Super Fly - Chapter 1

If Jacob had any idea how this day was going to go for him he'd most likely have stayed in bed, but since he didn't I get to play with him. He wasn't necessarily a bad kid just...well... a little miss guided in my opinion.

Born to privilege he never had to give much thought to the plights of others. Leading to his opinion of himself to be rather inflated. He was justified in that opinion, he was after all a young Adonis but the day I got a plea from Misty Raines I knew what I had to do.

It was the day before Valentine's Day. Who am I??? I am no one of consequence. Most believe I'm a myth long forgotten, however there were days when I was worshiped and people begged for my favor and built temples in my honor but that was a long time ago.

February 13th  - coincidentally Friday the 13th

"Come on, Michael or we'll be late for school!" Misty hollered, as she placed their bagged lunches she made into their school bags.

Michael came down the stairs still slightly bleary eyed but thankfully dressed for school. At least that will be one fight she will not need to have today. She helped him into his coat, zipped it up, adding his hat, scarf and gloves. Michael complained the entire time until she shoved a pop tart into his mouth for breakfast.

They had a four block walk to the bus stop, and they were running behind schedule. If they were too late the bus it would leave without them, and that was not an option. Misty did not have another way to get them to school.

She was practically dragging Michael by his hand but they were getting close to their stop.

"Out of my way, Loser!" Terrance said, shoving hard into Misty as he walked past, which caused her to knock into Michael and he fell into a snow bank.

"What is your problem?" Misty yelled, her anger taking hold. She helped Michael out of the snow, and seen his eyes were filled with tears.

"You. You're my problem freak. You're in my way and I got a bus to catch."

Jacob, who was Terrance's best friend, stood near by. "Come on, Terry or we'll miss the bus!"

Misty looked at her brother and brushed off the snow so his clothes would stay dry. She looked him in the eye and said loud enough to be heard, "You know scientist say the world is made up of proton, neutrons and electrons but they always fall to mention MORONS." She nodded to where the boys stood. Michael chuckled and to her surprise so did Jacob, although it was quickly stifled.

"What are you laughing at?" she fired at him. "You were included in that statement."

Jacob was not use to girls being mad at him. Being the cutest boy in the class, it took him completely by surprise. "What did I do?"

"Nothing," Misty said, to which Jacob shrugged in an "exactly" type manner.

Misty rolled her eyes, "That's your problem. You do nothing."

Jacob looked at Terrance for clarification, he felt like he was missing part of the conversation and was looking for a translation.

"Don't look at me. I never understand anything that comes out of her mouth?"

Satisfied that Michael was okay, Misty took his hand again and starting to walk. She tried to ignore them, but Terrance wouldn't let her pass.

"Get out of my way, idiot. I don't want to miss the bus."

"What did you call me?" Terrance glared at her.

Michael stood slightly behind his older sister. She was the bravest big sister he ever knew. Well... she was the only big sister he had but that didn't make her any less brave. For Terrance terrified him and towered over Misty but she refused to back down, she was a girl on a mission.

"Well, originally I called you a moron and now I'm calling you an idiot. Do you need me to use smaller words so you can understand?"

Terrance nearly snarled at her. "You're so lucky you're a girl."

"Come on, Terry," Jacob said spying the bus already parked at the bus stop a block down the road. A few more minutes and none of them would be getting to school today.

Terrance looked up and saw what Jacob did and the boys took off running and so did Misty and Michael. Only Michael couldn't run that fast and tired quickly. They got to the corner just in time to see the bus pull away and Terrance giving her a mock salute from the window.

"Augh!!!" Misty screamed, kicking up the snow. "By the gods on heaven or earth, why??? What have I ever done to deserve...WHY don't you help me?!!" she demanded. Misty had taken to praying to all deities as she felt she wasn't getting anywhere relying on just one and wished to cover more bases.

"Does this mean I don't have to go to school today?" Michael asked hopeful, he was not a fan of school.

Misty however had a test today in calculus she couldn't miss. They have missed too many days already. Any more and they'd be considered truant and her Mom didn't need to be dealing with that.

Misty sighed. What choice did she have? Suddenly, a car pulled up and the window rolled down. "Hi! Saw you two missed your bus. You need a ride to school?"

It was her neighbor. Misty couldn't believe her luck. "Yes, please! If it's not too much trouble?"

"Jump in," the woman said and Misty thought things were finally looking up, even though Michael looked very disappointed.

Misty caught a glimpse of a pendant the woman wore on a chain around her neck, it looked like a mixture of a flower and snowflake. It was beautiful.

"I like your necklace," Misty said and the woman smiled at her warmly.

"Thank you. You know if you ever need help, you need only ask. You know that now don't you?"

Misty thought it an odd thing to say but nodded. It would be a huge relief to her if she could rely on her neighbor to get them to school when the morning didn't go as planned, which let's face it, was most mornings.

Terrance was still grumbling about the girl on the street. Jacob just tuned him out when he'd seen Simone looking at him from a few seats up. He sat up a little straighter. Simone was undoubtedly the prettiest girl in the class. Jacob was used to getting flirty looks but to get one from Simone... oh yeah... today was going to be a good day.

When their eyes met, she winked at him and he smiled. Yep, a really good day.
