The Weekend's Events

Ted laid in bed peacefully as he stared at his ceiling fan. It was bound to be a crazy week but he was just happy there was no school tomorrow. TGIF and what not. He had planned to sleep in and enjoy his day off by laying in bed and playing games. Those plans were almost immediately derailed when he got a text from none other than Eve Baldwin.

The Virgin Mary: You have plans tomorrow?

Ted just stared at the message before replying.

Ted: Sleep, sleep, sleep

The Virgin Mary: PERFECT! You're going to the mall with me and Olivia. Meet us there around noon. Night!

Ted stared at his phone. Did she just plan his whole day for him? Well, at least he can sleep in till noon. At least, that's what he thought. Instead Pip woke him up around 10 by sliding from under his bed and gently creasing his face. Ted just slowly turned to face him and say something but Pip reached over and placed a finger to his lips. He then, softly, placed a neatly stacked pile of clothes on his friend before retreating back under the bed.

"Pompadour." He whispered. Just as he appeared, he was gone. Ted laid in bed and tried to process what was going on. "The hell?" Eventually Ted found the strength to pull himself out of bed and got dressed in the outfit Pip had left behind. A simple white shirt, black button-up, some jeans, and a pair of good old vans. Pip was never complicated with his clothes and it showed even more when he picked out Ted's. He gathered his crap and headed out to the mall. After about 30 minutes he arrived at the entrance to find Eve standing there waiting. She was wearing a light blue shirt tucked into a pair of shorts and her hair was braided to the side. She spotted him and waved with a wide smile. Ted simple returned the gesture, minus the smile.

"Glad you can make it. Olivia should be here soon." Almost as if on cue, Olivia appeared. She wore a white sundress with her hair in a bun. Was she also wearing glasses? Ted blushed at the sight. She just couldn't get cuter could she? Did she have a purse? She had a purse. Why did she have a purse? Doesn't matter. She has one.

"Hey there! We were just waiting for you." Eve greeted. Ted had noticed that the two girls had hit it off pretty well. Someone on the outside looking in would've figured they were best friends honestly. "The walk wasn't too long?" He asked. Yes he was slightly concerned. Someone like her walking alone just spelt trouble. Thankfully Olivia just shook her head.

"Ms. Val and dad brought me." She said pointing at a nearby car. The two teens looked back to see Me. Val giving a friendly wave while Mr. Scaleless gave a 'i'm watching you' gesture to Ted. He just gave an awkward wave while Eve didn't seem to notice. "Alright then. Let's do this!" She said as she dragged the two into the large building.

Jim walked around the hospital while he waited patiently for the doctor to give him the ok to pay a visit. He made his way to the cafeteria to grab some food, he was hungry. As he passed the halls he listened to the familiar sounds of beeping and squeaking from the various rooms and corridors. He passed one room in particular with a woman weeping loudly as she was held back from her husband who was flat lining. Doctor's rushed in as they tried desperately to do what they could. Jim simply stood outside of the room as the woman was carried out. Jim simply lowered his head and said a silent prayer before walking away.

He finally made it to the cafeteria where he grabbed some food. Just a ham sandwich and some chips. He washed it all down with a can of Coke before he looked over to see a young man holding his head. He seemed to be tired as he stared blankly at his tray. Jim recognized him as the same man from the weekend before. He was a new father who had just had a baby girl. Jim briefly wondered why he was still at the hospital a week later but decided he most likely didn't want to know the answer. He watched as a doctor found the man and told him something. The man began to cry. Yeah, he definitely didn't want to know the answer.

Jim finished up his food and headed back down the hall towards his destination before he caught a peek of a small child in a room alone. They seemed to be around 10 or maybe younger. Jim's heart sank a bit at the sight of the obviously sick kid. He looked at his wrist. Cancer patient. Looks like he's terminal as well. Poor kid. Jim couldn't do anything so he moved along.

He found himself pushing himself against the wall when three staff members came rushing in with a stretcher which had a woman on it. She looked like she was in great pain and Jim could understand why. She was covered in blood and burns. Her left side was almost completely gone and it seemed like there was glass lodged into her skin. He watched as she was rushed away followed by a man who was denied access to the surgery room. He begged and pleaded for them to let him though but he was denied. "I already lost my daughter! I can't lose her to!" Jim snapped his attention away and quickly left. It wasn't his place. He had to be elsewhere.

He absolutely hated the hospital. So much misery, so much death. So many people who need help, but he could not be the one to give it. As he walked through the large building he wondered why he forces himself to come here every weekend. As he walked into room 536, he saw why. And he smiled.

------------

Ted groaned as he tried to keep up with the two girls. Eve has officially taken Olivia under her wing and was trying to show her all the various stories and was buying her a bunch of clothes. Guess who had to carry everything. Yep. The guy who has one hand bandaged and had just gotten his ass kicked the day before. It could be worse.

"What's that one?" Olivia asked pointing towards Victoria's Secret. Damn, it got worse. Has it turns out, Olivia has never been to a mall before much less with someone who had the money to buy pretty much whatever they damn well pleased. Said person was grinning like an idiot. "Let me show you." Eve offered.

"Nope! Not that one!" Ted said as he pushed Olivia away from the evil influence of Eve. And she claims to love Jesus. Olivia protested a bit, wanting to know the secret, but Eve eventually followed and convinced her it wasn't worth the trouble. They finally got to the food court where Ted was able to rest for the first time in the three hours he had been used as a pack mule. Olivia offered to pay for the food but Eve was already over it. Olivia was internally questioning why she brought a purse to begin with. "This is fun. I like spending time with people. Well, people who aren't Ms. Val and dad." Olivia decides.

Ted raised his head a bit. "About that, what is your relation with Ms. Val? Is she like your aunt or something?" He asked. Eve was also curious. "She's more like a mom I never had. She's really good friends with dad so she's always around." Olivia explained. Since she was younger it had been that way. Ted decided not to dive deeper into the rabbit hole and Eve seemed to accept the answer. Seeing as they were asking questions, Eve decided to ask some of her own.

"So what do you do in your free time?" She asked. Olivia seemed hesitant to answer but finally gave in. "Read or spend time with dad. He really likes puzzles so we do that a lot. Sometimes I help him grade the papers to." Ted was about to bribe her to give him perfect scores but Eve shot that idea down with a glare. Ted lowered his head back down. "What kind of books do you read?" He asked instead. Olivia seemed happier than earlier. "Fantasy mostly. I really like stories about the hero battling against an unbeatable enemy who is defeated by the hero who used the power they had within. It's just so cool!" She said with almost starry eyes and a childlike wonder. Seeing her like this made Ted forget about the pain he was feeling on his entire body. Oh. It's back. Suddenly Eve slammed her hand down on the table.

"We should go to Fantasy Land then! They have things like that everywhere. Kings, Queens, knights, elves, dwarfs, and dragons! Plus their rides are to die for. Let's go!" She suggested, was it a suggestion? Sounded more like a demand. Olivia, sweet innocent Olivia, only looked at her excited. "Yes! That would be so much fun. Going with friends has to be better than going with dad! He can't even go on most rides." She agreed, did she agree? Sounded like she agreed. Ted just slept peacefully not even knowing what was going on. Eve shook him awake and Ted jolted straight up. "Yep! Yeah. I was totally listening." He accidentally agreed. Eve smiled. "So it's settled. Next weekend we'll go to Fantasy Land." She declared.

Olivia cheered a bit by shaking her hands. "Could Jim and Pip come to?" She asked. Eve just turned to Ted who shrugged. "Jim is usually busy on the weekends. Could ask Pip though."

"POMPADOUR!"

The skylight shattered as Pip fell from the heavens themselves and broke the table they were at. He jumped back up and simply gave a thumbs up to Eve before jumping head first over the balcony and to the floor below. When the trio checked, he was gone. "So, was that a yes?" Olivia asked. Ted nodded and walked back over to the bags before picking them up and turning back to the girls. "I think this is a good time to wrap things up." He smiled.
