The Course Is Set

A week had passed since the fight and Ted hasn't had a moment's rest since. Between his dad scolding him and Oscar for the fight to dodging William at school and even trying to keep his head down as to not be noticed by any other Demons. Classes seemed to pass by in a blur and honestly he didn't even feel like he was learning anything anymore. The only thing he could remember from class was occasionally looking over to find Olivia looking at him before quickly shoving her face back into her book.

'Didn't we get over this?' Ted thought to himself. He wondered this because honestly it was like nothing had changed with her in the past week. She would sit a bit closer at lunch but that was about it. She still followed him around like a lost puppy. You know it's bad when even Pip starts to question it but honestly Ted didn't even have an answer. He even took to eating lunch on the roof with Pip and Jim just to take a break from the attention he was getting.

His hand was getting better from the fight as well. Lilith scolded him for pulling such a stunt but Ted didn't regret it. He looked cool and he won. That's all that mattered. Well, it did hurt but that's not the point.

"Ted?"

"Yes Eve?"

"I think Mr. Scaleless is staring at you again."

Ted looked up and sure enough, Mr. Scaleless was on the other side of his desk glaring at the boy with murderous intent. He lifted up a small chalkboard with the words 'Don't Touch My Daughter' on it. He then lowered it before lifting up a second board with the words 'Or Else...'.

"Eve?"

"Yes Ted?"

"I think you're right."

Lunch finally came along and Ted tried his best to hurry to the roof before anyone could stop him. Unfortunately everyone seemed to be looking for him. First was Ms. Val who wanted to ask him about Jim. Ted simply covered for his friend, claiming he was on time for school even though he was late by two hours, and tried to escape the conversation before Ms. Val stopped him once more.

"What happened to your hand?" She asked pointing to the still wrapped hand. Ted internally panicked before thinking of an excuse. "Smashed my hand with my locker door." He lied. Ms. Val seemed content with the answer and allowed him to leave which gave Ted a chance to make a b-line to the stairs before he was stopped by William.

"I just want to eat." Ted complained.

William grabbed his arm and dragged him away from the hall and into an empty classroom. This gain a few suspicious looks from other students but William didn't seem to care. Once he closed the door, Will turned to Ted.

"Explain yourself. Now." He demanded.

Ted gave him a questioning look obviously confused. What did he have to explain. If Ms. Val didn't know he was in the fight, why would Will? Then again William was very serious about his job. Very serious. He once gave a senior detention just for falling asleep in class.

"What do you want me to explain?" Ted just asked unamused. William rolled his eyes and smacked Ted's head in annoyance. Ted rubbed his head a bit. "Olivia. I told you to stay away!" This again? Ted figured William was over this by now but he just didn't care anymore. Yeah it was creepy with her following him around but she seemed nice enough. What did he even have against her?

"Right. About that, I don't care. I hang out with whoever the hell I want. Who said you can tell me otherwise?" Ted said fed up. William grabbed his head in frustration. "I'm trying to help you! She's a social outcast and pretty soon, you will be to. I mean, Jim is bad enough and you're bffs or whatever with Pip who is clearly not all there. Don't get me started with the chaos sisters! Oh! And your adoptive siblings are in a world of their own so there's that. Let's not forget your relationship with Eve. It seems like you're just racking up reasons for people to avoid you."

Ted sighed and began to head to the door. "I don't even see what you have against Olivia. She's harmless."

"Harmless people don't kill other people Yelawolf."

This caused Ted to stop dead in his tracks. His eyes widen and his vision began to blur a bit. His hand, which was reaching for the door, was shaking slightly. Was it anger or fear? He didn't know. "What did you say?" His voice was shaky and uncertain. He misheard it right? He had to. How could someone like her be responsible for someone's death?

"3 years ago, she killed a man. Stabbed him 26 times. They sent her to that Tonelli Asylum." William revealed.

Ted slowly placed his hand on the door handle before turning back to William.

"So what?"

He opened the door and made his way out leaving William standing in the empty room shaking his head. Ted walked faster just so he could finally get to the roof but once again, he was stopped. This time it was by Eve who simply grabbed his arm and dragged him into yet another empty classroom. Once again, everyone was watching. She closed the door and looked around as if making sure no one was looking. Ted, meanwhile, was trying to figure out why God hated him.

"We're alone. Good." He had heard her mumble. Oh god. He was going to get raped by Jesus girl. He was just joking about god hating him but turns out, he actually does. He jumped a bit when she turned to him and began to march over. He just slowly lifted his hands up to defend himself. "Please don't rape me." He let out.

Eve stopped dead in her tracks and gave him a muddled look. Not a "what did you say?" kind of look but a "did you really just say that?" kind of look. She seemed slightly offended.

"Rape you? Really? You're twice my size how would I even be able to rape you?" She questioned crossing her arms. Ted gave it some thought and shrugged. "No clue honestly I just got scared. You did just drag me into an empty room and checked around to make sure no one was here. This is either rape or you need to ask me something you can't ask anyone else." Then a thought crossed his mind. "Or, you're confessing your undying love for me?!" He asked pointing at her accusingly.

Ted could see the blush spread across her face before he saw the eye twitch. Guess he was wrong. Man he is just butchering this entire thing.

"I'm here to talk to you about Mr. Scaleless and his daughter." She said through her teeth. Well, here we go again. Ted just rolled his eyes and leaned back against the wall ready for another lecture. "I don't think you should avoid her."

Ted stood back up straight with a confused look on his face. "What now?"

"I think you shouldn't avoid her. Spend time with her. From what I understand, you're probably her only friend. I know that's why William dragged you into the class as well." She explained.

Ted just shrugged. "Ok then. I'll, not avoid her. I mean it's not like I can even if I wanted to. She follows me everywhere. As a matter of fact..." Ted opened the door to find Olivia standing there looking like she was about to knock. "There she is." Ted announced before pulling her inside and closing the door once more. She seemed extremely nervous to be in the same room with Eve. Or maybe it was the fact that Ted touched her. Honestly Ted just didn't care.

"So Olivia, you want to meet some new people?" Ted asked.

Olivia let the thought run through her head. She looked down at her feet and considered the offer. Finally she looked to Ted and nodded. Ted gave a soft smile and directed her attention to Eve.

"This is Eve Baldwin. She has chemistry the same hour I do." He introduced. Eve gave a small wave before walking over to Olivia and held her hand out. "Hello. It's nice to formally meet you." She greeted with a wide smile. Olivia hesitated a moment before looking to Ted who nodded. She turned back to Eve and shook her hand slowly.

"H-hello. I'm Olivia."

--------

Jim and Pip looked at the three underclassmen before them. Ted had introduced them to both Olivia and Eve and they were now sitting on the roof enjoying lunch. By that I mean Ted was giving his food to Olivia who was protesting, saying things like he needed it so he wouldn't starve, while Eve was quietly watching the two as she ate, finally enjoying her freedom from her "fan club". Jim and Pip were just trying to figure out what was going on.

"So, uh, is this going to be a normal thing from now on?" Jim asked.

Ted shrugged as he checked his phone. "To be decided." He said without looking up. Oscar sent him a picture of William. It seemed as though he was looking for someone in the lunchroom. Most likely Ted.

"Just Oscar." Ted mumbled as he tucked his phone away.

"How is he healing after the events of last week?" Pip asked munching on a sandwich. Ted just shrugged as he looked at his own hand. "Pretty well I guess. At least as well as one can after getting hit with a sledgehammer." This caught Olivia's attention.

"Is that what happened to you?!" She asked reaching for his hand. She looked it over as Jim and Pip turned to Ted with suggestive looks. Ted gently yanked his hand away and stuffed it into his pocket. "No, I was just an idiot." He admitted sheepishly. Eve nodded.

"I saw the whole thing. Did you really think punching that guy with a firework was a good idea?" She questioned. Jim finished his food and pulled out his pack of cigarettes. "Has there been other Demons lately? Surely they'll be coming for you." He asked as he lit the white stick of death. Ted just shook his head.

Thankfully no other Demon has tried to fight him. He figured it was only a matter of time. There were times he would be walking in the hall when he would notice glares directed towards him. Not the usual jealous kind either. He figured they were part of this Demon Gang but they never approached him so he didn't bother with them.

"I'm just enjoying the peace while I can. If any other Demon wants me they can come get me." He decided as he laid back with his his hands behind his head.

"Very well then. Here I am."

Everyone jumped at the new voice. The boys stood up when they spotted a large boy standing in the doorway. "Who are you sir?" Pip asked. The older boy just grinned. He began to walk over to where they were only to stop a few feet away. Jim's eyes grew wide. "No way. You're Leon Airsmith. The Thundering Bull."

The boy was of a large build. Easily taller than the three of them by a whole foot. He had the build of a bodybuilder which seemed to block the sun. His hair was cut into a buzz cut and his green eyes seemed to pierce into Ted's head. He was grinning the whole time. "So, you're Theodore I presume?"

Ted clenched his fist. "I am. You a Demon?" He asked. The boy's smile grew wider. "I am." Ted didn't have time to react before the large boy slammed his fist into his gut. The pure strength alone brought Ted up enough for the boy to throw another hit to his face which sent him flying away.

"Ted!"

"Friend Theo!"

Ted landed a few feet away completely dazed. He tried to process what had just happened as he tried to pick himself back up. He looked over to see the large boy still standing there, grinning. Jim and Pip moved to block the path from Ted to this new opponent but the boy just shook his head.

"I see. You're not so tough after all. After all the hype I figured you'd put up a better fight." As he finished his statement, the boy turned away and began to leave. He gave a wave without looking back. "Til next time I suppose." And he was gone.

Eve and Olivia immediately rushed over to Ted who had just spit up a bit of blood. Both Jim and Pip stayed where they were to make sure the Bull didn't return but joined their friend after a while. Eve helped sit him up as he clenched his stomach in pain. It felt as if he was hit by a truck carrying a tractor. He could take a hit but this was definitely something unordinary.

"Who was that guy?" Eve asked. Jim shook his head. "Leon Airsmith. The Raging Bull around school. Star linebacker and member of the Demons." He explained. He leaned down and asked Ted to lift his shirt. He did as instructed as both Olivia and Eve looked away. Jim and Pip cringed at the already bruising mark on the younger boy's rib. His face wasn't much better. His cheek was painfully red with a light shade of purple already showing. Ted just rubbed his cheek gently.

"I think he broke something."

---------

Ted sat in the nurse's office as said nurse wrapped the wound on his body. His cheek had a patch held by two strips. Both Pip and Eve, who had returned to class to keep her "perfect record", had escorted him here which had earned a glance from the famous Dr. Feel-good. Her name wasn't actually Feel-good but that's not important right now. All that mattered was that she was the best of the best.

"So, you and Baldwin's daughter. What's going on with that?" She asked suddenly. Even Pip looked back from where he was standing. Ted just rolled his eyes. "Nothing. She's just, a classmate who was around." He explained. Dr. Feel-good just gave a 'yeah whatever' before finishing up on her wrapping. Ted admired her handiwork before reaching for his undershirt.

"So remind me what happened? I need to write the report." Feel-good asked. Ted looked to Pip who began to recount the events. "We were on the roof enjoying a splendid lunch when a massive boy attacked my friend here." He smiled. Dr. Feel-good just gave an unamused look before writing on her clipboard. "So you fell down the stairs. Alright you're good to go. Get out."

The boys did as they were told. Ted just opted to carry the uniform blazer over his shoulder while Pip walked alongside him happily. "Olivia was nice. So was that Eve girl. Seems like you've made some great companions." He decided. Ted nodded in agreement. Yeah Eve could get on his nerves with the whole "befriending the hell outta him" and he entire fan club hating him but she was still enjoyable to hang around. And then there's Olivia who was from a different planet altogether. He had confirmed that he was indeed her first actual friend and that only made him want to protect her even more. It was odd to him. He never really had an urge to protect anyone but his family.

Meanwhile Olivia was in her father's class, his "free" period he called it, as she looked at her phone. She had gotten Eve's, Ted's, Jim's, and Pip's number. She had made three friends in one day. She was definitely happy. Happy enough to cry but she kept it in as to not worry her father. Then again, she was worried for Ted. She had no idea what was going on or why that boy attacked him. She placed the small device down and returned to her book before her father wheeled his way to her. She lowered the book and smiled at him.

"Hello my dear. Sorry I'm so busy. How was your day?" He asked. Olivia beamed as she recalled in her head the events of the day frowning only at the attack. "It was wonderful! I met three new friends today! And Ted invited me to join him at lunch. It was so cool to hang out with other people." She decided to leave out the attack for obvious reasons. Her father, however, was thinking to himself. He had noticed that she has been happier since that devil of a child befriended her. He had truly hoped she wasn't simply blindsided by the fact that she had a friend. No. She was smarter than that.

"That's lovely to hear. Who are your new friends?" He asked curiously.

"Eve, Pip, and Jim." She listed. She knew that Pip and Jim weren't their real names but she somehow felt closer to them by using their nicknames instead. Her father simply nodded. Pip was a good boy, granted he was rather odd, but good hearted nonetheless. Eve was a star student and a model citizen so he didn't worry too much about her. Jim, on the other hand, was a slight concern. The delinquent had always excelled in his class but outside of science he turned to stir a bit of controversy everywhere he went. His daughter had indeed made quite a group of friends to say the least.

His mind drifted back to her first. Theodore Yelawolf. He knew the boy wasn't actually much trouble, just didn't care about much, including his education. He seemed respectful but besides that, he knew little to nothing about him. Being a freshman, he had no prior experience with the boy. With Eve at least everyone knew of her well behaved behavior and knack for giving it her all. With Ted, he only had his siblings to go off of. Josephine simply existed and Oscar was, well, a child trapped in an teen's body. Theodore most definitely didn't seem to act like either of them so it was very difficult to get a good read on him.

Then again, his daughter was happy. That's all that mattered. He wasn't going to leave the poor boy alone of course but he'll accept the friendship for now. He just hopes that they would not become too close.

--------

"You got beat by the Raging Bull?"

The three adoptive siblings were sitting at the table waiting for dinner to be done. Oscar had asked if the rumors were truth which Ted had just confirmed. Jose just played with her fork unamused like always. The pain had died down a bit but Ted knew he was going to feel it in the morning.

"POMPADOUR!"

Pip body slammed the table before rolling off. The three teens looked up to see where he came from but only saw the roof. Oscar looked to his brother who just shrugged. "Better to just not question him." He explained.

Pip popped back up and took a seat next to his best friend who had just noticed an extra plate set. Ketter must've set it.

"Alright kiddos, food's ready."

Ketter walked to the table holding two large plates and began to set the food in front of his kids. Before long they were all sitting around and eating dinner like a normal family. Plus Pip. Pip was there.

"So kids, how was your day today." Ketter asked.

"Sucked."

"Boring."

"Got beat up."

"Splendid!"

Ketter just kept eating.

"Good to hear."

It was clear he was lacking sleep with the dark marks under his eyes. He had medium hair that he had managed to keep out of his face and a 5 o'clock shadow. Many people had claimed he looked like some famous action movie star but his kids didn't see it. Suddenly his head snapped up as he dropped his fork.

"Did you just say you got beat up?" He asked suddenly concerned. Ted just nodded as Pip explained the events of the day. After he had finished Ketter just rubbed his temples. "You kids will lead me to an early grave. Between you four and my job, I'll be lucky to see 60."

Ted nodded in agreement. "Don't forget the heavy drinking." Jose added. Ketter just shot her a look and sighed. "So is this just something that's going to happen often? Demons going after you?" He asked.

"Most certainly!" Pip answered.

Ketter just raised his hands. "You got yourself into this mess. I ain't helping you get out of it. Time to be a man and fix your own problems. If you need help, ask your siblings or friends or something." Oscar nodded in agreement as did Pip.

"Thanks. I'll remember to do that." Ted said as he finished off his first plate.
