The Kids Are Alright

"What do you mean you don't think it will work, Bobby? It's a demon-dispelling ritual." Sam said into his phone as he looks over his laptop while I sit across from him at a diner. "Well, maybe we got the translation wrong." Sam said as I look through my own laptop for anything. "Look, we can't just let Dean fry in hell while we—...Well, there's got to be something that w—." Sam said just as I hear footsteps.

I look over and see Dean coming over to us and I clear my throat at Sam. "Oh, ah, yeah, no, ah, I..I gotta go. Uh. Okay. Never mind." He said and he hangs up the phone quickly while Dean comes over, looking suspiciously at Sam.

"Hey. Who was that?" Dean asked him. "Ah, I was just ordering pizza." Sam replied, quickly, and I glance up at him with a raised eyebrow. "Dude, you do realize that you're in a restaurant?" Dean said as he looks around. "Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I...just felt like pizza, you know?" Sam replied and he smiles, tight-lipped and reeking of insincerity.

"O-kay, Weirdy Mcweirderton." Dean said and he clears throat as he goes to sit next to me and places an arm around my shoulder.

Suddenly, my phone goes off and I go and pick it up. "Hello?" I answered. "(Y/n)? It's Elijah." The familiar voice said and I look up. "Oh, hey, Elijah! How are you?" I asked him and both boys look over at me, mainly Dean who looked a bit suspiciously. "I'm doing fine...um, you still working your job, right?" He asked me. "Yeah, yeah...everything okay? That spirit come back?" I asked. "No, no. But...I think there is something weird going on here and I think I need your help....again." Elijah said, a bit nervously.

"Okay, you still living in the same house?" I asked him. "No, I live in Cicero, Indiana." He replied. "Oh, big move for ya from Florida." I joked and he chuckles. "Yeah. I'll text you my address. So, I'll see ya later then?" He asked. "Yeah, see ya." I said. "Good, see ya." Elijah said and I hang up my phone and see the boys staring at me.

"What?" I asked them. "Elijah? Who's Elijah?" Dean asked me and I smirked at him. "Why you ask? You jealous?" I asked him. "No, but I'm very curious as to why a random guy has called my girlfriend?" Dean asked and I laugh. "Okay, Dean don't be jealous, it's not a good look on you." I teased and Dean glares while I hear Sam snickering.

"Anyway, I met Elijah when Dad and I were doing a job about a vengeful spirit. As we were doing this job, Elijah and I got close and we dated for awhile but we eventually parted ways. I hadn't heard from him in like years. I was like sixteen when we dated." I explained.

"What did he want?" Sam asked me. "He said he might have a job for me...or us, I should say, where he lives." I replied. "Where does he live?" Dean asked me. "Cicero, Indiana." I said and Dean has a shock look on his face and the color drains from his face.

"What's wrong, Winchester?" I asked him and he swallows. "Nothing. Everything's fine. It's just I knew a girl that lived there about eight years ago." He replied and I raise an eyebrow at him. "Oh, you afraid I'll run into an ex-girlfriend of yours?" I asked him and he swallows a bit. "Maybe." He said and I laugh.

"Dean, don't be nervous...I mean, you're about to met one of my ex-boyfriends, if you're wanting to come with that is. Plus what are the chances I'd meet her?" I said and he shrugs. "You're right. Let's go see what you old boy-toy wants." He said and I roll my eyes.

"Maybe when we finish seeing what Elijah has for us, we could go look her up. Her and I could swap embarrassing stories about you." I said and Dean groans and shakes his head while I laugh then lean up and kiss his cheek.

Later, we pull up to Cicero Pines Motel and Dean stops to let Sam out. "Don't wait up for us, Sammy." Dean said and he starts to drive off as Sam was still pulling his bag out of the car, teasing Sam. "Wait, Dean. Dean, you...Dean! " sam said, annoyed, and I turn to Dean and give him a disapproving look.
"Dean." I said and he sighs then stops as Sam gets the rest of his stuff out. Once he got his stuff out, Dean drives off.

*3rd Person POV*

The couple drives through a suburban development, past houses being newly constructed and a sign for the Morning Hill neighborhood that notes SOLD OUT! "Is this his house?" Dean asked as they pull up to a house. (Y/n) looks out at the address number then at the text Elijah sent. "Yeah, this is the place." She said and they get out of the car and head towards the house.

Dean and (y/n) arrive at Elijah's doorstep, then she ring the doorbell. The door opens to reveal a little curly blonde girl no older than 7 or 8, which comes to a shock to both Dean and (y/n). Both of them begin to wonder did they get the address wrong?

(Y/n) composes herself and starts talking before Dean could. “Hi. Um, does Elijah live here?” She asks. “Yeah. He’s my dad.” The little girl answers. “I'm (y/n). I was friends with your dad in high school. I was wondering if we can talk to him.” (y/n) said. “Really?" The little girl asked and (y/n) nods.
"Dad! You’re friends are here.” The girl calls out to her father. Not a moment later, Elijah, a man with light brown hair and gray eyes, comes in, not noticing (y/n) and Dean's presence as he begins to scold his daughter. “Peyton, what did I say about opening the door to stra—" He started to say but stopped once he saw (y/n).

"(y/n)?” Elijah says, in disbelief.

“Hey, Eli.” (y/n) greets and Elijah stares at her for a moment then turns to his daughter. "Peyton, why don’t you go get ready. I gotta talk to my friends about something” Elijah tells his young daughter. She nods and heads upstairs.

“I didn’t think you’d make it.” Elijah said as he pulls (y/n) into a hug, to which she returns with no hesitation. Dean however couldn’t help but let the feeling of jealousy take over. “You sounded urgent. I had to come see if you were okay.” (Y/n) replied.

Then the sound of someone clearing his throat brought the former couple to attention as they pulled back from their embrace and (y/n) turns to Dean, who gives her a look. “Oh, Elijah. This is Dean Winchester.” she introduced. “Her boyfriend.” Dean added as the two men shake hands, his grip being firm.

"Hey." Elijah said then he turns to (y/n). "Where's your dad? Did he retire?" He asked and (y/n) bites her lips and looks down. "He actually died almost three years ago." She replied and Elijah has a look of shock on his face. "Oh, (y/n), I'm so sorry." Elijah said, apologetically. "It's okay." (Y/n) said and he nods, slightly.

"So, what did you call me for?" She asked him. "Well, it could be nothing, but I think there's something going on around this neighborhood." Elijah said. "Like what?" Dean asked him. "Well, a friend of mine died a few days ago in really bizarre way." Elijah said.

"How bizzare?" (Y/n) asked him. "Well, he somehow landed on a handsaw." Elijah replied. "Don't you think he could've just tripped and fall on the saw?" Dean asked him. "No, no. He was very careful. Plus, I noticed there were other men on this area that had died in an accidental manner, like his." Elijah said just as they hear footsteps behind him.

"Daddy! We're gonna be late!" Peyton said as she comes up to him and grabs his hand. "Okay, honey. Grab his present and we'll go." Elijah said to her and she runs towards the back and he turns to the couple.

"Sorry, we have a birthday party to go to. You're welcome to join us." Elijah said. "You sure about that?" (Y/n) asked him. "Well, I hate to leave you guys on such short notice, so I think Lisa should be fine with it." Elijah said and Dean's eyes widen about it.

"Lisa? As in Lisa Braeden?" Dean asked him. "Yeah. Why?" Elijah asked him, confused but also shocked Dean knows Lisa, and (y/n) turns to Dean. "Oh, is this the ex-girlfriend you don't want me to meet?" She asked him and he looks down. "Oh, then we'll definitely join you." (Y/n) said and Peyton runs out of the house and Elijah leads the couple to the house.

"So, how old is Peyton?" (Y/n) asked Elijah. "She's seven." He replied. "Wow, someone's getting old." (Y/n) teases as she looks over at the young girl. "I'm not old!" She exclaims and (y/n) chuckles.

"Where's her mother?" Dean asked Elijah. "Um...well, she died last year. Car accident." Elijah said and (y/n) gives a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry, Eli." She said and he nods. "It's okay. Peyton here is my rock. She's helped me though tough times. I'd do anything for her." Elijah said as they approach a house, which was decorated with festive balloons.

Elijah rings the doorbell and the door opens to reveal Lisa, a woman in her late twenties, brunette, and very fit. Lisa smiles once she sees Elijah. "Eli!" She exclaims as they go to hug. "Thanks for coming." She said as she pulls back from the hug. "Of course! Wouldn't miss it. Um, these are my friends...I hope you don't mind that they came..." Elijah said as (y/n) nods at Lisa then she turns and sees Dean, who smiles awkwardly.

She stares at him in confusion for a moment, then recognizes him. "Dean!" She greets and Elijah and (y/n) stare between them. "Lisa. How's it going?" Dean said, a bit awkward. "Wow. So, uh, how long has it been?" Lisa asked. "Eight, going on nine years now. Crazy, right?" Dean said. "Yeah." Lisa said then (y/n) holds her hand out to her.

"Hi, I'm (y/n)." She introduced and Lisa smiled and shakes her hand. "Hi." She said as she looks between the two. "I'm sorry, they came up on such short notice and..." Elijah said but Lisa shakes her head. "No, it's fine. Uh, c'mon in." She said and opens the door wider.

Children were running around in the back yard, which is decorated for a kid's birthday party, as Dean, (y/n) and Elijah follow Lisa while Peyton runs out and squeals out to her friends. "Peyton! Don't run!" Elijah said and she slows down her pacing.

"So, uh, who's the party for?" Dean asked Lisa. "Ben. My son." She replies. "Oh. You have a –" Dean started to say and she nods. "Yep." She said and she gestures across the yard to a young boy, wearing a black jacket and jeans, opening presents. "That's him." She said as the boy opens a gift to reveal a CD.

"Yes! AC/DC rules!" He exclaims and Dean stares at him. "How old –"

"Eight." Lisa replied, answering Dean's unfinished question, then she looks behind her to see her friend behind her. "Oh, guys, could you excuse me a minute?" She asked and Elijah and (y/n) nods at her while Dean still stares at Ben, stunned.

(Y/n) looks at him then raises her hand and waves it in his face. "Dean? Everything okay? Cat got your tongue?" She asked him as he jumps, slightly, then turns to her. "Uh...no...everything is fine....I'm, uh...I'm gonna go grab some cake..." he trails off and he walks away.

"He alright?" Elijah asked her. "I don't know, honestly." (Y/n) said as she stares after Dean.

Dean was looking at the birthday cake, which has a racecar theme, while two women were sitting in lawn chairs, watching him from behind. "Did you hear Lisa call him Dean?" The brunette woman asked her friend, the redhead. "Yeah. Why?" The second woman asked.

"You don't know about Dean? The Dean. Best-night-of-my-life Dean?" The burnette asked her. "No! Tell me." The redheaded exclaims. "Oh, my god, so, they had this crazy, semi-illegal--" the first woman started to say but she cuts off as she sees Dean turns to them, both women gasp.

"Hi." Dean greets them and the women continue to stare at him with a certain lascivious intensity. "Hi." The burnette said. "Hello." The redhead said as she crunches a piece of celery, loudly and somehow suggestively.

Dean looks at them, feeling uncomfortable, when (y/n) comes up to him. "Hey, you okay? You just seem...off." she said as he turns to her. "Yeah, yeah...I'm fine, sweetheart." He replies then he leans down and kisses her, throwing (y/n) off guard a bit before she kiss him back.

As they kiss, the two women let out a noise of disappointment. Once they break the kiss, Dean smiles at her then walks away and (y/n) turns and sees the two women sitting nearby. She gives them a friendly smile then walks off as well.

Dean and (y/n) find Ben watching a bounce-house and eating a piece of cake. "What's up?" Ben asked the two. "What's up with you?" Dean asked him just as a woman and her little girl walk by and Ben checks out the girl while Dean looks at the mom for a moment then over at (y/n), who was raising an eyebrow at him.

Then Dean and Ben each take a bite of cake. "So, it's your birthday." (Y/n) said to Ben, questioning. "Guilty." Ben said. "It's a cool party." Dean said. "Dude, it's so freakin' sweet. And this moon bounce – it's epic." Ben exclaims, excitedly.  "Yeah. It's pretty awesome." Dean said, slightly weirded out.

"You know who else thinks they're awesome? Chicks. It's like hot-chick city out there." Ben said as a couple of girls and Peyton walk over to the bounce house and take off their shoes.

Ben smacks Dean on the chest, bro-to-bro. Dean and (y/n) watch bemusedly as Ben sets his cake down and follows Peyton into the moon bounce. "Look out ladies, here comes trouble!" Ben shouts as he goes into bounce house. "Hey, Ben!" Peyton said, smiling.

Meanwhile, (y/n) starts to put two and two together, as she stares at Ben, then looks over at Dean and raises an eyebrow at Dean. "Dean...is there something you'd like to share with me?" She asked and Dean stands there as he does a mental arithmetic, then darts inside the house, knocking things over as he goes, (y/n) following close behind him.

*(y/n)'s POV*

Dean and I enter the kitchen of Lisa's house as a woman walks past us and heads to her daughter. Lisa and Elijah were standing there, both of them looked worried. "Hey. So, I, uh...met Ben." Dean said while Lisa, distracted, looks at him, nodding absent-mindedly. "Cool kid." Dean said. "Yeah." Lisa said.

"Yeah. ...You know, I couldn't help but notice that, uh, he's turning eight. You and me...you know." Dean said as he gestures between him and her. Elijah and I share a look then I look over at Dean, folding my arms.

Lisa chuckles, as she finally gets what Dean was getting at. "You're not...trying to ask me if he's yours?" Lisa asked him. "No. Nah, of course not." Dean said and we chuckle. "He's not, is he?" Dean asked once we stopped chuckling.

"What?" Lisa asked, startled, slamming the oven door in her surprise and Dean raises his eyebrows. "No." She said, firmly. "Right. Yeah..." Dean mutters then clears throat as he looks outside and I follow his gaze to see him staring at Ben and Peyton playing.
"Katie, sweetheart, we got to go. Okay. Come on." A woman with a little girl as they walk past the kitchen on their way out. "Come on, Katie." She said and they leave.

"Something wrong with your friend?" I asked Lisa, who looks at her worried. "She's been through a lot. Her ex just died in this horrible accident." Lisa said and I look over at Eljiah as he gives me a knowing look.

"Oh, yeah. We just read about that. The, uh, the power saw." I said to her. "Yeah. Guess there's been a lot of bad luck in the neighborhood lately." Lisa said then she turns to Elijah. "Isnt that right, Eli?" She asked and Elijah nods.

"What kind of bad luck?" Dean asked them and they began to go into more detail about it.

"Hello." Sam answers our call as Dean and I sit in the Impala. "Dude, there is a job here." Dean said as he holds the phone up. "Really?" Sam asked. "Yeah. Elijah told us that a friend of his had died from a power saw." I said. "Oh yeah, I think I read that in the paper earlier." Sam replied.

"Well...Turns out there's four more that never even made the paper, all in this...Morning Hill gated community. People falling off of ladders and drowning in their Jacuzzis all over the neighborhood." Dean said. "That is weird." Sam said. "Yeah, something's up. Something these nice, big gates can't protect them from." I said as I look around the neighborhood.
