[4] Act Correctly
A/N: The video on top is What Is this Feeling? from WICKED. Goes along pretty nicely with the chapter.
Princess Peach sat in the front of Ms. Birdline's theater 3 class. The princess already had her sparkly pink notebook out, along with her pink feather pen. The junior was ready to take notes.
She had a cheerful mood, which was great for everyone else in the class. Whenever Peach was angry, she seemed to affect the other students.
Not that she didn't mean to, she was just that influential.
"Ah, Peach. My darling, how was your summer?" Ms. Birdline asked as she walked by.
"It was great, Miss B!" Peach said, a smile on her face.
"Good to hear." Miss B grabbed her glitter clipboard and began to take attendance. "Peach, I already know you're here... Pauline?"
Peach froze. Pauline? Pauline's here? She was confused. The girl had claimed that she was moving to a "better school" last year.
Why was the brat still here?
"Here Miss B!~"
Peach slowly turned around and was now face to face with her sworn enemy. The two girls were always competing over things. Especially Mario.
Pauline was too concentrated on doodling to notice Peach staring. Pauline had changed quite a bit. Longer hair, make-up on point, and... other things.
This made Peach even more jealous. She can't take Mario away... Not this time! The princess turned to the front and breathed in, calming herself.
"Alright class, so today we're going to start off with making duet scenes. I will, of course, assign your partner like I always do on the first day."
The class groaned, but Peach didn't. She was a good student. That was, until, Miss B assigned her with Pauline, out of everyone else in the room.
"Miss B, could I be assigned to someone else?" Peach asked quietly.
When hearing that she was assigned with the pink girl, Pauline grunted.
"Girls, it's time that you both mature. You're in eleventh grade now."
"I understand that but-"
"No buts."
"But-"
"Peach." Miss B gave the princess the look.
"Yes ma'am..." Peach looked down, keeping her gaze on her pink feather pen.
Once Miss B was done assigning, the partners met up. Peach folded her arms, refusing to turn around. She was humiliated and upset. Plus, she didn't want to see the brunette's face.
"And you want to run for junior representative?" Pauline asked, raising a brow.
Peach whipped around to look at her anyway. "How'd you know?"
"That was all you talked about at the end of sophomore year, duh."
"Oh, well, yes. I am going to run for representative. Problem?" Peach batted her eyelashes at the brunette.
"Yeah, uh, I don't think you represent me very well."
Peach rolled her eyes. "Ugh, whatever, like if you would be a better representative."
"Yes, I would. That's why I'm running." Pauline emphasized.
The two words hit Peach like a dump truck. Pauline was running for junior representative. Not only did this mean she would be campaigning against her, but she would end up working with her!
Even if one ran and didn't win the position, they'd end up in the council anyway.
"Helloooooo?"
Peach blinked, snapping out of her trance. She looked at Pauline.
"That's... that's just..." The princess sighed shakily. "That's Peachy!"
Pauline stared at her. "Don't... don't ever do that in front of me again."
"Hopefully I won't have to see your face anyway!" She snapped. "Now, let's begin the duet scene..."
Pauline rolled her eyes and tore out a piece of paper for them to write on. "Okay, so we'll scene about two girls fighting over a boy. One girl will win. Obviously I'll be playing her-"
"Number one, I didn't even agree on doing the scene. And number two, Mario will never be your boyfriend," Peach growled.
Pauline looked at Peach. "We'll see about that, Peachy."
"Do not call me that, you whor-"
"How are you two girls working?"
Both girls snapped their attention to Miss B, cheesy smiles on their faces.
"Oh we're working just fine, Miss B!" They said in unison.
Miss B chuckled. "Nice scene you picked, girls." Then she walked away.
Peach frowned and glared at Pauline, who had a sly smile.
"This is going to be a fascinating year~" She sang.
Peach looked her up and down. "Yeah, sure will be."
After practicing the scene and all, the duos were ready to perform.
Miss B had the two enemies go up first since they were both really excellent actresses.
They began the scene, starting off with Pauline walking around, saying how she loved her boyfriend.
Then Peach came in, saying,"Jessica, I just came to tell you that Drake is over with you. He's with me now~"
Pauline, as Jessica, looked at Peach. "Tiffany, you're a liar and you know well enough that he'd never end up with a idiot like you!"
Peach knew that Pauline was truly calling her an idiot, and she responded with,"Well I'm confused as to how he wouldn't want to break up with a whore!"
Pauline gasped, for she hadn't wrote that in the script. "You little b-"
RIIIING! Went the bell.
"We'll continue tomorrow, class." Miss B watched the students leave.
She looked at Peach and Pauline, who were shooting glares back and forth.
Pauline grabbed her bag and walked out the door, flipping her hair.
Peach wanted to yank the hair off that girl so badly, and she would have done it if Miss B hadn't called her.
"Peach, I know you can behave much, much better than that." Miss B said to her softly. "Please, if I have to I'll move one of you to another advanced class."
"Her! Move her, please!"
Miss B sighed. "I'll have to ask Pauline if she's alright with that..."
"Who cares I she's alright with it, just move her."
"Peach, I can't do that. You know that." She looked at the clock. "You're going to be late, I'm sure Birdo's waiting for you."
Peach nodded and left the classroom, angry and once again, humiliated.
•••
"Birdo I swear I'm gonna kill her!" Peach said as the two walked away from the drama classroom.
"Omg, Peach, chiiiill. You're gonna be a-oh-kay." Birdo reassured her. "Pauline is nothing compared to you. Everybody knows that."
Something caught Peach's eye. A certain poster. The princess marched up to it and tore it off the wall, scrunching it up into a ball.
"Girl, what are you doing?!"
Peach threw the paper ball into a recycling bin. "I hate her so much."
"Damn, she's already putting posters up?"
"Yep."
"Yeah, once we get to your place we'll start ideas for your posters. Okay hun?"
"Ahuh..." Peach glanced at her friend. "Okay."
"And you really need to control yourself," Birdo began as she adjusted her bow,"If you keep acting like this, no one is gonna vote for you as representative."
Peach glanced down, pursing her lips. Her bestie was right. She needed to mature and act correctly.
"You're right, Birdo."
"I know."
Peach playfully rolled her eyes, and the two girls headed off to science.
