him.

Sam went out into the hallway and followed Jason's voice throughout the bunker. "Jason? Where are you?"

"In the next hallway." Came the reply.

Sam jogged over to the next corridor and found Jason standing over a trembling Percy, who was curled up into a fetal position, whereas Annabeth was trying to calm her boyfriend down with little results. Sam's eyes widened as he rushed over to the trio. "What happened?"

"I-I don't know," Annabeth shakily replied. "One minute he was fine and the next, h-he's..." she gestured to the incoherent demigod helplessly.

"We were just talking to him," Jason explained, his eyes filled with concern . "We wanted to make sure that Percy was fine after everything, then he started acting weird. He was muttering something about how none of this is real." The blond demigod ran a hand through his hair, taking a deep breath. "I don't know if it was what I said, or..."

Sam focused his attention back to the trembling demigod, who was curling in on himself even more, as if to make himself as small as possible.

He shook his head, as clueless as everyone else. "He was fine before you arrived. Then when you all showed up, he was ecstatic. He was getting better."

Sam looked over to his brother, who was kneeling on the other side of Percy, his face unreadable. He met his gaze and barely tilted his head as if to say, It's your call.

Sam swallowed. He didn't need to ask what Dean had meant. When Sam had returned from Cage, or at least when he got his soul back, he couldn't remember what had happened in the year prior to his release. Then after Cas had broken his wall, he started to hallucinate Lucifer, which almost ended his life if not for Dean. After that, Sam was able to get back into the game, for a little while at least.

But too soon, all of that hard work went downhill after a particular case that reopened, leaving Sam to fight for his life-literally. He soon became sleep deprived, staying up because Lucifer kept waking him up with horrendous nightmares whenever he tried to close his eyes.

Sam almost died that night. But once again, his brother had saved him, bringing Castiel to "shift" the hallucinations onto himself, as a way for penance.

And now, Percy was the one who had to walk in Sam's shoes.

Sam took a deep breath before speaking. "Okay. Let's get him to his room where he could be more comfortable."

He grabbed Percy's arm and hauled him up, Dean gripping the other arm and together, they half-dragged, half-carried the unconscious demigod to his temporary bedroom.

The brother carefully placed him on his bed and everyone gathered around the inert demigod. They could hear whimpers of pain coming from him and it broke Sam's heart. He didn't think that something was wrong with Percy-at least, besides the nightly terrors and whatnot. He didn't know the teen was hallucinating.

Maybe that's because it just started, a part of Sam thought.

But how could they not have known? How could Sam, of all people, not have known?

Sam was furious with himself. He should've seen this coming. Every time that the hero thinks something goes their way, it usually ends up biting them in the ass.

While Sam was thinking this, Dean somehow managed to get the other demigods to leave, with the exception of Annabeth, who quickly got to Percy's side and tried to soothe him with comforting words. But it was futile.

With their luck spiraling straight down to hell, because why not, Percy started to seize.

Sam and Dean immediately jumped into action, pinning down the flailing demigod's limbs.

"Shit," Dean cursed. "This never happened with him before."

Annabeth suddenly appeared by Dean, making the older Winchester jump. "Go get some water." Sam had forgotten that she was even there at all. She was surprisingly calm in this situation.

Sam casted a quick glance at her. "What?"

Annabeth rolled her eyes and grabbed hold of her boyfriend. "Trust me. Go get water."

Dean looked skeptical at her, but he went to retrieve the water anyways.

Sam paid his attention to Percy, who was starting to calm down a little bit. Thankfully, the seizing had stopped and now he was just reduced to shaking violently. It almost looked like he was vibrating. He risked a look at Annabeth, who continued to soothe him, whispering things that Sam couldn't make out.

"You've had experience with this before?" Sam couldn't help but ask, slowly loosening his grip on the demigod.

Annabeth gave him a short nod. "Twice. About a week after his death, Percy randomly had a seizure in his sleep while I was with him. It was...unsettling." She took a deep breath and slowly let it out. "The first time, I wasn't sure what to do, so I took him to the infirmary and woke up some kids from the Apollo cabin. They couldn't find anything wrong with him to make him go into a seizure like that. So, they got a tub of water and placed him in there. It helped him calm down and it was over just as quickly as it started."

"What happened the second time?" Sam asked, his hands now completely off of Percy, but still nearby just in case.

Annabeth sighed, running her hand through Percy's sweaty hair. "We were out by the lake and he fell asleep on my lap. That's when the nightmares started and he started to seize again." She swallowed and Sam could see tears forming in her grey eyes. "I dragged him into the lake, but nothing was happening. So, I dragged him out further, but still, nothing was happening. I seriously thought he was going to die again." Annabeth cleared her throat and shook her head. "So, I decided to sit in the lake and try to comfort him the best I could. Then finally, he woke up." She laughed humorously. "That Seaweed Brain tried to scare the crap out of me."

Just then, Dean came back. His sleeves were rolled and his hands were dripping with water. "I got the bathtub filled with water. I figured that would be better than trying to use up all the water bottles on Nemo."

Annabeth nodded. "That's perfect." She turned to Sam, her thunderous grey eyes filling up with determination. "Help me lift him."

Sam didn't need to be told twice. Together, he and Annabeth got a hold on Percy and dragged him to the bathroom where the filled tub was already waiting.

Carefully, Sam stripped Percy down to his boxers and, with Dean's help, gently placed him in the water.

Annabeth sat on the edge of the tub and rubbed Percy's arm comfortably. "Come back to me, Seaweed Brain," she whispered sadly.

After what seemed like years, Percy's shaking finally began to slow down, yet he was still out.

Sam breathed out a sigh of relief. He got worried there for a moment, thinking that Percy wouldn't be able to come back. But somehow, he did.

"He's a fighter," Dean softly said. Sam let himself huff out a quiet chuckle.

Even though her hair covered her face, Sam could tell that she was smiling, albeit it was a small one. "Yeah, he is."

Soon enough, the three of them got Percy out of the tub and dried him off. Then the brothers carried him back to his bed where Annabeth got out Percy's sleepshirt and sweatpants that Dean had let him borrow not so long ago.

Sam smiled slightly at how the young teen was stunned as Dean threw him his pants. He also remembered how Percy thanked them for everything, which no one has ever done. It seemed so long ago now, despite it being a full week since they teamed up.

But alas, good things were never made to last.

Once Percy was settled comfortably in his bed, Annabeth tucked him in and sat by his side, stroking his still wet hair.

Without glancing at either of the Winchester brothers, she softly told them, "I can watch over him."

Even though she was Percy's girlfriend, Sam couldn't help but feel uncertain. He knew that he was being silly, but after watching out for the teen ever since they met, it made Sam grow protective of the kid. Kind of like a little brother.

It seemed that Dean felt the same way he did. "I don't know..."

That made Annabeth draw her eyes up to them. "Guys, you've been taking care of him for a while now. Let me do it." Her tone, while still quiet, held no room for an argument.

After a slight tense stare-down, Dean finally obliged and nodded. "Fine. But if he so much as twitches, let us know," he ordered.

Annabeth rolled her eyes, yet nodded, her mouth curling up a little. "Promise."

Dean nodded in return and took Sam by the elbow, sensing that he wanted to stay either way. "C'mon, dude. Let them have time alone." He walked to the door and before leaving, he turned back around and pointed at Annabeth. "And make sure not to have too much fun," he teasingly said.

Annabeth blushed and glared at him.

Dean grinned and left, leaving Sam to make sure that everything was okay, before following his brother out of the room.

***********

Sam found everyone back in the library, quietly thinking to themselves, even Leo, who was hyper-active. And shockingly, Jack was back, his head hung low in guilt.

Piper was the first one to spot the brothers. She got up, grabbing the demigods' attention, then standing as well when they saw the Winchesters come into the library.

"How is he?" Piper asked, walking up to them.

Dean sighed. "He's been better. But he'll be alright."

Everyone seemed to relax at the mention of their friend being alive.

Jack came over to them, his blue eyes filled with worry and nervousness. "What happened exactly?"

Sam helplessly shrugged his shoulders. "We don't exactly know."

"Oh, but I think you do," an unfamiliar voice echoed in the room. Everyone immediately brought out their weapons, getting into a fighting stance.

The voice laughed maniacally. "Now, now. Everyone settle down and we can handle this with a calm approach."

"Like hell we will," Dean growled, his gun aimed around the room. "Show yourself, you bastard."

"That's no way to treat a guest, Dean Winchester," the voice replied angrily. Sam was shocked. Who was this guy and how does he know Dean's name?

"Who are you?" Jason shouted to the voice, his sword prepared to strike at anything.

"Well, well. If it isn't Jason Grace,"  the voice chuckled. "The great and powerful Jason Grace of Rome. Or, at least, you were, before you became a traitor to your own kind and made a home with the Greeks."

"Oh my gods, this guy loves the sound of his own voice," Leo said, a sledgehammer in his hand. "Can you just tell us why you're here?"

"Looks like someone's impatient," the voice mused. "Alright. I'm just here to give you a message."

"Seriously, I've had it with bad guys leaving messages," Piper snarled. "If you don't tell us in the next point five seconds, I will f-"

"Piper McLean, is it?" The voice interrupted. "I've heard many things about you. None of them good."

"Leave her alone!" Sam shouted. "Just tell us the freaking message."

If Sam could see the figure, he was pretty sure they would've rolled their eyes. "Fine. You mortals are no fun. But, to get back on topic..."

For some reason, the lights dimmed in the library, as if whoever the voice belonged to wanted to make things ominous. "I will take everyone you love and your lives will be miserable."

"Is he serious? Are you serious?" Leo asked, looking at everyone else, then back to the ceiling, since no one knew where the voice was coming from.

"Leo," Jack hissed, his stick, sorry staff, raised in a defensive stance. "Shut up."

The voice chuckled again. "Oh, you poor mortals have no clue as to what is about to happen. Everything that you've ever known will be burned to ashes. You will have no way to stop me. Even now, your friend, Perseus Jackson, is dying."

Everyone paused at that. No, that was impossible. Percy was fine, this guy, whoever the hell he is, he's just messing with them.

"Am I though, Sam Winchester?"  The voice asked, like he read his mind. "Are you sure about that?"

"Leave him the hell alone, bitch," Dean shouted angrily. "Before I shoot you in the face."

"But you can't really know that, now can you Sam?"  The voice ignored Dean's threat. "Not unless-"

"I said leave him alone!" Dean crossly ordered.

"But Dean,"  the voice mocked. "You haven't even heard the best part."

"I don't give a flying-" Dean started but he was interrupted by Sam's, "Dude."

"What do you mean by that?" Sam asked the voice harshly. "When you said that Dean hadn't heard the best part. What was that about?"

"I know."  The voice sounded like he was right in front of Sam now. "I know what happened at the hospital. I know everything that you refused to tell your own brother about."

"Sam?" Dean's voice echoed to his ears. "What hell is he talking about?"

"Tell him, Sam,"  the voice mockingly encouraged. "Tell him what went down in the hospital. How you were attacked and that one of those infected people scratched you and how you received the virus and that motivated you to find the cure. Because, after everything you've went through to get the Mark of Cain off your brother, you wanted to make it up to him, but you couldn't even do that, can you? Pathetic."

No one breathed a single word for a moment. But the silence was interrupted by someone's screaming echoing down the corridor.

Percy and Annabeth.

"Ah, looks like my time has come," the voice sounded like he was upset, "I was hoping to play with you all more. Until next time, heroes."

And with that, the lights came back on and the voice was gone.

Sam felt his brother's eyes boring into his skull, but he couldn't think about that right now. Right now, they had to get to Percy.

Everyone ran to the bedroom that Percy was in and what they found left them brokenhearted.

Annabeth was performing CPR on her boyfriend, since there was no water in sight and she didn't have any ambrosia or nectar on her. Tears were streaming down her face, no doubt cursing in Ancient Greek

Jason raced to his friend's side and thankfully pulled out a small square of the godly food and tried to give it to Percy.

"What happened?" Sam asked, as everyone else made their way into the bedroom.

"I-I don't know," Annabeth sobbed. "H-he was fine, but then h-he just st-stopped breathing!"

Piper gently pulled her away as Dean went over to where she had been and took over for the girl. But there was nothing they could do.

Percy was gone.

"Dammit!" Dean punched a wall angrily before stalking away. "How could this happen? He was fine. He's just a kid!"

"I warned you."

Everyone crowded around Percy, making sure that nothing could touch him. The voice was back.

"And now he's mine. And there's nothing you can do to stop me." And with that, the voice left again, leaving everyone in silence, all but Annabeth, who was sobbing her heart out.

"Uh, guys?" Frank's nervous voice piped up after a while. "You really need to see this."

Everyone stared at Frank as he pointed to Percy.

There laying on the bed, was Percy with his eyes opened. But that wasn't what had caught Frank's attention.

Oh no, it was far worse than anyone thought to imagine.

The sea-green eyes that Percy used to have were now replaced with pitch-black, covering even the whites of his eyes.

Percy Jackson was a demon.
