surgery time with beebo

Bunny sat on the ground with Beebo while he munched on popcorn. The first documentary just ended and Aro half-expected her to leave, instead she turned around with her big doe eyes blinking at him.

Then she asked a question: What year did Chernobyl explode?

"W-What...?" Aro asked, frantically searching his memory. "1988?"

"Master is wrong," Beebo said, eyes lighting up. "1986."

Aro narrowed his eyes at his creation, feeling the competitiveness overtake him. Bunny quickly turned around and he saw that she had her phone open with a list of questions in the notes app.

"Ask me one more question," he demanded, Bunny giving him a thumbs up.

"Memory game!" she yelled enthusiastically when Beebo's eyes turned red. "Uh-oh. Beebo, no. I said memory game, not murder game."

Beebo's eyes turned back to white. Aro told her that his robot was now on fierce, competitive mode. Beebo growled.

"What's the next question?"

"Something easy," she said to him, laying down on the floor. "Where in the world is Chernobyl located?"

"Ukraine," Aro and Beebo chorused. Aro pushed Beebo. Beebo wheeled itself against Jeno's side and pushed, its eyes turning red once more.

"Exact date?"

"Beebo! Beebo knows!" the robot said out loud, a claw in the air and Bunny looked surprised before commenting how Beebo sounded almost human. "April 26, 1986."

"It was a Sunday," Aro interjected. "Did I get it right?"

"Yeah, but one point to Beebo. He got most of the information right."

The following hour was with Aro and Beebo yelling out their names.

"Aro! Aro!"

"Beeeeebooooooo!"

After a long scuffle of Aro tackling his own robot to the ground and Beebo whipping out a can opener, Bunny told them to stop arguing to no avail. The fight ended when Aro threatened to pour water on Beebo to which Bunny cried out: No, Aro! That's so mean!

"Your robot is really advanced, by the way," she told him, Beebo now on her lap. "Do you work on him every night?"

"Every night, every hour I'm free. He converses now and I found a way to retain his memory. Like a conscious in a piece of metal. Come, Beebo. It's time for our check-up."

Beebo went off Bunny's lap and wheeled over to the table, knowing what to do. Its eyes were shifting back and forth between smiling and curved upwards.

"What's happening to Beebo?" she asked, following them. "Why does he look confused?"

"Surgery time," Beebo bleeped. Aro placed Beebo on the table and brought out a tool box.

"Surgery time?" Bunny exclaimed, bewildered. "Are you going to cut him up?"

"I do it every week, just to see if there is anything I need to change. Beebo goes in and out of the basement and sometimes, there are issues. Water or rust. Extra wires that don't work," Aro explained.

Beebo was on the table, laying on its back like a patient. Its claw hands were moving, and legs popped up from where the wheels were. I gasped, pointing at it. Aro said that Beebo didn't like to use his legs because the wheels were more convenient.

He held a screwdriver in his hand when Beebo craned its head around and looked at me. Beebo stretched out a hand.

"Uh..." I mumbled, slowly giving Beebo my hand. Its claw fingers gripped my hand and its legs began to wiggle back and forth. "Is this normal?"

"Yeah, if it's not you it's surgery bear." Aro picked up a bear to show me a stuffed boy that was ripped into shreds. "Beebo tore him up."

My voice rose an octave. "And he wants to hold my hand?"

Beebo let out a robotic laugh. "Okay, just pinky."

Beebo moved its claws, and I slowly just adjusted my grip. Aro began opening Beebo up and Beebo let out a series of ow's.

"Don't be dramatic, Beebo. You have no pain receptors. Not after last time," Aro warned and Beebo quieted down.

I stared at what was happening in front of me, asking: Don't you have to put him to sleep?

"Beebo stay awake. Beebo feel everything," Beebo answered.

"I put so much effort into Beebo, he speaks like a human being. But," Aro snuck me a look. "robots are robots. They are never going to be on the same level as human— Ow! Beebo!"

Beebo had smacked its other arm against Aro. The male looked at me and mouthed 'sensitive' before giving a small shake of his head.

"What did you first put into him?" I asked. Aro smiled. "What?"

"You called it 'him'."

"You also refer to Beebo as a 'he'," I pointed out.

"I put in memories. Just random memories. Mapped it out, programmed it into him. Audio..." Aro's voice trailed and I saw that he had the same look he often had. The 'thinking look'. He continued to work in silence, and I stood there, watching his muscles flex momentarily from time to time. I looked around to see a pull-up machine by the bathroom door.

That must be how Aro exercised. No wonder he was toned for someone who didn't go to gym.

Aro saw where I was looking and he ruffled his hair awkwardly before asking: So... what's your name?

"Bunny," I answered even though it wasn't my real name. I winked at him twice, once from each side. "Why do you ask?"

"Don't want you to feel bored. Jay says I'm boring."

"I agree." My phone buzzed, an unknown number coming up on screen.

D: I'm going to find out where you are.

I bit my lip, placing the phone down quickly with my heart racing.

Aro noticed the change of her expression. She scratched her hairline and then tugged on her pigtails. Did someone send her something?

"Are you worried about something?" he asked.

"No, what is there to be worried about?"

Beebo turned to face her, its scanner emitting from the screen when the robot beeped, "Liar".

"No, Beebo! Not at all!" she cried before turning her attention to him. "It's not nice to have your robot call people liars!"

"He's just programmed to do so if he notices something," Aro pointed out and she pouted. "It's not like it's true, is it?"

She made a face. "Of course not! Besides, Beebo is practically you so it means you're the mean one."

"I'm going to bed," she concluded, carefully pulling her pinky out. "Goodnight, Beebo."

With that, Bunny planted a kiss on the robot's head and walked over to the elevator. Aro was stunned. When she had disappeared, he turned to Beebo.

"If you are me," Aro began, pointing to Beebo, "and I am kind of you..."

Beebo stared at him.

"And she kisses you, does that mean she thought of kissing me?" he asked.

Beebo frowned, its eyes turning downwards. "Beebo is Master, but Master is never going to be Beebo."

"But—"

"No."

"But you heard her—"

"No."

Aro was confused.
