From Beyond the Stars, a Hero!

The Mother of the Lumas gracefully alit on the soft grass planet, barely reaching over the pale blue horizon in her height. Many Lumas followed closely behind her, giving off the little light they had left. But they shined weakly in dim hope. Even her own hope was dulled, though she stood on the gateway to the starry spheres of space.

She proceeded quickly across the small planetoid, watching the occurrences beyond space. She could see through all the darkness of the bright abyss, beyond into the depths of the stars. She had always watched and protected the cosmos since she had left to space with Luma himself. But, as she watched her planet from afar, the whole Mushroom Kingdom had been cast into uproar. Darkness had fallen upon the lands everywhere, just as it had overtaken her own home of light. Looking about into space and glancing occasionally at the planet, she hurried to reach the other side.

But then, as she quickly traversed the green grass, she came upon a young man, clad in red and dark blue. He lay in the dark grass amidst the tall ring of stones at the bottom of the planet. He had fallen unconscious, for he had fallen out of space. She realized that what she had seen earlier was no whim of the stars. Interested, she neared him, taking the Lumas with her as well.

She wondered into such an occurrence. He was the one who had fallen from the castle taken up from the kingdom on Earth by the monster of the dark sky. She had seen something, when her comet was trapped in the dark; a spark of light from beyond the stars when even her own beacon had fallen dark. He had carried the courage to oppose the darkness of the monster that she had encountered. Maybe, that same strength the young man had shown then was his nature. Maybe, that spark of small light was in him.

In hope that he could become the hero of the stars and that, once more she could help keep the cosmos in light and order, she called upon Polari and the lumas. She laughed quietly as they jumped and squealed about her. They gathered around the young man. They were always bright in joy, even when darkness closed in. She nodded to the black star as the others behind her gathered about them.

"Polari," she said softly, with her voice echoing beyond the stars. The little bright star shined as though the lights of space were in his heart, and he jumped happily at his name and nodded. "Polari..., he fell from the skies above Earth...." She paused, looking intently at each of her family. "He fell from darkness, yet into light, onto the Gateway itself. Could he...?" She stopped again, restraining a faint excitement that had just grown inside her. "Could he save the cosmos?"

All of the little Lumas wondered at her statement. Polari was surprised. She was worried for the stars, as she always had been when the skies fell dark. But in this young man, she somehow saw hope. Polari had never seen it in her. He floated up and fell slowly back into his position. He waved his arm up and down as his bright eyes grew wide with fascination and hope. She was almost excited.

"Well, perhaps...,"depicted he confusedly, glancing repeatedly at the young man and at his mother. She saw something, though he could not know what it was, and he trusted the power that his mother had, though he could never understand its extent. He stopped his arm and paused in thought. "Perhaps, he can, if you see something in him.... But we can't yet be sure...."

Suddenly, all the other Lumas floating around those two jumped and shined in the bright blue atmosphere. They all squealed and nodded. Polari and his mother watched the others in surprise as they danced in the bright air. She laughed at them.

"Maybe...," she said to herself. She knew their mind. She knew what they thought. She knew that they too had seen the faint hope that had fallen out of space. "Maybe, whoever this might be, maybe he could."

Finally! Sorry it took so long guys, but I finally finished this part! "Alright!" (#Subtle references. Which I've been making every chapter. "Whim of the stars" | #Subtlereferences| for example. Anyone see that one? It's in the previous chapter too. Maybe not?)

The song is a slowed version of "Rosalina in the Observatory." (Or the main lobby theme...In Super Mario Galaxy. Maybe known also as the Observatory song.) I needed something sad because this was a rather...sad...part.... (Don't kill me! I didn't try to do that...)

But it gets better. (Maybe not for Bowser.... :)

So, I think I'll use "#Subtle references" every time I make a subtle reference to Rosalina or gameplay. And I guess I'll have to explain each #Subtle reference.

Subtle references:

"Whim of the stars" comes from the second installment in the Super Mario Galaxy series. Spoilers here, I suppose. After defeating Bowser, Rosalina visits Starship Mario in the Observatory. During her explanation of... I still question that one... she inevitably mentions the stars. Eventually, "whim of the stars" appears from one of her quotes. (The problem here is that I don't remember the full quote.)

Any reference I forgot to mention? (That's rather likely...actually.... Har har. Maybe intentional....) Comment it if you see some.

"I've been watching you from here." |#Subtle references|

So I know when you read it. And thanks for reading! I hoped you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it. (Which was immensely, knowing that you guys would read it.) Your support is amazing! Thank you all again and forever!
